Earl/Shane Scoreboard

Earl needs to come out tonight donning a straight jacket as a robe with "Got Crazy?" on the back. Maybe enter the arena to "Stupid Girl" or "Humpty Dance", some song that makes no sense whatsover.

I was going to make a few bets on Shane in this one, but something told me not to. Plus the fact that I was going to be in Biloxi and not get to watch. I ended up having to leave Biloxi yesterday so now I can hopefully watch tonight.

Here's a good theme song for the Pearl/Squirrel !

say what you want about the "gimmicks," but IMO they all of them actually test who is truly a better pool player. The break spot makes the break mean a lot less, and for the most part - the break is the luck factor into the game. The bigger table tests just how good your shot making really is, and the 10 having to be played last means you actually have to run to run out the whole rack instead of taking the easy combo for the win. That being said, Earl's behavior is just unacceptable. If it keeps going the way it is, he should be warned that the match will just get cancelled, plain and simple. There should at least be a ref like Jay at a match like this to keep Earl in check.

Let's play with new rules, absolutely no words can be said besides "safe" and calling the pocket or the shot.

We shall see how that would go.

paksat...Are you saying you believe Earl wins over Shane 100-60? If you are, you got action from almost everybody on this site. Earl has a small lead on day one. Most of these TAR matches have seen 10 game leads after the first day.

100-60 is all I have to say. With no gimmicks, no bs, no 5 year old stomping.

Just a straight beat down.

No scott, that was a typo, score was 100-70 I believe the last time they played? Shane winning.

I'll edit that.

Yeah... that would drive TAR PPV sales through the roof, wouldn't it?

Hit your shot and sit down. Don't say anything. Everything quiet.

The pool purists would love it. But it wouldn't sell like this match and the upcoming Earl/JA match will sell. Whether you like that or not. That attitude and style is why there isn't any televised pool in the US now. It's boring unless you are a purist. It won't sell, and you won't get TV to touch it.

it would determine just how good each player though is, though wouldn't it?

That was hypothetical anyway, like it would happen.

This is overkill. I agree somewhat with what has been said here, emotion is good, drama is good. But Earl is trying too hard with it now (ie: wishes he was deaf comment). Personally I feel when you try too hard at anything you will fall on your face and thats what I'm expecting in Day 2 and 3 :)

A good balance of drama, emotion and skill are what can make the sport thrive. Every sport has them. We are humans, not robots.

Maybe you should stop drinking and get rid of the beer muscles already.
This is Earls and Shane's game, and everyone esle and his brother has to protect poor Shane. ( I like SVB) but he's a big boy, and he can fight his own battles, and doesn't need bully's trying to pick fights with his opponent. This is a freaking pool game guys, not a freaking church social.....you know, with pool players ?? Hello.....

Has anyone yet tried to hassle the NFL players who are criminals but yet still allowed to play ?? I'm mean, if you are going to the mat for Shane, what about other sports? Have you threatened Michael Vick yet? Or the rest of the NFL and NBA thugs?? Earl is all bark, and no bite.

Yet, some of you guys still act like he nailed your mother or kicked your dog......

Give it a rest already. Let the boys play some pool without the drama from the fans. Nobody put a gun against anyones head to play Earl, and nobody seems to say no. SO, even most players appear not to be bothered enought not to play Earl. Not to hard to understand.

Fats makes up a story that somebody sh*t their pants and all is good. Personally, you can shark me all day, but telling folks I sh*t my pants is quite embarrassing ! I still think it's damn funny, as long as Fats is saying about somebody other than me !

Heck of match so far, so maybe enjoy the rest of this championship pool, buy the stream, buy a new cue, go to your local room today and support pool. Leave the drama to Real Housewives of Orange County.......

Good one. I've had guys say every manner of thing said about my manhood. I've had two guys hold their cues turned arround like a ball bat and swing it a foot away from my head, while I was down on a shot. Hung up and not paid three or four times in the same night. Dumped and walked in on the guys whacking up the cash once. Once I looked arround and my gf is rolling on the floor wi another girl in a viscious fight. This is kid stuff. Let them have some fun. Nobody has earned it more. That being said, I do think Earl should be reined in a bit at tournaments and he has to shut the ef up when you get down on the shot....

less drama today

Earl's going to combat the audience with music today....

