Joey A's Dinner Donation

To be quite honest I am rather disgusted. I am not saying people do not have the right to ask questions or debate things, this is America but just have some respect for what I was doing. There is a place and time for everything. I know Joey was on here pumping up Galveston just like other posters here pump up something they believe in whether they are paid or not.

I do recall seeing a Galveston banner on this site so they obviously did advertise and paid for it so I would not say they had a free ride via Joey on AZB. I have been feeling rather burned out by trying to do good things on here, the crap I have dealt with doing it almost makes it not worth bothering. I guess I am just young or have a big heart, perhaps I am a bit naive, whatever it is I guess I better smarten up or just ship out.

Joey, I enjoyed your work.

I dont personally care who got paid what or whatever. I am happy to see money being spent in the sport i love and I am happy to see ANYONE promote it regardless fo intentions.

This IS a Pool Forum so does it really matter whether someone was paid to talk well about it or did it on their own?

Not having met Joey I can not say with certainty, but I judge on my own that he is a valuable member to these forums, because he takes the time to post personal experiences and share knoweldge with others.

We need more like him.... We also need more like me (lurkers)... People who read and think on something before typing.

This is a thank you thread, so I am here to do just that, say THANK YOU.

Joey you did a great job commentating. You are very lucky to get paid to do what you love and it seems a lot of people resent that...too bad for them. Thanks for increasing pool awareness and doing your best job!

Joey,

I just want to say that I thought you did an excellent job in the booth. I think you were especially good at bringing out the best of your fellow commentators and kept the commentary flowing.

When Gomez was in the booth in one of the final matches, he saw a difficult three rail safe (the cue ball had to travel all the way around the table) to put the cue ball behind the 10 - and predicted that Warren Kiamco would shoot it. First of all, I didn't even see the safe until he said it - then I thought "no way" - and sure enough Warren shot it. I thought "wow, they must have taken the same safety class in the Phillipines". It was also interesting when you and Gomez spoke of the sports psychologists - something I know should have a larger presence in pool.

You really did a good job bringing out the best of these guys, JJ, Nick Varner, and some of the others. I learn more from hearing them talk then I do from watching the actual game. I thought you and Jeremy Jones were an ideal team. He is so focused on the game on the tables -he doesn't wander off too much.

Anyway, I thought you were very professional and I'm glad to hear you got paid.

Have you had any professional training?

Chris

Chris,
You are very kind and your words are immensely appeciated.

I'm not sure if there are any good schools for pool commentators but when doing my research I did run across this link which is sure to motivate other aspiring commentators:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GoGAkkONPs

On a more serious note: I have done a lot of studying on this subject and have received lots of good advice from members of this forum as well as others inside and outside of the industry. Some other improvements have come from on the job training while other pieces of the puzzle are being put in place as I write this.

My goal is to improve the value of my commentary for each and every event I participate in. The promoters, fans and sponsors deserve no less and those who know me personally, know that I will give my all, each and every time.

Another important goal of mine for the next year is to seek additional pocket billiard commentary duties with televised events both National and International.

Thanks again for your kind and generous support.

Great all round job Joey. One suggestion Id say that you should change your opening line as follows. "This is Joey Aguzin (sp?) or Joey A as im referred to on several internet forums......" "or Joey A as you may know me on a few internet forums..." Something a long those lines would be better IMO.
Saying you were "from" the internet forums just sounds wrong to me.

That is a thoughtful and interesting idea and I will consider that along with any other suggestions that are passed my way.

However, for others who are interested in helping me, please write via PM or regular email as I do not like discussing these type of posts in the Main Forum.

This thread has already taken a couple of different turns but at least this one is for the better.

Sincerely,
JoeyA

Excellent job Joey! Nuff said. Glad you are much bigger than the naysayers. You handle yourself like a real man of integrity. Kudos to you for a job well done.

Good job Joey !

I like your commentary..You was really articulate & liked the way you picked the brains of the more than 1 knowledgeable guest to get them valuable little secrets that could help all our games out...I will buy you dinner next time we are together...naaah...on 2nd thought i'll flip you for dinner..U still up on me $300 from the time i opened up the window when i was staking Slim playing Jamie 1 pocket...thought i forgot huh ? lol..j/k but good job never-the-less whether u got paid a quarter or a quarter million.

This is addressed to both of you equally. You have known each other for many years and you are both very valuable contributors to this forum. Maybe I'm reading more into it than I should but it does seem that you both have let some good natured digs and some real and valid differences of opinion concerning Galveston erode a long friendship between two people who genuinely love the game.

Galveston is a done deal for this year. It was a great event that could have been better. Hopefully next year the things that you two disagreed on and that I moved back and forth on depending on if Taylor Road was releasing information or not will not even be issues. This year Taylor Road overadvertised and underproduced a bit, simply misjudging the number of entries. I very much hope that next year they are a little more conservative in their advertising and have far more entries and a larger purse than advertised.

Regardless of what Taylor Road does or doesn't do, I'm asking that two friends of mine bury the hatchet and give this back and forth a rest. Many onlookers no doubt find it entertaining but are either of you really enjoying it?

Hu

Well, shoot -- if you read Joey's last post, he sure thinks I'm enjoying it.

But in response to your request, I'll let it go. I made my point :-)

Lou Figueroa

For the record, my employer for the Galveston event was Taylor Road Production, not Inside Pool Magazine or JR Calvert.
JoeyA

I have not read every line of every post in this thread so if I missed something or misread something then forgive me. It was a very nice gesture what Lenny did and all those who donated. I think what a lot of people are wondering but not saying is were you told not to mention AZB or did you just assume everyone would automatically think it when you said internet pool forums. Like you said, your business is your business and if you dont want to answer then fine.

