You don't have to understand the commentary to witness the excitement in this Mosconi Cup.

If only American television would allow whoever films these Mosconi Cups to broadcast it on American TV, it would elevate pool to a new level.

I cannot understand the commentary here, but, man, it sure is exciting to watch.

I don't understand why they pitted our American players against snooker players, but Alex Higgins is a hoot.

Check it out: 1995 Mosconi Cup.

"Robert" Hunter is a hunk. Eye candy for the ladies. :smile2:

I love, love, love the vests for Team USA.

I really enjoyed watching this video. I wish somebody who speaks Russian would interpret it. There's a Statue of Liberty in the pit, along with a fire hydrant in red, white, and blue, and the front grill of an American 1957 Chevrolet.

Watch this 1995 Mosconi Cup when you have time. It's really cool

Love this interview of Alex Higgins and Jimmy White talking about their lack of knowledge in 9-ball rules. They talk about first time they met Mike Massey, and Alex again is so fun to listen to. This is a great interview.

This interview was taken on site at the Mosconi Cup in 1995.

Nice. Goddarnit I was going to quit eveything that has to do with pool for a while...but I'll start after watching this.

And yes we need to push for less of the crappy stale pool style being shown and more of tuff like this. Get to it Jam! We counting on you.

Thanks Jennie!
And just a somber, but respectful remembrance of Alex Higgins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZetGdNVIp64&feature=related

Time waits for no man.

Jimmy and Alex look on drugs during the interview lol... notice how they can't stay still on the chairs.

Well of course there is a possibility of that, however they are both high stung people and 2 of the fastest snooker players ever (Drago is up there too) So I think its more likley that its adrenaline and high strung maybe a couple of beers too :)

I have footage of the Mosconi Cup going back to the beginning.
Tell me what you want and I will send it to you.

If there is only one event that TV should actually show live on TV it is the Mosconi Cup. It had the short races, the patriotism of rooting for the home team, it showcases 10 of the top players in the world, and it is the ONLY tournament in the world where the crowds are large and noisy and make pool seem exciting.

Mosconi Cup pool, live with all of it's drama could garner a few more fans for this sport and would probably be pretty popular TV for a pub to have on while it's patrons drink beer.

ESPN 13 or whatever obscure channel down there list should be buying the rights to live broadcast, and for the first year or two that right should be basically free from Matchroom to ESPN as it is mutually beneficial to simply get the thing on LIVE TV and start to get a larger following.

<edit>I am going to have to add, Jimmy White could have probably been the best pool player on the planet. His game actually reminds me alot of Mosconi's, fast and dead accurate with a very quick mind with regards to the patterns and keeping the game simple. Had he specialized in it he would have been a 9-ball, 10-ball, and straight pool world champ I am guessing. If he had specialized in pool he is one player that might have actually had a higher top speed then even Earl.

Mosconi's accomplishments are IMO at least the level of Earl's. You are welcome to disagree I guess.

watch carefully!!!!

In the second game when they give it to white/higgins that supposed two nine carom was a bad hit, it hit the nine first...

rdit: the slow motion showed that it wasn't oh well...

Alfredo de Oro was no slouch either, since he won more World Championships than Mosconi.

Bob ... I believe your mistaken if Wikipedia is corrent. De Oro won 11 Pocket Billiard Championships and 3 Carom Championships, and Willie won
15 World Pocket Billiard Championships.

From the BCA Hall of Fame citation:
The career of the distinguished Spanish champion ALFREDO DeORO encompassed both Three-Cushion and Pocket Billiards and spanned the closing decades of the 19th century and the opening decades of the 20th. DeOro, who served in his country's diplomatic corps, first gained the Pocket Billiard crown in 1887. He was to repeat the achievement 16 times in the next 25 years. DeOro held the Three-Cushion title 10 times from 1908 through 1919. In 1934, at the age of 71, DeOro came out of retirement for a Championship Tournament, winning two dramatic victories from defending champion Welker Cochran and the ultimate winner of the tournament, Johnny Layton.
I'm not sure how to count that, but it seems to be larger than 14 or 15.

They have a full bar on the side with a guy doing bottle juggling. The European players have cigarettes in their mouths having a blast. Snooker vs Pool, it doesn't get much better than this.
