Challenge matches from Galveston

Live stream

I've already made my comments about the match and don't see the point in beating a dead horse. I'm sure we will here something from Gabe and Scott sooner or later about their lack of enthusiasm last night. What I really don't understand is the griping about the live stream. :(

Yes, it was poor in the beginning, but has greatly improved, and is free!!!:) How spoiled are we? Hell, I remember when I got all the pool news from the Magazines. Looked forward to getting them out of the mail box each month, even though the results were 3 months old.

We got it made. We have AZB, Tar, Lenny, Big truck and numerous other streamers. We get information about pool and action as its happening. Lets get off the pity pot and enjoy what we have. I thank all you guys that are giving the pool world this entertainment, most of which is free.

I believe that anyone who listened to the Gabe/Tony PPV match knows what I am talking about. If you would post the transcript of that match, I'll show you what I mean. In that way, I won't make an error in quoting your commentary by memory.

I don't see how cussing has to do with whether it's fun or not. As I said, BigTruck's and IPT's streaming (as well as others) are fun, even without the cussing. If not, please tell me how they aren't fun if they don't include swear words.

I'm not talking about children only. Others, even adults, are offended, because I saw them complain on the chats about the cussing, but I never saw where it was addressed by TAR.

If you do not censor your commentators, then that is your right. Let them swear as much as they want. But others do censor that and will have a chance at a much wider audience, in my opinion. I believe sponsors will ultimately gravitate toward those who provide pool streaming that will satisfy the public's taste for professionalism and decency. If cussing and swearing makes it fun, why don't ESPN, IPT, BigTruck, etc., jump on the TAR bandwagon? As far as I can see, the more professional a commentator is, the less swear words he uses. I watch horse racing all the time, and I have never heard them have to entertain the public and make it fun by using cuss words. Just my opinion.

I think you need to understand something. We do not censor our commentators. We do not tell them who to favor or who to root for or that they must show absolutely no emotion whatsoever. They are in the box to be themselves and give their observations on the match.

So please do not say "TAR favored" so and so because that is just not true. We are friends or friendly with almost all of the players who have played in our matches. We want everyone to perform well and walk away win or lose satisfied with the experience of working with us. How long do you think we could do matches if we were biased towards one player or another?

While our commentators do represent TAR to an extent their opinions are their own and we wouldn't want it any other way.

I would like to know what exactly was ridiculous about the coverage? The commentators for much of that match were Scott Frost and Ronnie Wiseman. Scott bet on Gabe and Ronnie bet on Tony and they made no secret of the fact. So please tell me how with opposite sides in the booth how one could be favored over the other?

We are not going to tailor our PPV matches for children. We are not children and most people who are going to pay $25 to watch an action match are not children. We do try to keep it tasteful and I think we do a good job of that but if the odd four letter word finds its way in then so be it. I will bet whatever you like that I can find a 4 minute rap song that your kids have probably heard with more four letter words in it than an 8 hour section of that match.

As far as the DVD it will be released.

We try to make as many people happy as possible but we also understand that try as we might that is probably never going to happen. So we just do what we feel is best and what is the most fun. Because as soon as it stops being fun it stops period.

Just to play devil's advocate here. Do you think there was any possiblity that the production company or powers that be told them to play loose and aggressive. I heard somewhere that this may get put on TV (VS) Maybe they wanted aggressive and wild one-pocket not two guys bunting balls around for 5 hours. Crazy banks, kicks and three railers sell alot better then the wedge.
I did not watch the match, just wondering.:o

I do not believe any of this footage will ever see broadcast on anything other than the internet or possibly DVD release. I am willing to wager on it.

This really has me confused because you make it sound like our streams are cross between a Richard Pryor album and a Chris Rock special and it just isn't true.

Believe it or not we do not transcribe 16 hours worth of commentary but I do have it on tape. If it is that big a deal I will tell you what. When the Oscar Dominguez vs John Morra match is over next week I will restream the whole Gabe vs Tony match for free and we can find out.

