Niels Feijen ,Tony drago, Daryl Peach and Danny Basavich (kid delicious)
I think they are ovverated, They good players, but not that great. they are just alright and thats pretty much it, and some of them are boring to watch on TV, for example Niels feijen, he spins the table a hundred times and is so slow player which bores me to death.
the 4 players mentioned above are bad for TV Tables imo.
You mean you never heard of Bunny The Rogue, Pots and Pans or Bunny the Bellhop? Yes Mr. Bernard Rogoff has been called all these things and more. And still going strong in his 80's. A pretty fair country player as well. He won the BCA Seniors a few years back.
Why are pro pool players sacred?Johnnyt, I have to say I think this is a bad idea for a thread. Who are we to criticize these guys and gals who play better than virtually all of us?
Not many pro players post here but some probably lurk. If I were a pro player and got named in this thread, it wouldn't make me think kindly of AZB'ers, even though it may have been only one person who named me.
Ummmm Jay I feel silly asking this........who is/was Bunny Rogoff??

Why are pro pool players sacred?
People talk and write about pro athletes and perceptions of their ratings in other sports all the time. Entire programs are broadcast on ESPN just to discuss players' abilities and their ratings, whether or not they are assets or liabilities etc.
So we should not discuss the pros and how people may or may not rave about them just because they happen to be better than the rest of us?
I thought that was the whole point of a forum...harmless discussion.
I would add that if a pro or semi-pro finds his/her name on this list of overrated players and they are offended they should develop thicker skins. They should be able to handle being judged, criticized and assessed in the same way they can handle being worshipped, exalted and treated like gods.
Just look at some threads where someone dares to question the ability or performance of certain pros....everybody else pounces on them to "prove them wrong" which is silly.
I think people on these forums take themselves way too seriously at times.
IMO, the OP has every right to post something simply for the sake of provoking, or inciting discussion. This isn't a church, just a billiard forum...take it for what it is.
And for the record, Jennifer Baretta is very overrated...
I am sure a bunch of macho-men would jump on me because she is attractive or whatever...but of course I do not care...
Carry on...

I'n your opinion who are some of the most overrated players that a lot of fans feel are great? Male or female.
Mine is Charlie Bryant. I'm sure he's a nice person and a pretty good player...but not great IMO. Johnnyt
If you ever meet him, you'll never forget him. :grin-square:

I watched Glen Atwell play in the Reno event a couple years back
and he played like a god . The next time I saw him him play
he was not that impressive . The same goes for Shane , Mika , Archer etc...
and Me also . Pool is just that way . Sometimes you got it and sometimes
you don't .
It's really tough to judge who and who isn't overrated. It all depends when that player saw that player play.
Was he sick that day? Did he get no sleep? Does his back feel like it is going to break that day? There are so many factors.
There are so many great players today that on any given day provided that player can play his or her top game the outcome is hard to predict.
As for myself. I'm over rated. I'm 57 yrs old. On a day when my back doesn't hurt. Broke it in 2000, shoulder feels good, surgery in March 2010, knees don't hurt, 2 knee surgeries in 1996 was told I'd need a new knee within 5 years, or diabetes which can just screw you up on any day.
I play way above my expected caliber right now. But on a day when everything is right you don't want to be that person that is playing me. For the cash or in the tournament.
There are so many players such as myself on the so called pro circuit right now that when things are right they can just about beat anyone. Provided they prepared and put in the time.
Example: I'm in Tuscloosa teaching and giving some lessons. I've hardly played for 2 weeks. Too many lessons. I don't feel good because I've been going in some smoky poolrooms and I fell and hurt my knees real bad about 5 days ago.
A guy comes in the poolroom looking for a game. That morning I got kicked out of the motel room at 11:00. Only got 6 hours sleep. Gave 2 lessons that day already. Now I'm really pooped. Nobody else would play this guy. He plays pretty sporty.
I probably shouldn't have played but I did. Opportunity. I love to play.
I lose $500 to the guy and played real bad.
2 days later Clint Mc collough comes into the room with Jesse. I step up and play Clint thinking I got in stroke a couple of days ago.
I was almost there. I end up losing $500. I quit knowing I was pretty wore out and they asked me to play the next day. I said of course I would.
We play the next day and I win 2 sets and they quit.
Jesses exact words were, I'd like to know who said you can't play. You can play.
We were going to play some 10 ahead $800 sets after that in a few days. I showed up twice. I wanted to play. I was ready now. The second time I had been in Memphis playing. I was ready. It never happened.
So it all depends on what the conditions are that these players are subject to whether it be health or what it took to get to where they are playing.
I played Joey Barnes 3 sets in Mobile 2 days before the tourny down there. With traveling I was really tired and not in the best shape to play. I lose $300 at $100 a set to Joey. He can play. I looked helpless.
I played him the next day after some rest and beat him 2 sets for $300. Same guy but I was ready and felt good.
The first day he thought he had a sucker. If you would have had him rate my game then it would have been low. Rate me after the second day and you'ld get a different picture.
Bottom line, it's so hard to rate these players on their performance here and there. Of course results say alot. But some players just can't play a long time or get throught the torture that a tourny some times puts you through. Like playing until 6:30 in the morning and having your next match at 11:00 with hardly no sleep. Sometimes it's who has the best drugs?
There's an idea, Drug testing. But our sport almost demands a person needs something whether it be caffiene or something illegal to get through.
I was in one place where I gave this guy the 6 ball. Come back to play and the guy is loaded up on something and he ends up giving me the 6 and wins and there was hardly anything I could do. Now this guy takes the same stuff at a tournament and plays like an animal. Go figure.
Our sport kind of forces players to bow to these practices to try and get the edge. That's another whole story.
At the US Open. I'm playing Shawn Putnam. We're kind of deep in the tourny. We are supposed to play at 7:00. I'm diabetic and so is Shawn. We talked about it and we handle it both different ways. He just doesn't eat all day sometimes to keep his blood sugar down. A have to eat 5 or 6 times a day in small amounts to keep my blood sugar right.
We're waiting for the girl that is to sing God bless America. And Johnny Archer and Allison Fischer because they were getting put in the hall of fame.
Shawn and myself didn't start out match until 9:30 to 10:00. Needless to say I didn't bring something to eat. I was ready at 7:00 to play. I had my blood sugar perfect at that time. Sure they had concessions there. Hot dogs and potato chips. And a few other non diabetic food.
Things happen in these tournaments that can knock out a player that might have won if the conditions were different or the way they should have.
I'm not whinning or crying but just trying to point out how hard it is to judge someones game.
Then having said that, it's all part of the game , preparation. And also who rolls with the punches the best.
When I'm at one of these big tournaments I take nobody lightly. This underrated guy might have just done everything right to get ready and I might just have to play the match of my life to beat him.
I really could not say that anyone is overrated. They have earned their strips the hard way. In the field of battle playing the game we love. Playing against the best players there are in the world.
Try playing one of these players that they say are overrated in their home town with plenty of rest and alot of preperation that week and see how overrated they really are. And bring lots of money.
Because your going to need it I'm sure.
Looking at it from another point of view. From a guy that is out there trying to play these so called over rated guys.
Or should I say an over rated guy trying to play over rated guys.
To me if their there the earned their way there. Simple as that.
Just getting there says alot about their heart. And it takes alot of heart to keep doing this over and over and over.
I had fun saying this. I hope this hits home with some of you.
Have a great day geno............
