Looking for softshot!

I have tried drywall!

I was in the process of filming but got shut down, baby sleeping.

From the two shots I hit with drywall, it was obvious that chalk...any chalk is vastly superior to drywall.

I will try to get some video up tomorrow...

Hopefully posting some drywall shots moves me up John's waiting list :)

LOL - you can take the case maker out of the pool room but you can't the pool player out of the case maker.

I have just done a follow-up 10 minute video that's a bit more structured.

Should post in about five hours according to the progress bar on YouTube's upload meter.

Regarding drywall, "chalk" as we know it has been in use for longer than most of us have been alive. At one time there were many competing brands.

I have no doubt that Kamui has created something better than Masters chalk and better than what we think of as conventional chalk. The question really then is how much better and is it worth it? When they fail to provide quantifiable data and video proof then it's very difficult to justify. There is then a very real placebo effect created by a bubble of expectation that if it's expensive then it MUST be good.

Well I know from my own little corner of the industry that expensive does NOT equal good. It can and it should but it does not always. But a lot of people who should know better perpetuate the hype that the most expensive chocie is the best choice. I understand from a social perspective and an economic perspective why they do this.

When Kamui came out with this stuff at $25 people like Pat Johnson (committed forum suicide in NPR - tragically) were quick to vilify Kamui and burn them at the stake for DARING to charge so much. I don't agree with that stance. I think that everything should be given a chance to prove itself. Once in a while someone really does invent something that revolutionizes the world and it's not inconceivable that Kamui did this for chalk.

So now that I have it I think it's nice, goes on smooth, gives me a quieter smoother hit, feels good when I hit the ball and also stays pretty clean. But is it worth $28???

Probably not for me at the level I play pool at unless they can show me more substance. I mean I "feel" like I can get more spin with it but so far the testing really doesn't bear that out. Keep in mind that I am an average player with an average stroke.

Maybe for Mika, Shane etc.... the difference is magnified so that whatever advantage the chalk gives is a much bigger help to them.

Anyway, see the new vid in five hours or so whenever it gets all the way uploaded.

Hey JB....

Well I doubt it but any of you are free to take his place. If you think that drawing the ball with extreme spin to the spots I did it is easy with drywall then go for it.

Those miscues when you were attempting to power draw were due to stroke.

A piece of advice, don't pull the butt of the cue up as you stroke through the CB on a draw shot and you shouldn't hit so hard on a draw shot when it's straight in like that.

Just stroke straight through it below center with a medium hard shot and let the back spin do the work. When you over stroke it the spin can't bite into the felt due to all of the forward angular momentum and it takes much more back spin to get the same result. Kind of like when you use all that torque in a car to spin the tires, the car doesn't go anywhere.

The only time you want to hit a draw shot hard is when you have an angle (even a slight one) and you need the CB to follow the tangent line longer before the draw takes effect.

I agree with Jaden. Although I've been looking into getting a cube of Kamui and I'm going to try combining masters on top.

The video in my signature line I do a full length draw shot jacked up on the rail that I hit at medium speed all the back to confirm Jaden's post.

I really do feel that the Kamui gives me a little more and I think that might come through on the video.

However I COMPLETELY and TOTALLY AGREE with everyone who talks about the stroke. With a proper stroke you can do magic with just about any chalk. IF Kamui really does all that it claims then combined with a good stroke it should be the best of all worlds.

John,

I sent you an email to the one listed in your sig. Did you get it? If not please send me one to jb@jbideas.com and I will then have the right addy to send back to.

It's about rpms. The more revolutions you can put on the ball then the better your draw will be. I don't know if anyone here remembers Buzzy Harris from South Florida but he had one hell of a stroke and he would do a particular draw shot around three rails that has plagued me for 20 years.

When I would try it he'd say rpms my man rpms, gotta get the ball spinning. I have hit that shot maybe ten times in my life and nine of them were by accident.

Rafael Martinez also tried to show me this but I could never really get it. Consequently I have struggled all my life to find the right amount of rpms. And it ain't coming from beating the balls into the felt. :-)

Nice little video BTW. Very smooth.

Here ya go John and SoftShot!! New product that just came out. Now you can really compare.

(No offense intended to either parties, just trying to add a little levity!)

Tell us JB why you moved to china. (to build pool cases)

Those who exploit them, treat them as little more than slaves- completely disposable tools for making money- disposable people. Tony sends his best- send money. Its an interesting look your flaring nostrils on the video's. What causes that narrowing ? About the azbuild off cue case !! - remember all your ( quote testing - everyone's case against yours. Too Bad your own case had leather punctures in the top from Just sending it in the mail. I'd hate to see what happened if it really fell from the counter- Ps I spent like 75.bucks to send it First class Air mail - not ground! I think the American Made Silver Fox cases are truely ( great cases for the money) compared with your over priced(chinese vinyl cases. But hey everyone just talk the talk- and let JB send you all some free stuff.- because if he smells money ( he will).!! buy your friendship. Eat a bird for breakfast(if ya can locate 1 JB

Dude, seriously, lay off the crack. Whatever it is that you are smoking it's really frying your brain. Save up some money and invest in some good quality drugs and then your stream of consciousness rants will be clearer.

I ask you if you have ANYTHING to contribute to the actual topic we are discussing and you continue with nonsensical character attacks on me and attacks on my products.

So go on and get it all out troll. Apparently you have been wanting to lay into me for some time.

Man some people are just weird.

Thanks for posting this experiment John. Did you use paper hole reinforcements to make sure you positioned the balls exactly at the same place for each shot?

It appeared to me that the set up position between the balls varied particularly on this shot at 8:31 where you said the cueball went to the 3rd diamond.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekGhSBJGmSU&feature=player_detailpage#t=510s

Based on my own testing and watching your videos I still don't believe Kamui chalk is worth the price ($25+)for the perceived improvements.

If it were marketed in the same price range as Blue Diamond I might consider it but even at that price i'm not sure it performs better than Masters.

I don't think Tweeten has anything to worry about. Thanks again for putting your tests on video.

The thing that impressed me about Kamui...

Yes JB's miscues were due to stroke and execution, but the thing that got me was that he didn't rechalk after the miscues...

I don't think I've EVER NOT rechalked after a miscue. Also, chalking is just too ingrained into my pre-shot routine for me to be able to get the true advantage out of Kamui chalk..

Just watching JB's video made me squirm in my chair like when you're watching a scary movie and you're trying to will the characters to not be so dumb... Not saying that you were dumb JB.

I kept wanting to will JB to use some more chalk because it's so ingrained into my psyche....

How much per cube ;)???

Maniac

Due to the rise in Hurricanes in the last few year I had to raise the price some. But for you Maniac, I will let it go for 3 easy payments of $99.99 per cube. Minimum purchase of 24 cubes of course ;)