I am beginning to think you have some sort of personal stake in this whole thing somewhere. You wouldn't post here under another username would you ?

Ok. I am calling bullsh!t on that one. See that is one cuss word. If I said that 299 more times it would be several hundred and I would just love to hear what stream had 300 cuss words in it. I mean I really like to cuss and when I am on the mic I make a concerted effort to stay as clean as possible and I know Chad does as well. So I would like to know exactly who said 300 cuss words in one of our streams because if you can prove to me that that happened I promise you that person will not be on the mic in the future.

Also as far as that one pocket tournament after the PPV coverage I don't even remember it. Not saying it didnt happen but if it did it must not have been that memorable.

For whatever reason you have a problem with TAR and that is fine. Our stuff is not for everyone and we know that. But please keep your statements about our work at least somewhat realistic.

she is mistaking TAR for a couple free streams i did. i remember her and i booted her for trying to tell me how to speak on a stream i did for free while i ran the tourny without help from anyone. she is terribly mistaken and id hate to see you guys catch a bad rap because of me. excuse me lady if im not pc enough for you while i run the tourny and stream it on my own time.

Justin,

I totally agree. But they may have had that intenet in mind while doing the production. Maybe after slating a one-pocket match scheduled for TV someone told them this match will never look good on TV unless the players go all out every shot, so they tell the players to go all out. If this did happen it would have been the only thing that the promoters listened to from outside influences.

The tournament has hit everyone of the snags that many here pointed out for free. Maybe they thought they knew what they were doing and ignored everyone, but it has backfired. Lack of certainity about this event prevented myself and many other Northeast players from even thinking about a trip. First impressions are everything and I am afraid that a good idea and good people are going down due to lack of execution.:frown:

You are mistaken -- that was not me. How do you know who TulsaRose is and whether I was that person. I have never been booted off nor have I ever watched your tourney.

I think all the streamers out there have been improving in all areas. I know TAR in the beginning might have had some cursing problems from time to time as have I on my own show, it usually has a bit to do with alcohol. Now that we all have sponsors and responsibilities to them we all try to keep it clean and people in or around the booth know and also try to do so.

I am in an open poolroom so I cannot always censor it all out if someone is close to the mic for it to pick stuff up and sometimes I am away from the mic too.

I believe all the people complaining about free coverage from Galveston should get over it, it is better then nothing and we got to see some great matches like Shannon and Efren and glimpses of vintage Cliff Joyner. The match with Shannon and Efren was one of the best races to 3 I have ever seen.

If cussing and swearing makes it fun, why don't ESPN, IPT, BigTruck, etc., jump on the TAR bandwagon?

1. ESPN only has anything to do with pool when they are paid. Period full stop.

2. The IPT is dead. But if it makes you feel any better Deno Andrews has sent out emails to their mailing list about our events.

3. BigTruck does whatever he wants and no offense to him but I don't think he is at quite the same level as ESPN or the IPT and I think he would agree. He does stuff his way and we do stuff ours. 31 Flavors.

You seem to have a real problem with this cussing thing so I guess my only advice is that we are probably not for you.

That is as much a possibility as anything. Frankly not much would surprise me when it comes to the streaming coverage of this event. It has been a comedy of errors.

Well one thing did surprise me....but you can read my blog for that. LOL

So you are basically almost 100% sure that the only reason Gabe and Scott performed the way they did was because they did it intentionally to hurt the fans and the promoters. You have such penetrating insight! There is no chance, in your opinion, that any other factors impinged upon their performance -- like exhaustion, poor table and lighting, schedule, other factors not known by the public, etc., which would account for it. This means that you believe that Gabe and Scott -- who have in the past most always put in a top-notch performance, had, this one time, screwed everyone! Wow! What trust! I don't know Scott very well, but I do know Gabe. And I know that he would not perform this way unless there was a very good reason (whether we know about that reason or not) that he performed the way he did. So I, as well as others, do give them the benefit of the doubt; and I am really amazed at your belief in your inerrant insight and ability to perceive the real cause!

lmao. nobody ever said that they played like they played to intentionally hurt the fans or promoters. Please point to where anyone said that. Everyone simply said that they played like it was a chop or free roll and they didn't shoot how they would shoot in a real match. I even went as far to say that they fulfulled their obligation for the challenge match to the promoters.