That should help him out with less distractions.

H:mmm

Last time doesn't pay the rent and means nothing in this contest. Big table, less luck, may the best player win. If someone can't take a litle sharking, then take up croquet and see how much action you get then. Is Shane complaining?? DIdn't think so. So time to quit acting like high school girls protecting your boyfriend ! This man crush thing is kinda embarrassing, NOT that there is anything wrong with that.....

That's what TAR should do, sell the sizzle, the woof, have matchups like this that allow interaction when opponent is not adressing the shot. Would be kinda real when you think of all the BS that goes on in every hole in the wall juke joint with a pool table and liquor. Make it verbal cage wrestling 10 Ball with rules.

Like anything else, the key is knowing how much is too much. Sounds like it was at that point for a short while last evening.

One would think that there could be a way for whoever is in charge of that particular event could let the guys know that if it's getting to that point, a signal to dial it down a notch would be appropriate.

Face it, Minnesota fats made such an impression because of the woofing. Muhammad Ali. John McEnroe. Any wide receiver in football today. (Oops, they aren't playing football currently, are they? :embarrassed2: ) Charles Barkley. Michael Jordan and Larry Bird dished the trash talk as well as anyone ever did.

A little sizzle helps attract attention. Too much (Dennis Rodman, Terrell Owens) is simply too much, and needs to be reigned in.

I believe Earl understands this concept, deep down. He just needs a filter, someone to bring him back when he goes too far. A handler, so's to speak. Anyone organizing an event with him involved needs to understand this, as well, and to be prepared to catch him before he gets too far out there. from his accounts, Jay seems to get it, and seems to be able to let Earl know where that line is, and then Earl maintains that line. It's not like this is a new thing happening only recently.

A little attention to the sport would be a good thing.

Good post dub !! I'm sure pool players invented sharking, I heard Abe Lincoln use to "kid" about sending someone to an unpleasant place for their next assignment when he was behind a few games playing pool !! NFL players have been known to spit in their opponents face, make bad remarks about the other guys wife or mother..... etc.

grow up...

Hmmmm

grow up...

Ok, will do. But you can still move to the kiddie game down the street if this is too much for your little sensitive heart..... booo freaking hoo....lol.

No response to my NFL comparison, huh?? Yeah, a little perspective, huh.??

Earls antics have been around longer than Shane has been alive lol. If Shane was up you all would be laughing your asses off at his meltdown.which will happen again most likely. In their last match I don't recall as much earl bashing when svb happily beat his face in. Just saying earl hasn't changed his tune no matter how obnoxious it can be.

very good post dub. couldnt have said it better myself. it seems like over the years the more earl got away with his antics the more he has tried to get away with. sharking is one thing but his comment regarding shanes hearing could taking it too far. only earl knows wheather it was in a malicous way or an off the wall comment without thinking

if it is true that archer intends to give earl a taste of his own medicine at bad blood it will be very interesting to see how earl handles it.

I'm told by my "source" -- :D -- that Earl Strickland has experience playing on 5-by-10 tables. In fact, Earl has a little snooker knowledge. Snooker actually used to be quite popular down South. He also, I am told, used to played pool -- not snooker -- on the 5-by-10's in Detroit where Cornbread Red used to play all the time, real tight table. That might be worth a little edge in this match-up.

That said, with Earl hitting the big five-oh this year, Shane's got youth on his side with endurance and good eyes.

Earl, though, with his experience can adjust to equipment much faster than most. Shane, however, has that incredibly powerful break.

One thing for sure, this TAR challenge match is probably the biggest thing that's happened to pool in a very long time. How refreshing it is to have two champions compete, giving it their all.

I was beginning to think the pool world was turned upside-down in recent times with the huge spots being given out. Money talks, and B.S. walks, I guess, but for me personally, I'd much rather watch two champion pool players give it their all. 'Bout damn time the pool world came to its senses.

Sure, betting it high as the Georgia pine might be attractive, but it sure doesn't make for good pool watching when the talent is lopsided.

This match between Shane vs. Earl can now be considered an epic pool happening.

11 threads on front page about Earl/Shane

Jam, it would be at least 12 threads if it was Epic.
