As many of you know, I've been working hard on a secret new project for quite some time now. Dave and I just returned from the US Open, and while away on our trip, we decided to finally let the secret out.

The pool world has been asking for more coverage, better content, and higher production value. And so without further delay, we proudly present:

The Runout Media Video Magazine

Youtube clip (note that 720p HD is available)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGVZyQY1Hsg

This will be a very high end video magazine that will launch in the second half of November 2010. We will be releasing 10 issues per year (every 5 weeks), and each issue will have an approximate running time of 60 minutes. Issues will be available in 720p HD, streamed instantly from our website. Physcial DVDs will also be an added option, bundled into box sets every 6 months. Subscriptions will be available upon launch at http://www.runoutmedia.com for $12.50 per issue, or a full year (10 issues) for a discounted $99.

Our intent is to deliver a fresh perspective on the pool world through the release of high quality video productions. Each issue will include a variety of segments that focus on international pool culture. Although each issue will include tournament coverage, we are not interested in resulting scores. Our focus will remain on the players, personalities, and community, with a strong emphasis on 'behind the scenes' content. As such, this will not be a news source, but rather quality billiard related entertainment.

Issue #1 will be released free next month. This will allow potential subscribers to see our unparalleled content, quality, and dedication. Issue #2 will launch at the same time, available to subscribers immediately.

The Runout Media Video Magazine will be an international release. We will be flying to events all over the world, including the Philippines, Europe, and the USA. This will allow viewers to see first hand what goes on behind the scenes at events such as the Mosconi Cup, World Championships, Derby City, etc. Viewers will also be treated to glimpses into the lives of the players when they are away from the table, after hours celebrations, and the cultural significance of pool in varying regions of the globe.

Stay tuned for more updates over the next few weeks. Updates will be available from our Facebook group and Twitter respectively:

How are you since the accident after the open? Looking forward to seeing the Magazine and was concerned that your equipment loss would effect your project.

That is GREAT! I love the music in the background of the intro trailer.

I think pool could use something like this. Sometimes pool folk, because of maybe work schedules or family responsibilities, are unable and cannot watch pool live on PPV, but to watch it like this, when you have time to watch it, well, this fills a void in the pool world, I think.

Wishing you all the best success in your future endeavors on this! I'd say best of luck, but I don't think you're going to need any luck. This will be a great resource to all pool aficionados everywhere. :)

Holly,

The project is indeed in jeopardy. The first two issues are filmed and one is already edited, but without my gear, all future issues cannot be made.

I've decided to keep editing and hope for some sort of miracle...stay focused and just hope it all works itself out. If it doesn't, I simply will abandon the project and will not sell any subscriptions. Simply put, I just refuse to give up yet.

PS. For anyone who isn't aware, Holly is referring to a pretty bad car accident that I was in on the way back from the US Open yesterday. My vehicle was written off, and all my gear was destroyed (about $10k worth of cameras and whatnot), and sadly it was uninsured (as most of it was just bought the day before the Open).

Awesome guys, I look forward tothe first issue. Look high quality and I am sure it will be interesting, good luck.

WOW, I'm sorry to hear about your bad misfortune!
I hope something materializes quickly for your video equipment needs! Good luck in this time of tragedy with continuing your project of making a modern pool video magazine! That is a great concept

Can I suggest that you duplicate your videos on either blip.tv or vimeo ... i know youtube is the standard, but i do most of my web-surfing in my down-time at work; where youtube is blocked. I try to make a list of threads/videos to revisit back home, but i dont always make it.

Just a thought.

Looks like it should have some great stuff in it! Can't wait to see the first issue.

Best of luck with your equipment problems... I can't even imagine how to deal with all of that stress. :(

Wow, Nate, that is horrendous luck. It's a hollow victory, but I'm glad you and Dave are ok. You are ok, right?

Here's a long shot suggestion on your gear. If you purchased the stuff recently, with a credit card, call the CC company and see if they have any kind of "buyer protection", where they will reimburse you for recent purchases. There is a slight chance that you can be made whole. Also, if the other person was at fault (in the car accident), perhaps you can submit a claim for damages?

Wow, that little snip-it looked awesome. Can't wait to see the full edition. I'm sorry to hear about your accident and lose of your new cameras. Hopefully that miracle will come through for you. Maybe a rich dude will step up and help, I would if I were rich. Best of luck to your new video magazine. Sk8ing & surfing started doing that along time ago and it took off big time, very popular. Ron

I do hope Dave and yourself are 100% ok !

Great concept, bad luck !

If it was indeed purchased with a creditcard you should look into the buyer protection area !

Jeez, I wrote my initial comment and never saw about the accident. I hope you are ok and that the insurance from the other person or your car insurance will cover your equiptment. Thats a bad roll guys but at least you are ok.

Wow, sorry to hear about the loss.

Just curious though, why this info wasn't put in original OP? Maybe I missed something? Thanks!

I've looked into this already, and one camera MAY be covered. The other one and the rest of the equipment however does not qualify, as it's more than 60 or 90 since the time of purchase.

Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

Love the clip!! Will absolutely look into getting a subscription!!! Hope everything works out after the accident. Keep you vision alive!!

I really liked your Venom DVD. Let me know if I can purchase the first video when it's ready to help raise some funds for new equipment. Good luck.

It will blow you away....

(the free issue) Issue #1 will feature A day in the life of Mika Immonen

Issue #2 will feature Earl "the Pearl" Strickland at his finest

(the free issue) Issue #1 will feature A day in the life of Mika Immonen

Issue #2 will feature Earl "the Pearl" Strickland at his finest

To clarify this, each issue has a feature, be it focused on a player, specific event, or a cultural editorial (such as our planned trip to the Philippines). The "Day in the life of Mika Immonen" is only a small portion of Issue #1, and was chosen based on Mika's popularity, and the fact that Mika is a friend of mine. Similarly, the feature on Earl Strickland is also only one section in Issue #2. Future issues will concentrate on key International players, including top female players.

The bulk of each issue does not follow a preset format, but rather just allows us to focus on whatever we feel is most interesting and relevant at the time. This can include tournament footage, tons of behind the scenes content (you won't believe how much ridiculous stuff goes on), a segment where players showcase and repeat famous shots throughout history, etc.

On TV, these players are portrayed as robots who systematically pocket balls without any emotion. You don't know who to cheer for, as the players are not given opportunity to show their personalities. It's no wonder the sport is suffering in viewership.

The idea of the Runout Media Video Magazine is to change this. We want to bring out the interesting aspects and personalities within the sport. Not scores or news, but community and culture.....content that will still be relevant in years to come.

Nathan,I think the uses of current and emerging technologies is the only way for pool to go in reducing the knowledge gap between professionals and a large portion of its own participants and a current and potential fan base. The knowledge gap exists on a variety of different levels and you may be touching on a portion of that void.Whenever there is an information gap there is room for opportunity.

As time goes on the degrees to which the game can experience impactful change become smaller but revolutionary change can come from presentation, how the game is viewed and absorbed by the masses. The game must advance into our connected, visual world.

I hope that this is your opportunity.

If there is a "Donate" button on your web site I will utilize it.If not, perhaps you could send your pay pal info via pm.I would like to help.

Keep bringing fresh ideas to pool and do not settle for the status quo.

Better luck in the future,
JMuck
