Sales / Wanted rules Update

I agree with an Ebay section, or even an ebay sticky, that allows you to post a ONE time link to your auction. No bumping.
Ebay sticky is the way to go, or something like the old raffle section. Even if they bump to their hearts content, at least it wont push wanted and for sale threads further and further down. This situation is not a big deal and everyone can be satisfied with a little work.

I still disagree with the private sale thing. If it's for sale and you want 40k then post it. If the "elite joeblow collector" is interested he sends a PM saying I'll give you 35k or I'll take it, and the seller edits the thread, removes the price and marks it sold. How the heck does anybody know who bought it or what they paid?

Now, I do not believe that this rule change was directed at Kevin but it does effect him. In the past he has offered cues and such for sale here before an auction begins and nothing is stopping him from doing that in the future. The forum has a lot of b.s. bumps and over priced items but there were a lot of linked auctions also not just Kevin. I enjoy Kevins listings as much as anybody (his descriptions and pictures are top notch) but nobody is preventing him from selling here........the rule is not to link an eBay auction to it. Once he lists a cue on eBay it's not for sale here anymore anyway so it's really not that big of a deal. The way I see it, it's the powers that be in AZ land asking the people here to not use their site as free advertising for other sites.

On a side note, the link that Mr. Wilson provided also states a one bump per day rule.

Become a club member

Some of the watch forums charge a fee to list watches for sale. If someone is selling anything that they are asking more than lets say 500.00 they should be required to become a club member and the membership would allow them to sell items of that nature for one year.

Gosh I hope its OK for me to say this as there does seem to be some folks (besides myself) that have an interest in discussing this change of policy. For my purposes, a separate section for auction sales listings would be a fine workaround to the "problem".

Funny thing is, I didn't know there was a problem, as I said, I've basically been doing it this way since I sold the big Szam on eBay 5 years ago and only one member has ever complained to me about listing my auctions in the For Sale section and he suggested his own fix which was to block me, which seemed like a solid solution. I've had zero complaints from the mods regarding it.

I would like to point out that the fixes people have come up with in discussion are just that, discussion. The only real change that has been made here is that eBay auction links are no longer allowed in the For Sale section. Dave apparently disagreed with my wanting to discuss it openly and pointed out that they were "working on it" as if I should have known that somehow. All I saw was the new rules, and really, that's all there is (so far). How I should have known there was a fix in the works beyond the rules that came down from on high is completely beyond me.

I've always liked the aspect of AZ where we kinda try to police our own community, use peer pressure to make people do what we think is right and sort of shape how this place operates. I've always been very vocal in expressing my opinion of how things go, and really, I think I've been very community spirited in my efforts. I felt a little blindsided my a blanket decision that directly affects how I operate in my community when the people that made the decision had never once indicated they had a problem with the way I was conducting myself.

Anyway, thanks for the support and another section just for auctions would be great. I really can't see putting my auction links in the Gallery or the General Forums as being what AZ had in mind when they decided no links in For Sale. I think Gallery is kinda pure for showing stuff off and I think making it a commerce Forum would kind of hurt it. And posting items for sale in the general forum when we have a for sale forum just seems a little silly.

If the problem with the For Sale section is that it is too full of stuff, I'm a little skeptical that stopping eBay link posts will help that. I know I do it, maybe 2 or 3 items in a busy week, and I bump them like once a day. There's really not too many other guys that do it, how many threads are we going to save in the For Sale section with the ban? But maybe the "problem" is something else.

Thanks again

Kevin

My 2 cents worth. I really like seeing Kevin's auctions and I hope there is a way I can continue to see them through AZ forum--which I think its the greatest thing in the world!!!

Hi Mr. Wilson,

I do agree that posting ebay links to cue that you're not listing yourself should be removed but I don't understand how not allowing seller to reference their ebay listing would help the for sales/wanted forum? If anything it would added security to the purchaser as the seller would have been vetted on ebay especially if they have a long history with feedback as well as Itrader history on AZ.

If the ebay link doesn't belong to you then don't list it on AZ, if it does I do not see any reason why the link can't be reference?

Regards,
Duc.

I will ask Mike about the raffle section.

However, posting eBay links in the sales area doesn't help us here.