However, that doesnt dismiss the fact that they acted disrespectful and unprofessional because they chose to shoot in a flippant, careless manner when everyone was expecting top notch one pocket play which both are accustomed to playing. And, please don't misconstrue this with them having an off day. They didn't have an off day. They chose shots that even amateur one pocket players wouldn't take. I saw Gabe shoot more blatant flyers than I've ever seen in his life over the course of just two games. But you already knew that.

Bravo! I really enjoy working on a TAR match because it is the only place I feel totally uncensored. And I'm not just talking about profanity. On TAR I can say things about a player's demeanor (or even his backer) that would just not be appropriate on a network channel. I can pretty much talk about anything I see that has a bearing on the match. And I do!

If an occasional cuss word comes out so be it. Usually it only happens when a player makes an unGodly shot, and I might say WTF was that! Justin and Chad give me free rein and I like that. I've done some matches on major networks where the director was always in my ear telling me not to say this or remember to say that. And I didn't like it!

One time there was something funny that happened when a player slipped while getting out of his chair. My co-com remarked on how luxurious a chair it was. My response was "I'd sure like to have chairs like that in here." We happened to be sitting on metal folding chairs. The director blasted me on my head set for that remark. My co-com thought it was hilarious.

I wonder if someone had walked up to Scott before the match and said "hey I'm really looking forward to that one pocket instructional dvd you are getting ready to put out" if he would've played differently. how many times have pool players in general shot themselves in the foot by not thinking about the future?

Jay,
did you watch the match last night? If so, what are your thoughts.
Thanks

2 Years ago at the Derby, Efren was in a match with Gabe. Efren needed one ball to win and Gabe needed 5. Efren had a shot to play safe. But he went for a crazy shot that if he missed he left Gabe a potential runout. Efren totally whiffed the shot and Gabe ran out to kick Efren out of the running. Now Efren was gambling with Gabe the nite before giving him 9 to 7. All Efren had to do was to play a simple safe and kick balls up hill. A shot the janitor at our local pool hall could have picked out. But no Efren got wild and lost the match. I looked around and the people were so shocked and in disbelief. THose who had money on Efren were crying "dump". I bring this up because who knows what is on a persons mind when he is in battle. People mess up and things happen. The interesting thing is that we are all human and have flaws. Thats what makes pool so unique. Its a battle against man and his own demons.

We got to stop pointing fingers and crying about ethics and morality. And with the "thats why pool is still in the back room BS". Pool is not in a greater time. With the Asians and Europeans joining in. With the advanced state of technology. I think things are going in the right direction. Sure there are bumps in the road but I think things will smooth itself out because there is worldwide enthusiasm of the game. The players are just begining to understand this. And we as fans have to let them know we want a more serious attitude.

And what is with the sanctimonius idea behind the respected game of one pocket. Two words come to mind.
RONNIE ALLEN! Enough said.
One pocket is a gambling game. Its roots are not in tournament play but in gambling with the likes of Hubert Cokes and Johnny Irish and RA. If youre going to sweat/bet a game do some serious research for your money. Find out the details of a match before you commit to betting. Thats why the racing form is so well studied. I mean I hope no one seriously bet on the Scott Frost/Efren match in Arizona with no money posted by either side.

Pointing fingers does no one good. Tar vs Accustats vs Gabe Owens vs Scott Frost. We as lovers of the game must do our study and research so we can articulate exactly what it is that we want.

Off Topic

When can we buy the Morra PPV ? Should be a great match, unlike the one last night.

Damn, I hope you never let your kids out of the house, in a pool hall, watch TV or do anything in life!!!! Sounds like they would be in complete shock in the real world.

Ronnie Allen also said "Don't you know that dumping and dogging looks the same!" when a backer was giving him alot of heat over a match he lost that the backer suspected he dumped.
