He did make it to day 2 of the tournament though! Keith macready challenged him to a one pocket cash game and
Charlie said ,'heck no'. It was funny! Keith was plastered and Charlie still refused lol
I definitely don't remember that, but I'm sure it could have happened.
Keith beat Charlie at a Joss tournament in Chelmsford in 2003 or 2004 (subject to check), I think it was, and Charlie beat Keith in a tournament in my presence once, but I can't remember which one it was.
Tournament play is quite different than action. Some tournament soldiers may not fare well in gambling, and vice versa, some action players may not shoot well in short tournament races. Does it mean a tournament soldier is better at pool, more proficient than say an action man? I'm not quite sure.
I am always reminded of what Keith says about these "who's the best" topics: Just remember that there's a paddle out there that will fit every back side.
When you think about it, it's true. Another saying of his is "Don't ever forget *who* you are." I'm not so sure why railbirds, backers, pool fans, and others get so heated up in the "who's the best" threads. The pool players themselves probably don't think twice about it, at least as much as we do here on this forum sometimes.
Every pool player has a streak when they're hitting 'em strong, some longer than others. Charlie may not be on everybody's birthday cake list, but you can't say that he doesn't have game. He can play.
