I live in Tally Florida and we don't have a real stand alone shop. Wondering if there are nice ones out there and what they are like. Would love to visit one if it is located between Atlanta and Orlando.

So how do people look at cues and other items? Is everything online shopping? Somewhat sad if you ask me.

That is the kind of World we live in, at this point.

How would you like it if you were a store with 50 different McDermotts in stock and a guy came in and wanted to buy a Schon? (no, your jedi sales tricks don't work on this guy).

It just costs too much to have a store full of things you hope to sell.

We have a store called best Quailty Billiards in Lakewood Co. Full service place. They sell tables-cues balls and all the stuff that gos with them. Full cue repair and table service.

Nice place..right up the road from Casa Bonita... Wasn't there also a place that had high end cues closer to Table Stakes? I remember trying out Herceks, Blacks, AE's and a few other really sweet cues but don't remember the name. Setup was similar to Qualities and it was a standalone store in a mini mall but was a smaller shop or is that place gone too?

For the OP...if you want to find a place to try cues check out the pool halls in your area that may have some stock of custom and productions cues as well as table/game/swimming pool stores that sell and repair. Those are usually your best bet for trying to find a variety of cues in a brick and mortar location.

I've only known of a handful of stores across the country that used to carry a variety of cues to try. You can always try to hit a pro tourney in your area. Usually tournaments have a nice following of cue dealers and makers setup to sell their wares.

If you want to go a bit further South to Melbourne, Aurora Road Billiards has an extensive inventory of cues and assessories. They have been around a long time. I used to order wholesale from them all the time and they pretty much always had what I wanted in stock. I have also been in their store so I know it is a retail establishment as well.

there are not very many stand alone billiard supply stores around . as the previous poster you may have to resort to game supply stores although they usually sell lower end cues. you may have luck at some pool halls. most pool halls around here have a limited selection of cues.

we do have 1 billiard supply store here in memphis. they sell olhausen tables, a good selection of cues and cases and all other supplies you need, EVEN KAMUII CHALK !

they also offer cue and table repair.

it is called billiard pro supply.

Best Quailty Billiards has moved farther west on Colfax Ave 2 times since you remember,
and I do not know of the other place. I was out of the state for quite awhile.

We will open a shop here in Hurst really soon (Dallas/Arlington/Fort Worth area).

I want to make it the nicest pro shop in the world.

I'm over in St. Augustine and I know how you feel.

I guess I got spoiled growing up in Pittsburgh. We had West Penn Billiards and Saunier Wilhelm (Saunier Wilhelm now gone sadly). I used to go just to look at cues. Then you could stop by Paul Mottery's shop. If you wanted to drive to the other end of the state there was Szamboti.........

I know there are cue people around here. I ran into a couple at the flea markets and we exchanged info. Sadly, both of them were just trying to sell and were WAY over- priced. One because he thought I was a sucker, the other because he had no idea what he had. Another I ran into was a dealer of new cues but had no storefront.

I went to see a cue maker/repair guy that was operating down in Daytona according to his web site and when I got there his shop had been closed for months. Drove down for nothing.

I stopped by a local pool hall asking about repairs. The owner calls a guy, I don't get to talk to him. He won't give any prices. Drop it off, he picks up on Thursdays, he'll let you know......... Yeah right. Ain't happening. The whole reason I went there was to get eyeball to eyeball with the guy who would touch my cue.

I am a little saddened by these things. Brunswick tables aren't made here anymore. I only recently found out about Diamond tables. Mottey retired. Saunier Wilhelm closed. Fellini ended up in a storage locker. People are gushing about cues that are made in the same Asian factory as cues they tell me should be thrown in the trash and they don't even know it. All they know is that some guy on the pro tour used one or uses one or might have been seen near one.

Yeah, I've been away from the game too long.

Whether you call it a "pro shop" or not, I want a place to go. I don't have one right now. There is a pool room three minutes from where I work and I have been there maybe three times in three years. It just does not "feel" like a pool hall for some reason. Probably has a lot to do with the guy that stood behind me the first time I was there. He said "you didn't hit that right". Made me want to practice a couple weeks and come back and take all his money. Yeah, I'm rusty, but I don't really care, it feels good to hit balls. I think the rude SOB was the owner.

If you find any place South of you or in general in my direction let me know. It's hard for me to make time to get very far, I am very busy with work these days, but I will try to go if there is someplace worth going.

Seybert's Billiard Supply Store in MI.
