Mosconi Cup 'Conspiracy' ????

As i said, i was talking to him face to face. I didn't hear the stream as i was there. He doesn't hide the fact that he doesn't want earl on the team, and i didn't mean to imply that he did. He did however tell me what i already put in my previous post, it is what it is.

I wasn't trying to contradict you, just reporting what he said on the stream.

Henney & Earl on the same team...Wow...I think the Euro's would hate us more than the radical muslems then..lol

Got my vote too.

John can sure step it up when he has to. I've watched him run over Hohman, Neils and several top Euro players.

A few years ago at DCC I talked to JA for nearly an hour about the Jeanette Lee and Bobby Pickle match in progress as we stood there watching...I came to respect JA from that point...

BUT, the last Music City open in Nashville I lost that respect for JA...a buddy was there and told me that JA told Nick Hickerson that he shouldn't even be on the same table as him....talked to Nick pretty bad!! not cool at all....Nick put Johnny in the loser bracket and JA put him outta the tourney in 3rd place IIRC....this sport needs all the players it can get...

It doesn't need pompus ass professionals who want to dictate who plays and who doesn't...pool should be based on the level of play.....I can put up with just about anyone as long as their level of play is extraordinary short of making fun of someone's handicap....that is what is wrong with this game........imo

Just please remember that my fellow North Carolinian (Earl) has the absolute best winning percentage of any Mosconi Cup player ever, Go Earl it's time for US Open number six buddy.-- I have seen him win three times at the Open live and am ready for another.--Leonard

When Tiger Woods phlemed up the play area in a recent PGA event it was NOT taken lightly by his peers and the PGA. So since the pro pool players in the US are not well off and are not recognized, does this then allow someone to represent the USA and its team with behavior such as this? It may be time for players who know the difference between right/wrong to draw the line. Sometimes in life making the right choice is going against the ''status quo'', the pro pool players Quo and the industry, can use all the help it can get. JA if this is your choice, and this is really taking place, I support your decision.

+1, good post.

I am not implying that any of last year's team would refuse to play with Earl on the team. But even if a couple did take that course of action, do you imagine that great players like Mike Dechaine, Brandon Shuff wouldn't jump at the chance.

There's a couple of names that ought to be on the team ALREADY!!!

If u loved the fact that another poster initial-capped the word country, then I find it hard to believe that u think Thorsten would ever play for Team USA in

the Mosconi Cup. Not that Thorsten disrespects the US Team, but I find it hard to believe he would do that being born and brought up in Germany.

Welcome to the forum. I see that you just joined. Is this your first time reading AzBilliards? If so, I hope you enjoy your time here. :)

Our representative to the WPA, the Billiards Congress of America (BCA), likes Thorsten Hohmann very much. They might be able to get him on Team USA since he lives in the States and has participated in previous BCA-ranked tournaments. They have committees at the BCA that can make things like this happen.

The red, white, and blue would complement those beautiful blue eyes of Thorsten's, much more so than the black, red, and gold of Germany's flag, don't you think? :p

looks like its mika, darren, thorsten, dirk nowitzki and albert einstein playing for Team USA in 2011?

No, silly! :D

As far as Born-in-America players for Team USA on the Mosconi Cup in 2011, there is no doubt that Dennis Hatch will always step up to the plate. I think he cherishes each minute of that competition and is proud to represent his country.

Shane Van Boening is a given. He's the top American player, aside from Earl Strickland, and deserves a spot.

Players like Stevie Moore who aren't afforded as many opportunities to compete overseas is another strong player. I am voting for him this year, if there is a public poll.

Rodney Morris is a good team player. As long as he can hang out with the team during the event and practice, he's always going to perform brilliantly.

And then there's Earl Strickland. He's still my horse if he never wins a race!

Again, welcome to the forum Rooolfl. I hope you enjoy the threads and look forward to your contributions.

During the live stream today Shawn Putnam mentioned "9-10 American players have got together and have voted not to play if Earl makes the team".

..

Do you really think they'll turn down 10-15K plus a chance to play for their Country? It's awfully hard to believe.

I was there first hand when the phone call was made to Matchroom. Players requested to be withdrawn from the list of possible candidates for the 2011 American Team.

The players don't want to play with Earl. Nor only is he a distraction and a poor sport, but he also entirely ruins the team's chemistry.

It will be refreshing to see some new blood on Team USA. That may be good news. :)

I forget the name of the English player who competed on Team Europe last year, but he exhibited a great performance. Sometimes a little new blood is exactly what a team needs.

I don't really care if I ever see Putnam play....

If Putnam makes the Mosconi team....I am not going to watch.

Well, if that's the case, why all the secrecy? Why didn't Putnam just name name names? Why don't these players just come out publicly and say this?

As a fan I would like to know who is REALLY in the running for the Mosconi Cup. It is also only fair to their fellow pros. To some players it could easily make a difference about whether they might incur the expense of traveling to points events if they might have a chance of making the team, especially as the year wears on. If a guy is 12 15th in points, but really is #6 on the list of players willing go...you get the idea.

Didn;'t read it all but:
A. It is tough to talk for a few hours without putting a foot in your mouth.
2. Any pool pro would be a fool to turn down the opportunity to be on a Mosconi Cup Team.

Mosconi Cup is war, you don't get to pick and choose your fellow foxhole companions. Man up and fight.

Excellent post. I've been on tournament teams with some real abrasive people and we always found a way to work it out to get the win. Man up and fight indeed!

That is absolutely true. However, repeatedly sticking that same foot in mouth (harping on the Mosconi cup team, as has been described as having happened) goes beyond this concept.

True, and true.

This stuff gets more interesting every week, doesn't it?

I agree with you about Nick, Terry. But, I wonder if anyone else caught his commentating blooper? Shawn was talking about how Earl could never be able to play with one of his cues that he makes, and Nick said "I agree, he couldn't play with one of your cues." Then Nick hesitated for a second in thought and came out with "But he could play with a broomstick!"

I know Nick didn't mean anything bad to Shawn with the statement, he was just thinking that Earl doesn't even need a cue to play with. But, the statement came shortly after Shawn was dissing Earl again, and I got a big laugh out of it.

I caught it,

he said his sticks were too stiff and that Earl couldn't play with one of them. Then Nick chimed in.