Thank you guys. The support in this thread and in PM is truly touching. I love this place too. I have since day one (I was selling the Szam on eBay, it was Wednesday and the cue was at like $38,000, a neighbor had Googled Gus Szamboti and the AZ thread in reaction to my eBay auction came up...he was all "they are talking about your cue on this site!!!!!") I really appreciate the supportive words. AZ has always felt like a community to me and this morning it felt more like that schoolroom when the teacher was making a decision "for the good of all" that felt directed unfairly at me. Like most of us, I'm always curious about what stuff actually sells for and I post my eBay auction as much to show and support the value of collectable cues as it is to pimp my sale.

Anyway, thanks that feels great,

Kevin

We have edited the rules to include sales that are from an outside source, meaning eBay or other auction / raffles.
Some consistency on links outside this forum would be ideal.
Links in general can take us to malicious sites and I prefer to have the entire description and pictures of items of interest right here within the forum.
Also prefer not to be taken to a dealers site at all to obtain the full description or more images of a cue.
If it is for sale on the forum, do your best to advertise it completely.
So if links to dealer sites is allowed, a link to an e-bay auction may fall under the same guideline.

As for prices, I personally would prefer to see the asking price within a thread to see if it is even worthwhile chasing.
I know of many dealer who run pictures around to contacts to see if interest is there for a particular cue and most come back to the forum after exhausting their contacts.
The asking price is always negotiable so why not post it.

Just a couple of thoughts...
And I am always looking to upgrade my gems.

Kevin

I really enjoy all your sales and auctions.
Always love the great details and the images.
Hopefully some mutual agreements and standard rules may apply.

Looking forward to your next item.

I like the idea that the OP can only bump once per day after someone else comments in their thread.
A thread with 100-200 views and no interest should remain buried.

I see VERY few links to eBay posted here,However I see alot of JUNK posted for sell here by REGISTERED USERS not MEMBERS and Dave are you sayin AZ has 34,000+ MEMBERS? I read a post that most Members BUY $300-$2000 Cues I SAY BULL I have 33 cues and I doubt 3 fall in that Range!Seems Kevin being a MEMBER should be able to list his LINK to EBAY... Why should the MEMBERS step aside for the USERS which are FAR GREATER than REGISTERED USERS.Funny how the USERS are the ones posting WE should do this WE should do that, I think WE should JOIN or not have the same VOICE as MEMBERS... AZ is not what it once was in 2006 it seems to be RAN BY USERS! Quite fitting description I must add REGISTERED USER telling MEMBERS what WE can DO! Ron

But you're not "seeing it here" - you're seeing a link. That's it.

RE: there's 18K cues listed on Ebay, how do I find Kevins if they're not listed here??

Go to EBAY, Advanced Search, New Listing by JoeMamma (seller) listed in Category Cues, check Notify Me via email.

Done.

Whenever JoeMamma lists a new cue on EBAY, you will be notified via email.

You don't even have to look for his Thread or countless bumps on AZ.

And when he lists his Rolls Royce, you won't be notified. Only cues.

Can even filter by price, range, description (i.e. MEUCCI), etc.

My 2 cents worth. I really like seeing Kevin's auctions and I hope there is a way I can continue to see them through AZ forum--which I think its the greatest thing in the world!!!

Without Kevin (kvinbrwr) posting a link to his e-bay auction here on AZ, I would have never found the cue of my dreams.....Thanks Kevin, I still owe you a beer or two.

If its not forsale HERE and I cant buy it HERE then it shouldn't be HERE. Let me just say this and it is not directed toward any poster here but can be true for some but ebay is just one big scam. Its all about shill bidding when you get into these high priced cues and billiard items. These cues are bid up by there buddies until the price of the item is where they want it and if not the item is suddendly relisted saying the buyer backed out. Case in point was a large group of fellini case parts on ebay that were sold and then not sold. Take what you want from that example but that happens alot. When ebay started to hide the Id of bidders it only encouraged this practice because before you could see the same group of people bidding up the same sellers items. I would never buy a high end cue on ebay again. This is why I perfer az because you can deal directly with seller straight up. Another sub forum would be great for those who use ebay. And its not only links Mr Wilson was trying to fix in this forsale/wanted section its also the happy birthdays, cue shows, what is it worth, look what I found BS that has become common now. I dont think he was directly trying to hurt Kevin and those who also use this section in ways other than selling or buying. And i would bet the house any serious cue buyer here on az doesn't miss one great cue thats posted on ebay when its forsale there. :)

Our policy has always been to try and list something here first, at least 24-48 hours before we put it on the site. As a courtesy to AZ members to have a first shot. Sometimes it requires a link to a picture, that maybe uploaded to our server.

I said most Members, I didn't say all. ( I should of probably said users) My post was in response to CFrandy saying most people come here to buy $200 production cues.