I for one would not have watched the Galveston stream if not for AZB because this is the only internet pool forum that I frequent and that goes for a lot of people I bet. If it was not for AZB the Galveston tournament would not have been quit what it was. Im not saying it would not have been great but it drew a lot of attention from this forum. Whether it be from people posting such things as challenge matches before any of the tournament started or people wanting sweat bets afterwards. There were threads started about events that went on and about action matches that were going to take place. For the most part and from what I have read it seemed like a good tournament even if there are changes that need to be made.

I think most of the threads like this could be rationalized a lot sooner if people would get right to the point. Just for the record this is not a jab or insult to anyone.

I have a question - Was JoeyA not allowed to say AZBilliards on the stream since JR Calvert and InsidePool had their hands wrapped around this?

This was the simple question and a simple answer would have lessened this thread by a few pages. JMO

Joey A does not need to mention AZB, we all know AZB and Joey A and with AZB there would not have been thousands of viewers on the stream.

Without AZB there would not have been thousands of viewers.

No stakehorse - they would rather throw insults at me than answer a simple question. It is easier to deflect that way then simply opening your mouth and speaking the truth.

I find it hilarious. One poster who attempted to demean me, complimented another poster in another thread for being able to state something straight to the point and wished he could do so himself. These people can't even stick to the same thought or belief from one hour to the next.

The problem here is that most cant see themselves for what they are.

Best of luck to JoeyA. I had a simple question that was on the minds of many. If you feel insulted by that and feel the need to hurl insults back, I still cannot fathom why. Personally, if JR had his hand in relaying to Taylor Road to not mention AZ - I find that petty. The owner of this site, Mike H., allows anyone to freely advertise thru his forum. Nice concept.

Stakehorse,

I do not enjoy answering questions from people like Watchez or any others whose main purpose on this forum is to create angst or if they have a personal reason for attacking me.

If the question had come from someone who was simply interested in knowing how I came to choose my opening line, it would have been a simple answer.

EVERYTHING that I do and say in the booth are my words and my thoughts and no one tells me what to say or how to say it.

As an independent contracted anchor commentator, I have had the privilege of complete control over what is said and done in my booth.

My opening signature line is not an affront to AZ Billiards and anyone who knows me, already knows that.

AZ Billiards is my extended family and most of the members know that my commentary gig is a professional gig and some of the questions that have been thrust in my face on this forum are personal questions that are better left to be asked in private by close friends.

I take great personal pride in being a member of AZ Billiards and feel that in some small way, I help to make the forum a better place. Most members know that.

Most of the members understand the reason for the words of my opening signature line. They are generic by design. Some have even offered other wording and all suggestions will be considered and appreciated.

I choose the questions and the people whom I will answer in this forum. If you are sincere and have no personal ax to grind you are far more likely to get an answer from me.

As I mentioned previously, some questions are better left for friends to ask in private and even then, friends know that some personal questions are better left unasked.

Hope I have answered your question.
JoeyA

I saw your actions as a professional not showing favoritism. WTF? Why attack that?

To Joey A.,I was highly entertained by your easy to listen to voice. You and JJ are the commentating DUO of ONEPOCKET knowledge and you know how to pick JJ brain's.Thanks Again also you and JJ did a great job on the 9 ball finals

Honestly Joey, you did a great job and no explanations are required. In future I'd suggest you don't introduce yourself with anything but your name. You are rapidly reaching the point where instead of people saying "Joey's that guy from the Internet forums" they will say "Joey's that guy who does the great commentating at all the tournaments."

I mean, Mitch Lawrence doesn't have to introduce himself as "That guy off' 'LA Law' who only got the job because he sounds good and married a player on the WPBA tour" does he? (No offense Mitch, love you lots, smooches.)

Stakehorse,

I have no idea if you have some previous problem with watchez. I do not want to create any angst or have any personal reason to attack you.

If the question had come from someone who was simply interested in knowing how I came to choose my opening line, it would have been a simple answer.

I think several people wondered the same thing.

EVERYTHING that I do and say in the booth are my words and my thoughts and no one tells me what to say or how to say it.

Thats the way it should be.

My opening signature line is not an affront to AZ Billiards and anyone who knows me, already knows that.

Thats fine but was that the question or was it why AZB was mentioned anytime, not just during your opening signature there is nothing wrong with that. I know there were multiple sponsers and you named them whcih is the thing to do but a shout out to AZB in there somewhere would have been ok, I think that is what people are saying. I am not a professional commentator so I dont know how these things work.

AZ Billiards is my extended family and most of the members know that my commentary gig is a professional gig and some of the questions that have been thrust in my face on this forum are personal questions that are better left to be asked in private by close friends.

I understand completely.

I choose the questions and the people whom I will answer in this forum. If you are sincere and have no personal ax to grind you are far more likely to get an answer from me.

I think most feel this way.

As I mentioned previously, some questions are better left for friends to ask in private and even then, friends know that some personal questions are better left unasked.

Hope I have answered your question.
JoeyA

I think this answered it just fine. Good luck in the future and in all your commentating gigs.

Ill simply say thanks JoeyA for making the livesteams something to look forward to every night after work.

I watched the first live stream, and could NOT believe how quickly they turned it around and gave us something we all enjoyed. I mean I was sea sick after the first match, but after a couple of adjustments by their team I couldnt wait to get home to see what was next.

Biggest surprises for me,

I actually liked Hillbilly in the booth.

JJ sounded like he had been doing it all his life.

Thanks again Joey
