PLAYER PROFILE — STEPHEN LEE
Many people in the snooker and pool world will already recognise the name Stephen Lee from his years playing professional snooker.
Away from the table, my own dealings with Stephen Lee took a very different direction.
Around 15 months ago, we discussed doing business together. The idea was fairly straightforward — purchasing and importing pool cues, cue cases and other equipment from China, with the products intended to form part of a new retail venture I was planning.
As part of that arrangement, I handed money over in advance towards the goods. Thankfully, it represented only a relatively small portion of the overall venture, although we’re still talking over hundreds of pounds of my money.
The problem is that, 15 months later, I say I have received none of the goods I paid for and no refund, except for “go do one”.
What began as something I genuinely thought could become a good working relationship therefore ended very differently from what I expected.
Since speaking publicly about my experience, I’ve also received support and messages from other people who say they’ve experienced similar problems in their own dealings. The accounts shared with me vary — from somebody saying they were waiting for a single cue case, through to others describing orders involving multiple cues and other equipment.
Those are their experiences and allegations, not something I’m presenting as independently established fact, but hearing from others has certainly made me realise that my experience isn’t something I’m alone in raising.
This isn’t intended to rewrite anyone’s snooker career or ability on a table. It’s simply an account of my own business dealings and experience and why I’ve been disappointed with how the proposed venture turned out.
If the situation is eventually resolved, I’ll be equally happy to update this account to say so. Likewise, should Mr Lee wish to provide his perspective or respond to my account, I’m willing to hear it.

Following his conviction today (24 August 2026) at the High Court in Glasgow, for two charges of lewd and libidinous behaviour that relate to historic sexual abuse, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has permanently revoked Dott’s WPBSA Membership with immediate effect.

This is following an emergency board meeting held earlier today where the board unanimously agreed to this course of action and that he should be removed from the sport.

The WPBSA has also written to World Snooker Tour (WST) to request his immediate removal from the WST Hall of Fame.

Dott was previously suspended from all professional snooker activities on 9 April 2025 pending the outcome of his trial, immediately after the WPBSA became aware of the ongoing legal proceedings.

He was subsequently relegated from the professional ranking list at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.

Under the WPBSA constitution, Dott retains the right to appeal this decision within 21 days.

24.2 Provided always that the power is exercised bona fide for the benefit of the WPBSA as a whole and shall be capable of application without discrimination to all Members, it shall be lawful for the Board to pass a resolution at a meeting thereof (of which due notice including notice of the intention to propose such resolution shall have been given) that any Member shall cease to be a Member and if such resolution is passed by not less than two-thirds of the Directors present and voting, then such resolution shall take effect as from the conclusion of such meeting or from such later date as such resolution may prescribe for the purpose and the company secretary shall send notice to the Member so expelled immediately following conclusion of that meeting informing the relevant Member of the resolution of the Board.

24.3 Any Member expelled in accordance with the provisions of Article 24.2 may give a notice of appeal to the company secretary within 21 days of the passing of such resolution whereupon the company secretary shall, as soon as reasonably practicable, convene a general meeting at which the expelled Member’s appeal shall be considered and such expulsion shall be upheld only if approved by a Special Resolution of the Voting Members. Such expelled Member shall be entitled to attend and speak at the general meeting but shall not be entitled to vote. Save as aforesaid the expelled Member shall have no rights as a Member from the date on which the resolution under Article 24.2 takes effect unless his appeal is successful at a general meeting, in which case his rights as a Member will resume from the conclusion of such meeting.

24.5 Immediately upon cessation of membership of the WPBSA in accordance with this Article 24, such Member shall no longer be entitled to the privileges and benefits of membership of the WPBSA.

Under usual rules you can strike the CB normally - the two balls leave the cue simultaneously, separating as they go, so no prolonged or double contact.

You can always set the rules to current regs instead of TE or whatever the jurisdiction in use.

bookies have him tied 4th favorite along with big kaci (6 players above) but he's in better form than kaci. capito doesn't have a big power break though, and these last events have favored big breakers

I don't think his opponents did that. That's entirely on him. I won't give them that much credit. I'd need to see more evidence during a longer period of time to hop on that train of thought. Filler is not really one to let his opponents throw him off his game, never been that way. Whatever is going on is internal I presume. Players are still in grave danger going against his "B" game.

filler won the qatar open sick as a dog, his "b" game is great. but he has been fiddling with his stroke and even asked darren about it, which is comical (and darren told him as much), if you watch him there are more pre-strokes than there used to be.

Not the best player, but he was, at times, along with Alex, the guy to beat for the DCC all-around, so I can see where you are coming from. His skills were legendary, and nobody questions that.

Of course, that was not the contention of the poster that raised this topic, who claimed that Dennis was clearly the best player in the world for years., neither suggesting nor meaning that all-around play was to be the measure, nor suggesting that those years were non-consecutive.

I was a big fan of Dennis, but his resume of major titles is very light compared to some of his greatest contemporaries, especially Shane, Darren and Alex. The others were winning US Open 9ball events and World championships with Dennis found in virtually every field over which each prevailed. Dennis never won these.

Darren Appleton, one of Dennis' greatest rivals, won the World Championship at 9ball, 10ball, English 8ball and Heyball. Add that to his WPA World Team Championship and two US Open 9ball titles and you've got a mind-blowing all-around player, one whose resume tops that of Dennis even in all-around play.

Dennis was also never Billiards Digest Player of the Year, so at no point was he considered the best player in the world by the most important voice in the Billiards media.

I was one of Dennis' biggest fans, but if he was intermittently the best all-around player, he was certainly not worthy of being called the world's best pool player at any point of his career. Nonetheless, his legacy as a superstar of the highest order is safe.

Left puts transferred right spin on the OB to turn the bank and draw prevents the CB from following and interfering with the bank. Maybe jack up to avoid cue interference.
