Congratulations Topeka APA National Champions

Hooray for the APA 8-ball team champs from Topeka Kansas. This is the 3rd national champs we've crowned since 2004. Can any other region boast this accomplishment?

congrats on your win, but not to take anything away from your players but if i know APA im sure your 2's and 3's can run racks but yet you play like that in florida they make you a 6 or a 7. thats why a team from Florida has never won the national title cause its not a level playing field in Vegas. anyone else agree with this?

3 National Championships in 7 years.......I smell something.....smells like fish...........fishy, if you will...........can't quite place it.......

Someone help me here.

Totally.. i play in the the middle of florida and you can't run a rack without getting fingers pointed.

well id point more than my finger at the racks in your avatar there.

congrats to Topeka....seriously, no matter whether you had some guys who could stopped the water from rising in New Orleans, im sure that team shot great pool to make it through that huge field.

Championships

Congrats on your win. I do know that Terry Billiards has been good for the Pool Players in Topeka.

I'm not a member of this team. I don't have what they need to win something like this. I do have more to post about this team and what it takes for a team from one of the smallest APA franchises to win so often, but wanted to wait for a few responses first.

Since I play in the largest apa franchise I would like to here more. We had our first winner this year,9-ball, but we send about 30 teams each year who never get close.

Personally, I'd like to hear from the team members about how they sandbagged their way to the finals, and the win...since it's so obvious that teams have to cheat to win in the APA.

If its so easy to win there. Why don't you build an honest handicapped team and go win it !

Why is it so difficult for people to simply say congratulations?

I don't know any members of this team and I'm sure it's safe to say, that most if not all of the questioning naysayers in this thread don't know them either.

Believe it or not, some people/teams actually put in alot of table time to hone their skills, which believe it or not may on occassion pay off with a championship.

If you want to accuse a person/team of sandbagging or some other form of cheating, step up to the plate and deliver some evidence and don't stand behind uninformed cowardly innuendo.

I haven't had the opportunity to win/play for a national championship yet, but several teams, singles, and scotch doubles teams in my league have done so and they deserve every accolade that's bestowed upon them, just as you do.

Congratulations Topeka!!!!!

Isn't Scott kind of saying that you have to sandbag to win out there? I think he is saying that it would be tough to get an honest handicaped team and win.

Congrats to the winners...sandbagging or not.

The reason it is so hard for anyone to just give a hearty congrats is simply that this level of "success" is almost always the result of sandbagging in the APA. We all know how the system works and everyone knows that sandbagging is a huge problem in the APA. Anyone who thinks that 3 championships in 7 years is anything but sandbagging is either very new to leagues or is just kidding themselves.

Nope. Not a level playing field ? As level as a handicapped league full of sandbaggers can be .
Took my team from FL out there this year for 9-ball
first match 50-50 loss cuz they had 3 first
2nd match bye
3rd match 50-50 win we had three first
4th match 48-52 loss . I played the first match of the fourth match , and lost 12-8 , needing 2 more balls (or I 9ball) which would have swung the total points to 52-48 .
So that entire match swung on two balls .
Or , at the end , to swing it back our way , our s/l 3 needed 3 more balls
How much closer can matches possibly get ?
Evenly matched ? I'll say !

Our sandbaggers are just as good as their sandbaggers !

So it's simply guilt by association?

Just because some teams sandbag, all teams sandbag?

Whether they go 2 and out or win the champtionship?

I think it has to do with the 23 rule and handicaps moving up. Isn't there also a rule about only being able to play 2 or less players rated 6+? It sees like it would be tough to get through a field of 700-800 teams without a couple players being a little lower then they should probably be.

So was the team legit or not. I know a guy who's ranked a SL3 here in town that plays high SL6 to a low SL7 speed. He even got to take some minis off in Vegas without attracting a lot of attention. There is an art to sandbagging for sure.

Whether they won with a true team or sandbagged there don't matter, I feel like Efren might not win the BCA Open Division so whatever happened its impressive to win that many matches without dogging it too bad.

Well of course it's tough to get through that many teams, that's why it's called a championship.

Correct, a team can play a max of 2-6's or higher, the rest have to be 5's or lower.

Look, I'm not naive enough to think that people don't sandbag in the APA, they do and I'll be the first to admit that. I know people that do it, some will even admit to it.

But, to sit there and accuse someone of cheating, simply because other teams have cheated in the past, is simply wrong.

If a team/player is caught cheating, they deserve all of the chastising and ridicule that's thrown at them, just don't convict the team before there is any proof.

Otherwise, congratulate the champion and move on.
