Joey A's Dinner Donation

Doug,
I sincerely appreciate your thoughts and your friendship.

This thread and some of the things that have been said and not said are causing me to think about some of our other posters who do not post here as often and in some cases, not at all.

I also have been thinking about why some industry suppliers, cue makers, professional players, manufacturers and promoters do not interact with this forum.

While posting in this forum has given me great pleasure for many years I may need to start thinking about abstaining from posting in this forum or at least think about reducing my interaction here.

The constant sniping and back-biting is sad but more importantly it can't be good for the forum.

JoeyA

Personally, I have a problem with the lack of respect some posters show others and the misrepresentation going on. But that's just me.

I cannot believe that anyone should feel that he has the right to "full disclosure" of anyone's personal motives. Joey is not answerable to anyone.

Your attitude implies that he would support something bad just as long as he was getting paid to commentate on it. He is my friend and I know that he has far more principles than that.

He worked hard and gave his all for something in which he believed.

AZ are in the business of providing news (whether it came from Joey or not). This can come from Staff journalists or from postings on the Forums.

Joey put the news of being a Taylor employee out here, himself. And in this day and age, I believe it's pretty standard practice to disclose any vested interest you might have, if you're going to advocate for people to support a cause and invest their time and money into said cause. It is just a matter of honesty in advertising, so to speak, so that people can judge for themselves how unbiased the source of an endorsement is. That's all. No biggie, but certainly worth a mention :-)

How did this simple thread about "Joey A's Dinner Donation" turn to this? :scratchhead:

Your post above is another excellent example of the negative insinuations that you attempt to fill most of your posts with these days. Misrepresentation? Please.

Whatever happened to you Lou?

An open letter to JoeyA and others to whom it applies:

We all know that there are people on the forum who like to antagonize others for one reason or another. I think that much of this mean spirited dialog can be quickly put to rest if we all recognize how it is usually accomplished. The essence of the attack is most often personal.

The mean spirited person tries to find some ugly statement or inference that will get a rise out of you because it in some way challenges your personal integrity. At times the mean spirited person attacks an organization or a closely held idea such as CTE.

If we all recognize what is going on, this type of behavior can be quickly and easily done away with. While it is often not easy to do, see the personal nature of the attack for what it is, a mean spirited attempt to degrade.

Answers with facts that ignore innuendo leaves you as the winner. In the heat of our anger with statements that are intended to hurt it is often difficult to see that the vast majority of people are able to see through false, mean spirited statements.

You are no different than me and I am sure that when you read these kinds of things you think less of the person who is mean in their attacks. If we realize this simple fact of life we just ignore the jerks, put them in their place occasionally, and go about our business knowing that others are capable of understanding what is going on.

To the jerks I would say that you should know that every time you make a personal attack on another poster, we all know you for who you are. Personally, I pity these people and hope that their life improves to the point that they become mature adults. For the present, I simply ignore much as I ignore the seven year old who calls me a “fascist pig.” He has no idea.

Yea, WTH happened? Oh, I know, someone asked a question they were curious about and got lambasted (my choice of word for effect, calm down people).

JoeyA - I for one was not able to contribute to the dinner because the response was fast that I missed out! But, please know we appreciated all your hard work! Commentating for almost ten days is not easy and I appreciated the stream and the commentary from you!

I did wonder myself why AZBilliards.com Forums was not specifically mentioned, also.

For the Record, Mrs G and I started many, many threads on AZB about upcoming big matches all week/weekend being streamed and we were not paid by Taylor Road Productions. ;)

Also, for those of you who are wondering, in spite of probably taking a financial beating on this event, Taylor Road Production has made suggestions that this isn't the last event for them. They truly care about pool and pool players.

That's the best news I've heard all week!!! Thanks for passing that on, Joey!

Not a question - but a simple question was asked by me but thought about by many. In fact, the initial discussion I had on this was started by another respected poster here but chooses to not get involved. I can respect that. And I never resorted to DISrespect or name calling.

I heard that Welch backed out of commentating on the Galveston event and it made me even more curious.

It is true - I do not care for JR Calvert and his business practices. They show lack of respect since that is the subject of the day. IF he ever does anything good consistently, I might change my opinion.

And akatrigger, thanks for the updates. I will buy you dinner sometime to show my gratitude.

