Who's the "Worst" Pro

It's sure is refreshing to read good words about Earl in his defense rather than the other way around! :smile:

I agree. Out of nothing else but respect for his game if you cant do it for anything else, he is still deserving ! I hope everyone here gets a chance to meet the Earl that I play with now, not that different but more understanding!

...the OP made it sound like there is something wrong with being from Texas.

pfff.....try saying that in Texas and see what happens.

by the way, the "pool world" is somewhat small. i'd be careful about which bridges you burn.

I am in TEXAS ,i have met EARL and hes a great person ! if only the op had the passion for this sport hed understand , my 2 cents:thumbup:

Texas is one of the better states in the nation. If you don't like one part of the state, you can drive 500 miles in any direction and find a place that you like better...and still be in Texas.

Okies and Texans have a long standing love/hate relationship...Only we get to make fun of them with impunity. (because we're better at football) :D

It's kind of like "Nobody can beat up my little brother except me!"

I think it' s clearly Earl Strickland. Seriously, he's from Texas, his Mama doesn't seem to have taught him any manners??? Decorum??? He's "behind" and then the Yak Yak starts. Can anyone here describe Earl as a "Gentleman" with a straight face??? He has "flashes in the Pan" of civility, "the sun shines on a dog's ass once in-awhile" As Daddy used to say. Certainly he has talent.
I'm thinking that anyone that supports ES is ONLY thinking about his game, which by the way isn't near best in the WORLD these days. He's pretty much a Circus Side show at this point?
He's still a real threat, but most people would like him to just go away. If you think he is "entertaining" and "good" for the game--then I think U are in the minority.

I'm afraid you only see the bad side of Earl and ignore the good. Earl spent the best part of a day in a hospital once with a critically ill young boy who had listed on a "Make A Wish Foundation" wish list that he wanted to meet Earl, the greatest nine ball player in the world. This was while Earl was a player rep with Cuetec and Earl gave the boy his personal playing cue as well as a bunch of promotional stuff like autographed balls and posters and had his picture taken with the boy.
I've known Earl for over 25 years and while I've seen him act up from time to time, it's usually because he tries so hard and people like to deliberately push his buttons and try to get him to go off! He's actually a pretty nice guy if you meet him away from the table.

Did somebody say WORST?

Many AZers probably know by now that I love Harold Worst...
..possibly the greatest all-round player ever.

Oh, this is about Earl?
Earl is in Harold's class at 9-ball.
And away from the table he is entertaining and knowledgeable on many
things.
At the table he is INTENSE...I forgive him in advance for his shortcomings..
..like many great artists, he digs deep and has no time for niceties.

Oh, this is about Texas?
Good luck bad-mouthing Texas..even my avatar is with me on this..:cool:

Well sir....Tennessee has a bit of history with Texas...Y'all took one of our native sons, barricaded him up in some taco bell lookin church, and let ole santy annie shoot hell out of him.....yessir Mr Crocket shoulda stuck to huntin bar......reckon he was one of the first border control agents though...:D

Just funnin a bit.....don't none of you steer wrasslers git yer panties in a wad now....ya hear.......Dan

damn dan thats was funny, i choked on my sandwich while reading lol.

well for not taking a stab at someone, thats exactly what you did, you called him a piss poor excuse for a HUMAN BEING. You may want to keep yourself in check. Even if he was that bad, your no better for saying it.

why keep myself in check when I have plenty of fans on here to do it for me? Honestly though, my comment about him was a little harsh. Not that I'd go out of my way to meet him, but he is/was the best at what he does and that warrants respect in some form.

@Scott Lee

please don't mind me and stick to what you do best and that is teach people how to play pool wrong. haha jk

@JAM
I take it back, babe.

The "worst" pro to me isn't Earl, but I think this thread is in bad taste.
Hmm I would tend to agree with you. I would bet you a hundred the guy has never been to Texas...... and wouldn't know an armadillo from a jack rabbit. I don't think they have those in the phillipines do they?

:rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao: That is too funny.

At this past derby city,earl was always surrounded by lots of players and fans at all times,if earl was not playing a tournament match then he was allways practiceing by him self,even while just practiceing earl drew a hugh crowd,and one after another some fan or other player would go up to earl for either an autograph or picture or for earl to sign there cue,and not once that i saw did earl ever decline anyone,he talked and shooked hands with everyone while allways having a smile on his face,so people can say all the bad they want about earl,i personaly see his good side for atleased a week straight!

What a stupid thread. I hope the modertor sees fit to delete it.

Stu, you're widely regarded as one of the best posters on this forum, and rightfully so.

Keeping that in mind, I prefer to say that there are (almost) no stupid threads, only stupid posters...You can't always let one bad apple ruin the bunch.

Some of us are easily entertained. :D

Earl has always been one of my favorite players. Up in the flat lands of Canada, we never got much in the way of televised pool. I remember one day, I was playing pool and Earls million dollar match came on tv. It was re broad casted but I stopped playing and watched it in its entirety. Even saw Earl jump on the table and do his happy dance.

If I ever make to Vegas BCA, he will be the first guy I zero in on if hes there.

Anybody that reaches the top of any sport is probaly not operating under what we'd call "normal" conditions in their heads. I've seen Earl go off, and truth was he had good reason to. People would bet against him at the Bicycle Club and then make noise and move in his sightline during matches. A true professional, in my mind, rises above all this, but taking my first statement into account, I think we have to try to give players the benefit of the doubt. I mean we are talking abot a man who got 20 or 30 games (correct me on the exact number) ahead of the "best player that ever lived" in Hong Kong. Yes, he lost that, but even in itself it is an accomplishment beyond compare.
