What do you clean your Aramith balls with?

I am finally going to spend some $$$ on a ball polisher. I've been reading the past posts and I've decided to order a single from diamond. My question is why are so many people using random waxes and cleaners on their ball sets. Why would anyone use something other than ARAMITH BALL POLISH???? Sure if you dont mind how the balls play try rubbing the cueball down with WD-40??? WTF??? Aramith ball polish ONLY!!! This is not a calloway corvette paintjob were trying to make pop!!! Why all the suggestions of car waxes and cleaners. Learn me up, please Thanks,Gordon

super aramith polish is great and buffs the micro scratches off the ball.

after cloth gets old aramith polish the balls then use brillianize plastic cleaner and it makes the balls very slick .which in my opinion is what you want.or wax
 
Mr. Schmidt, thanks for your input. Where do I go to get your 14.1 instructionals? Have you done player reviews on any of your matches with ACCU-STATS? Any 1000 point matches in your future against other top players? Sorry for all the questions.

I haven't purchased a polisher yet so have been doing it by hand. I use the Aramith polish every couple of weeks to get out the micro scratches like John said. The stuff has grit in it and will accomplish that.

I use Brillianize more often, usually after every time I play mainly because it is easier to use than the Aramith polish. Whereas the Aramith has to be rubbed on to each ball with my finger, the Brillianze just sprays on and wipes off with a micro fiber towel. It's much easier and faster to use every time you are putting the balls away after play.

John's right about the Brillianize, it does leave the balls quite slick, I'm always dropping them after wiping them down. But there is no residue like with wax. The stuff actually gets the balls very clean with no residue, but they are slick.

If you use the Aramith polish in any ball cleaner, it'll clay up the cleaning surfaces;)

I just talked to Aaron at Diamond the other day and he said only if you put the balls in the polisher wet. He said use the Aramith fiber pads to put the Aramith cleaner on the balls and let them dry before putting them in their polisher

Just make real sure it's dry first, and if you start seeing it building up like clay, clean it out before you can't;)
 
I was gonna buy the diamond too. But a little Brillianize in my hand crank type ball polisher, and I'm done in 5 minutes. It might not be made particularly for balls like the aramith cleaner, but Brillianize is made for plastic. The balls are plastic too, so thats good enough for me.

With any creamy type ball cleaner I would have to apply the stuff and wait for it to dry. Dry it too little, and the wax makes a big mess in the machine. Dry it too much and you have to polish more(and it still gets messy with the wax build-up).

So, if I wanted to put something into my cue case, just to clean the balls up a bit, I'd use Brillianize? My local pool hall doesn't do much to keep there balls clean and shiny, and often have chalk marks or other dirt on them. Brillianize and a soft clothe?

If you use a little Jergens lotion on that hand crack, your balls will be done in about 2 min:rotflmao1::D
 
Glen,

I'm using the Maguires cleaner paste you recommended in my Diamond polisher. I just take the applicator an touch a spot on each ball and then turn on the machine. The balls come out great but will doing this have long term buildup in the machine?
 
In my past experience I used Aramith ball polish diluted in a spray bottle. Just put the balls in the polisher, spray real light mist over them and spin for 30 seconds, perfect. The only time we needed to apply by hand and wait until dry was on the initial cleaning of that particular ball set, or if someone brought in thier ball set that had never been cleaned. Eventually the pads in the polisher had a buildup of polish and we could spin the balls back to new with only spraying the polish occassionally. My concern is why does everyone complain about pocket size,angle , balls rattling out, etc., but no one ever talks about what is on the ball set? Every room or bar that I go to does it differently.One poolroom I went to the balls played extra "slippery" and didn't cling or throw like I was used to, and when I asked about what they used to clean them, because they were always clean, they said "pledge spray".!!!!!WTF???? Let me get this right in my head: GC with liner extensions and ARTEMIS, SIMONIS cloth, 6 tube flourescent light, SUPER ARAMITH PRO BALLS, MASTER chalk, and PLEDGE furniture wax or car wax or polish on the ball set???????WTF???? My thinking is ARAMITH BALLS=ARAMITH BALL POLISH, why all the extra -unrelated- to- pool products being used on the balls. One barroom owner actually was proud of how nice the balls looked after using wd-40 on them!!!!!!!!!! Please help me understand, I'm a little slow sometimes
 
I use aramith ball polish an cheap paper towels. Works great balls look brand new. :thumbup:
 
What if you alcohol and nothing else?

I will use that Aramith cleaner to remove the really bad scuff marks and then wipe the balls with 95% alcohol. The balls may not be as shiny but they don't slide as they normally do when I used some of those polishes.

Yeah, that would work. The Brillianize is just way easier to do a set faster than with Aramith ball polish. Any real deep chalk marks or stains (if they've been on the cue ball long enough) might require some elbow grease. The Aramith stuff does get out the deep in marks a little easier because it has mild abrasives in it (gritty feeling). But for the pool hall balls, even if the cue ball still shows some chalk stains, the Brillianize will get them clean though perhaps not as shiny as the Aramith polish. But they should play well regardless.

If I was going to carry something with me to the hall to clean the balls I would take the Brillianize.

The idea is for the balls and the table to play like new. I've heard of a break-in period for cloth but have never heard of break-in for balls. Wax in my opinion is just for looks. If you like lots of slide use wax. I love slide. But the drawback to wax is it starts to wear off in a short period of time. Depending on the condition of the cloth it could be mostly gone in as little as 20 minutes. If the table is clean you might get a couple of hours but at some point, its a game changer.

I know all this from a lot of experience. I carry my own carom set which I keep looking like new. If I'm going to play on a public table I through 3 coats of wax for slide and protection. If I have no way to clean the table before hand the balls look like 5 year old house balls in about 30 minutes, even with wax.

If you get deep scratches or burns the Aramith Restorer is a good product. A little more abrasive but it very friable. It breaks down quickly. Then go back to the Aramith cleaner.

How do you adjust to other balls when you play on tournament equiptment? The wax is what attracts the dirt and dust, I was told. Do they wax the balls at pro events for 3 cushion? Thanks for the info
