Mostly looking for funny pairings but since some would make serious suggestions anyway I'll open the thread to both to begin with. Who to pair up in the broadcast booth at the big pool events?

Nick Varner and Hillbilly were both great in the booth but I had to think that some folks would think they had died and went to hillbilly heaven, or hell, if those two were paired with each other in the booth!

Hillbilly and Roberto Gomez might have been a fun pairing, neither one speaks english.

I'd like to pair Howard Cosell with almost anyone if he wasn't a wee bit dead. I found him so annoying that at first I'd change channels to not have to listen to him. I came to appreciate him and it's a treat to find him on some of the classic sports shows now. Who would we pair him with? Him and Earl in the booth together?

I agree with the post above--- I happen to love funny unless it's a game I don't know super well.

For instance, with Scott Frost and Gabe--- I really enjoyed JoeyA and Danny Harriman's commentary. In 1P or 14.1--- serious/knowledgeable is def better.

Anything rotation or 8-ball, you can't beat smart assed commentating. A good example of this was Tony Chohan and Scott Frost a few years ago at the DCC. They had certain sayings and ways of describing the action that was making me tear-up. That's what I like!

Tony Watson and Scotty Townsend

Roy Steffensen and Darren Appleton

Tony Chohan and Eric Durbin

John Schmidt and Danny Harriman

Kevin Varney and Eddie Wheat

Was watching a bank pool ring game on the tube, Jimmy Mataya and Danny DeLiberto were commentating. Jimmy has some pretty colorful sayings, he talks like a tough from da Bronx. He gives Danny a bit of jazz once in awhile and Danny gives it right back. Good stuff.

Hu if you speak as well as write it would be cool to hear you in the booth with "Humble" Howard Cosell, or better yet how about you and Terry A.:cool:

Sounds like as good a list as any. I was a bit surprised you didn't also have yourself paired this way on your list:

Corvette1340 & Tony Chohan

:thud:

Sid Waddell and JoeyA!

I think Sid Waddell and JoeyA would be a very funny pairing!

You'd have JoeyA's "just the facts, ma'am" flatline style, contrasted with Sid spiraling off into the ethers with his trademarked outlandish analogies.

JoeyA: "Efren pulled a safe on Earl. What would you do here, Sid?"
Sid: "Effie's got 'im locked up tighter than the main reduction gears on the Titanic at the bottom of the Atlantic!"
JoeyA: "So you think Earl should sink or swim, and attempt a two-rail kick on the blue 2-ball?"
Sid: "The Earl's going to kick more vigorously than a donkey with an open bottle of Tabasco inserted in his bum!"
JoeyA: "Ah, I see. So Earl should kick from the 'bottom' rail and use some spicey english to go up-table to contact the two-ball?"
Sid: "But alas, the Earl is about as predictable as a wasp on speed!"
JoeyA: "Yes, Earl definitely has his unique moments."
Sid: "The Earl is twitchin' like a frog in a blender!"
JoeyA: "Earl does seem a bit antsy out there. Do you think it's the temperature in the room?"

...and on and on. Gosh, the possibilities!

Very smart and very informative ...
He would be great with Gabe Owens
They would have all the moves,,,

thanks but . . .

Thanks but at the speed I talk the commentary would be at least three games behind most of the time.

Some funny pairings and some excellent ones I hadn't considered. fatboy and the tooth in the booth could be fun too. On a serious note, Grady, Danny D, Billy I, Blackjack, and a few more I would like to get in the booth with anybody at all.

I just thought of the pairing I want, Joey and Mike Sigel. See if Joey could maintain his good guy image for a long set with Mike in the booth making him crazy!

Great pairings that might be going on in heaven right now: Just think of Smorg and Howard Cosell in a booth or Smorg and Fats! Get Fats in the booth with Howard and Howard would be begging for Ali!

(Add to edit : Hu, you already thought of it) Sorry. lol

I wonder if JoeyA asked Earl? Do you think he did?

I did but unfortunately it was a one pocket match and Earl politely thanked me for asking but declined.

When I did have the opportunity to ask Earl to join me in the booth for some ten ball, he had already left the tournament.

I want Earl in the booth with me for multiple reasons:
To honor him and to allow his fans and detractors to see him in a positive light.

To bring a unique and unpredictable conversation to my booth just as I did with Roberto Gomez. It was a risk but my instincts tell me that it will be worth the risk.

In spite of record breaking numbers at the Live Stream at THE WORLD CLASSIC, I want to improve the number of viewers on FUTURE Live Streams and get more people involved with watching pool live online and Earl could be one stimulus to assist with that goal.

I have some ideas about making this a good experience for Earl and the Internet viewing audience. I would be open to suggestions on how to do accomplish this......

While Buddy Hall wasn't able to make the trip, your previous questions that I requested for him and Efren Reyes were used in the interview sections of the production.
