funny or serious, who to pair in the booth?

I'm sure we could get some interesting discussions between Earl and John Barton!
(For anyone who doesn't know, not only did John start Instroke, but he also was a pioneer in the development of the Bungee jump cue)

I've been in the same room with John Barton and Earl breathing the same air. I think if you were to put them both in the booth together you would probably hear two guys that love the game of pool more than anything else that you would expect. JMO.

UJ Puckett

Another thread about UJ's stroke reminded me, wouldn't he have been great in a booth? Everybody's favorite uncle that will skin you out of your eyeteeth and make you smile while he does it!

If he has time to haunt a pool hall he ought to have time to do a little commentary for us. Anybody know a good medium so we can talk to him?

I really enjoyed the streams of the world classic, How ever I think Joey and Danny covering the Frost/Owen match were a little too conservative for those two players. I think that 1P could be a big market game if presented in a creative and risk taking perspective. I don't mean selling out every shot, but i feel like the lack of money to be won in pool has the effect of people perceiving that you have to play conservative and mechanically sound like we have seen from the years of 9 ball on tv. You need personalities and with all the pro's trying to play perfect I think it detracts from that, this is why Efren is popular he has his pump handle loose style just as Frost does. I don't now just a thought. You see great athletes and professionals express themselves in their fields, example Dr. J, Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Tiger Woods and others. They have all mastered the basics but they have had defining moments when a lot of people could argue that there were safer shots in golf or better decisions in basketball, but they made that moment theirs. Thats what I feel draws us to sports, waiting for the unexpected.

Mostly looking for funny pairings but since some would make serious suggestions anyway I'll open the thread to both to begin with. Who to pair up in the broadcast booth at the big pool events?

I think getting a male and female who kinda flirt with each other throughout commentating a match would be funny. Wait, I'm prolly the only one who would think this is funny... :o

excellent point

Scott,

You do have an excellent point but your post is more about players than commentators. In all seriousness you might consider starting a separate thread about needing players with more flash and color. It isn't a new idea but it hasn't been discussed in awhile, or I haven't noticed it being discussed lately.

In spite of record breaking numbers at the Live Stream at THE WORLD CLASSIC,

JoeyA

I am curious what the record for viewers was. Who had it and who tracked it and what the current record is.

Yea i noticed this as a hit submit, To make up for it I would like to see Frost/Deuel in the booth they both have style in their play and are smart.

AZB's own chefjeff + Danny Harriman?

Folks:

I know I mentioned earlier that I think AZB's own JoeyA and the snooker/dart world's Sid Waddell would make a great contrasting pair (post #14 above), but I just thought of another one, albeit this one I'm about to mention might be a powder keg!

How about AZB's own chefjeff, and Danny Harriman? I won't even touch an attempt at what might happen in the booth; just use a little imagination. ;)

Yowza! :D

j/k,
-Sean

This would be good. Maybe like Kevin Costner and Rene Russo in "Tin Cup," or maybe the cop and mystery writer on the TV show, "Castle."

hmmmm, better check the math on any numbers provided -- they'll be coming from the camp that promised thousands of players playing for millions :- o
