Johnston City

barber.....I've got one picture for you anyway, of the outside of the 'infamous hustler's shrine'...it was taken back in the day...I don't know who the guy in the pic is.

- Ghost

PS, And if I'm not mistaken, that white car in the pic is a 62' Plymouth Fury...a very cool car with a wild body design - sideways fins, front and back...I wouldn't mind having a black/white two-tone, mint cond. one of those today....:)

Great picture. Thanks for posting. I wonder what the building looks like now.

Bill (Island Drive), how about showing us a teaser from your video.

It was the fat man that got them to include one pocket also wasn't it scott?

More than likely, however, the first year it was One Pocket only,
and they called it a jamboree, rather than a tournament.

So you could say it was 9 Ball and Straight Pool that were 'included'

Dont know who

I squinted best I could. It may be Paulie Jansco. But the guy looks like he has a slight part on his left & Paulie did not. It's for sure not George Jansco.

He also bears a slight resemblance to "Detroit Whitey", Ed Beauchene. But it being a clean car just about rules that out. Unless it wasn't his car!

Dont know who that is, but I do know it aint one of the Jansco's and it certainly isnt Detroit Whitey.

Would need a clearer view of the guy.

I'm not sure how to do that....I did transfer it from VHS to CD quite a few years ago....I'd glady do it if I knew how to.

Somewhere on U tube I have seen a TV News Report by a Chicago station that shows many of the players shooting. Also in Fat's Book "Great Bank Shots and Other Robbie's" (now out of print) he tells many stories about Johnson City.

I do have a question about the words "SHOW BAR" on the sign. Was this a Strip Bar as well????

I don't recall that going on during the 3 weeks of play but may have been after and before the event started. I know it did have a 3'X6' Valley 'cracker box ' bar table in the show bar, Ronnie Allen spent some time in there.

Great pool detectives

On the older thread--which was posted in a message above..there is a link to a couple of pics --including this one.

It says that the guy in the picture was Johnny Edwards

Thanks DtR. You and Rubyron went to work on this like others had done with the Zapruder film! Good work.

I never heard of Johnny Edwards.

Island Dave

I found that U Tube about Johnson City.

BTW I am going to go against the Grain here. While I would love to see your interview for free, I believe it is your intellectual property and your right to sell or give it away. The big question is, how much is it worth and to whom. Fats has been out of the spot light for many years now. The longer you hold on to it, the less sale value it has IMHO.

Well I'd like to see it and willing to pay a little. It will certainly bring back some memories. Crap I've driven down 51 so many times I can't count em. It'd be cool to see some of that on film.

I'll see if I can work something up, its a two hour interview of thier life, where they met, when his father died also, have video of fattys house with video of the area outside he kept his pets, he was quite impacting on my younger years and would always ask if you wanted a ride back to your hotel room or whatever and a smile/persona that stands alone.

Could be Johnny Edwards

The guy could be Johnny Edwards, but I wouldnt bet much on that. Johnny was a very good player from Southern Ill. He once beat Harold Worst in a tourn match at Johnston City.