Most of my posts these days?! Stop stalking me ;-)

All I'm saying is that if you're going to be a paid shill, say you're a paid shill. Otherwise, you are misrepresenting your endorsements. I know you're new to the spokesmodel game, but I am not, so I'm just trying to clue you in -- you never even want the appearance of impropriety if you want to maintain your credibility, so you should disclose that you are shilling for your employer so people can judge for themselves how unbiased said endorsement is. Many, perhaps most, will take the disclosure in stride and think nothing of it. But some will add a grain (or pinch) of salt. YMMV.

lol. This would not be the first thread in internet history to change gears and direction. Joey is getting his dinner (guaranteed). That's said and done. This is just the post-dinner repartee :-)

By the way, Joey: what ever happen to you? You used to be such a classy guy. You used to be able to carry on a conversation -- even an antagonist one -- in a polite, mature, and dignified manner. I certainly don't mind a well-crafted jab, (I thought the Kayne West thing was pretty funny), but you've sunk to some pretty low brow stuff. What happen to you, Joey?

A huge thanks to you and Mrs G, two very fine contributors to the forum!

As for not contributing to the JoeyA dinner fund, that was a time you had to be very quick on the trigger! I think he and his wife could have dined anywhere in the country if the fund had stayed open more than a few minutes. Lenny suggested it and it was a done deal almost that quickly.

Joey

Just relax and veggie out for a few days. Then forget the negative output from these forums, just do not respond. You know that you did a good job but it beat you up.

You are still the man you were before all this crap emerged.

Hope that you are back on the Kashi Crunch.

Lou, Joey, Joey, Lou

This is addressed to both of you equally. You have known each other for many years and you are both very valuable contributors to this forum. Maybe I'm reading more into it than I should but it does seem that you both have let some good natured digs and some real and valid differences of opinion concerning Galveston erode a long friendship between two people who genuinely love the game.

Galveston is a done deal for this year. It was a great event that could have been better. Hopefully next year the things that you two disagreed on and that I moved back and forth on depending on if Taylor Road was releasing information or not will not even be issues. This year Taylor Road overadvertised and underproduced a bit, simply misjudging the number of entries. I very much hope that next year they are a little more conservative in their advertising and have far more entries and a larger purse than advertised.

Regardless of what Taylor Road does or doesn't do, I'm asking that two friends of mine bury the hatchet and give this back and forth a rest. Many onlookers no doubt find it entertaining but are either of you really enjoying it?

And th

Lou-Lou,

You enjoy stalking me and and following any thread or post about me so that you can say derogatory things about me. It's peculiar to say the least.

It is obvious that you enjoy trying to paint me in an unfavorable light at every opportunity. I don't know why but others have noticed so at least I don't have to wonder if it is just me.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or desire to respond to your incessant and petty attacks so I will avoid further interaction with you.

JoeyA

Joey you did a great job and worked hard before, during, and after to make this a great event. Anyone promoting an event would do yourself a great favor to get Joey involved.

If someone doesn't like something Joey said or did please start your own thread so that can be discussed there and not hijack Lenny's thread.

Well it might be a tad bit corny but I really appreciate Joeys commentary and hard work for all the days at Galveston and wanted to get few people to throw in for a nice dinner for him and his wife who let him off his leash for the tourney. I am in for $10, anyone else in for $5 or $10? I figure $100 should cover it unless Joey is a cheap skate he can go out for $50 and gamble the other $50 on his one pocket game. :grin-square:

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED, WE GOT ENOUGH FOR A REALLY NICE DINNER FOR JOEY AND HIS WIFE!
bump OP....

Will expect a report on the choices Fast Lenny presented:

A. A nice dinner with Mrs. A
B. A cheap dinner with Mrs. A & gambling on one pocket. (with results)

Joey,

I just want to say that I thought you did an excellent job in the booth. I think you were especially good at bringing out the best of your fellow commentators and kept the commentary flowing.

When Gomez was in the booth in one of the final matches, he saw a difficult three rail safe (the cue ball had to travel all the way around the table) to put the cue ball behind the 10 - and predicted that Warren Kiamco would shoot it. First of all, I didn't even see the safe until he said it - then I thought "no way" - and sure enough Warren shot it. I thought "wow, they must have taken the same safety class in the Phillipines". It was also interesting when you and Gomez spoke of the sports psychologists - something I know should have a larger presence in pool.

You really did a good job bringing out the best of these guys, JJ, Nick Varner, and some of the others. I learn more from hearing them talk then I do from watching the actual game. I thought you and Jeremy Jones were an ideal team. He is so focused on the game on the tables -he doesn't wander off too much.

Anyway, I thought you were very professional and I'm glad to hear you got paid.

Have you had any professional training?

Chris
