Worlds Greatest Player vs. the Peoples Champion

It was a race to 30. If I am not correct I would bet it was 12.

On day one he made it on the break five times. Most of the times the ten wasnt moving off the break. Another ball was kicking it in the side off the break.

I remember that specifically because the next morning Grady told me he decided that he was gonna take 5 games away from Shanes score and play from there. When I explained that was not going to happen and why I got in my first heated argument with a legend.

After Earl picked the spot for Shane to break from (which he did for the rest of the match) I don't think the ten got kicked in anymore.

Yes, absolutely. Both players are in their prime. Should Shane wait until Archer is 50 to play? Look what happened Shane vs Efren. Efren missed TONS of shots, and it was obvious he was a shadow of himself during that matchup. The fans are owed a true exhibit of both player's skills in this shane/archer case, while Archer is still playing great.

Now, if Archer doesn't want to play on a "gamblers" GC, and only on a gimmick GC, then I take back my statement.

Thx Justin, I PM'd Calired and he said he didn't do the stats on that match. 5 on the break is a lot but nowhere near 12 or 14 out of 30 games.

I don't see Johnny tripping over himself to play Shane. On a neutrual table with normal rules, I don't see Shane getting scared.

Shane doesn't owe Johnny anything but respect.

I think Earl would play johnny 10 ball with the no luck rules that he is supposed to play SVB with. I like Earl playing JA.
That match is on, I have 3 of the 4 pieces of the puzzle together and all I need now is to set up PPV. I hope to hear something from Justin soon as I left him a message already.

Sad thing for us fans is, I don't see the match between JA vs SVB ever happening unless Shane's side gives in to JA's demands. I'm not saying they should either but I'm sure SVB is going to get tired of hearing from people how he can't beat Archer for years just because he won't give in to JA's stipulations.

The way we lost last time is negated. The first day Shane made it on the break 14 times and mounted a huge lead over the mighty Earl. This time it comes down to shooting and nobody in world can out shoot Earl.

Are you delusional or do you just like to hear yourself talk??? I offered 3-1 if you like Earl, and you havent said peep. Why dont you quit chirping and put up or shutup??? I hope you are staking Earl in this and he isnt betting his own. Hate to see cheerleaders make the players go busto.

I'll take you up on the 3 to 1 odds how do you want to set that up...? never done this on here before

I seem to recall Jay Helfert relating a story about Earl ranting outside a tournament in the hall, and one of his gripes at that moment was that the side pockets should be done away with! :p

I don't think that was me, but I have been privy to a more than a few of Earl's rants. And in all honesty, he sometimes makes a lot of sense. There aren't too many people who know more about the game of pool than Earl. He just gets a little too carried away with his opinions from time to time. It's hard to offer an opposing or alternate point of view to Earl. In fact, I would amend that to impossible!

That could have been me. I walked past Earl holding court outside the pool room where Charlie Williams was holding the "World 10 Ball Championships" in Jacksonville and he was saying that to fix pool the game had to be played on a 5x10 with tight pockets and no side pockets. The gentlemen he was addressing were nodding in agreement. I have found myself to be in the same postion on occasions since.

Still one of my favorite Earl stories. When he gets wound up and going you can really see how much he truly loves the game even if some of the things he says don't make much sense. The flip side is some of his nuttier sounding theories do have somethings that make you say "Hmmmm"

so i am crazy.....

i was going to start a thread about whether the pool would be better without side pockets....lol! but after some thought, i think it'd slow the game down too much. if you got clusters by the rails where the side pockets were, it could turn into an ugly tip tap game, for eight ball anyways. it'd be great for rotation games and one pocket.

They did have a few tables many, many years go, with just 2 corner pockets. There is a write up on them on onepocket.org on one of their articles.
