So it is a big problem if only one guy gets screwed, but not a problem at all if a bunch of guys get screwed?
In case of "one guy", that guy won many games and is the only one going home after one defeat (if B-side player wins). In case of "a bunch of guys", it just shows they were not good enough today to qualify for the single elim stage. They had their chance and failed.

But I don't quite get all the talk about various formats here. There are many, and there is a reason all of them were once introduced. It is obvious true double elim is the longest to run, so requires many facilities (in our case, tables) and more time. Single elim is the fastest but at the same time most brutal. Round robin is very cool (remember IPT, round robin to the very end, I loved that) but again has benefits and drawbacks. There is a place for them all.

I need breaking technique in 8-ball as I get older.

Second ball.
If you hit it really good you'll likely make a ball.
If you hit it ok to crappy, you'll likely not make anything and leave a mess.

I did a long term experiment a few years ago in my 8 ball league;
For a whole season (about 125 games of 8 ball with me breaking 50% of them)...

1 season I did all head ball breaks and the other all second ball breaks.

My EROs numbers were almost identical (in the 20% range off either my break or a dry opponents break).

BUT my runouts AGAINST (opponent ran out on me) where much higher, like 8 compared with 2, when doing a head ball break.

FWIW, I can hit the pretty hard if I want to.

Wood shafts

I’m still seeing a lot of pros with wood shafts!

I just checked back in on my post and WOW… So many triggered people and rude comments. What the heck people. Where does the anger come from? Geez. It’s disconcerting that there are so many people that forget the saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all”.

Read my post. It was a statement, not a recommendation either way. I’m in a lot of forums and social media pages and it always the same people that feel the need to be aggressive. It’s always insecure men. This is pointed at no one directly, you know who you are.

FYI, Never respond directly to Trolls…. Never punch down.
