Prayers for Tom and his family. And thanks Dave for letting us know.
Tom really assisted in the videos the two of you put out. His Billiard Digest articles were on target. He has the experience, stroke and knowledge typically gained in attentive living on a pool table.

Again, I send a heartfelt thanks to everybody for all of the love and support. I'm sure Tom will appreciate it when I read these posts to him, and I'm sure it will help him in his recovery.
It's times like these that really make me appreciate the AZB community. It feels good to know we all have such a large family of pool friends.

Tom just recently turned 50, and he seemed to be in excellent physical condition, which makes the stroke even more of a shock (although, from what I understand, genetics can play a role).

I know you say genetics "can" play a role, but please don't underestimate the impact of genetics in situations like this. I'm not sure if you remember him, but remember Jim Fixx? Although Jim Fixx, the running guru himself, was defeated by a massive coronary, the same type of blood clot vulnerability is genetic relative to strokes.
What's sad is when you're "rolling the dice" so-to-speak. For example, all the males on my father's side of the family are centenarians, with the notable exception of my grandfather, who I inherited my middle name from, that died at 90 from a broken heart (most of my family guess he decided he didn't want to live anymore, after the death of his wife, my grandmother). Yet, on my mother's side, there's this scary condition of heart disease that mysteriously skips a generation -- it took out my grandfather, a longshoreman in fit shape, at 77. My mom and I have this "turn your head away, and close your eyes" gamble whether she or I will get hit with the heart disease. I'm hoping the strong dominant genes from my father's side of the family prevail. But one can only hope, right?
The only thing I can do, is to take care of my health, and those that I love. And on that note, I can only hope that something strong, dominant, takes over for Tom, in helping him stay with us for a much longer time.

My wife had a massive stroke a year ago today, and unfortunately sometimes they never figure out the cause. My wife was 47, overall good health, no smoking, good cholesterol etc etc etc. They still dont know what caused the blood clot in her brain.
Was Toms stroke ischemic or hemorrhagic?

There was a hemorrhage and a large clot, which required an operation.
Thank you, and I'm sorry to hear about your wife. I hope her recovery has been good.
Tom's condition hasn't changed the last couple of days, but everybody is still hopeful (and very concerned).
