Will the Team USA ever win another mosconi cup?

I;m not sure anything is broken in the world of USA pool, just too easy to make a buck in vertually ANYTHING else you put your mind to.....I think since the advent of the internet learning possibilities....the rest of the universe caught up and passed us.

The rest of the world loves the game like we do......but they don't look down on it like a fart in church!

It's a promotion by a European promoter for the European market, do you think they really want the American team to win? Europeans are in quasi-control of the team and choice of captain, well I say poppycock!

This is the whole reason we fought the Revolutionary War people!!! We fought for our independence, AND NEED I REMIND YOU, WE WON!!! We as a people don't want anyones thumb on our head whether it be taxing our tea or who plays on the Mosconi Cup team.... May as well have the Queen of England choose the f'ing team. Its hard to have a ton of American pride in something Europeans have their finger in. How would the Revoltionary War turned out if Europeans would have chose which of us would fight against the Brits???

Let a group of triple smart Americans pick the Mosconi Cup team and captain next year and see how the Europeans like it.....

Eh? I don't think you understand. All Americans had a chance to qualify themselfs for the Mosconi Cup. Matchroom didn't pick any of them.

Lets be a little realistic here; Matchroom is not just picking the worst US players to put on the team. Everyone on the team was at the top of the points list for qualifying events.

Although it doesn't appear to be our strongest team, how can you argue with the logic of taking the top people on the points list?

No Kev, you're wrong. Putnam, Mike and SVB earned auto picks, Archer and Morris were picked by Matchroom. Then CW was brought in as captain. The captain spot should be voted on by Americans well before the team is decided, just like the Ryder Cup in golf. Then the captain decides who fills the wild card spots.

They were all auto picked, Matchroom decided not to hand out any WCs and just let the top 5 qualified players (both teams) play.

Well, the qualifying events is biased and BS. 7 US events and 4 world events? How fair is that to the US players that don't travel overseas? Plus, 4 of the 7 US events draw a decent to huge international coningents (US Open 9 Ball, Ultimate 10 Ball, US Open 10 Ball, and Masters). So essentially, 7 of the 11 events are against world class fields. And not all US players play in even the 7 "US" events.... Oh, who decides which events qualifies the US team? Ohhhh, Matchroom, thats who....

I've never been a big Rodney Morris fan but his little tirade during the doubles match won me over.... He's got the USA fire burning in his belly and thats what our whole squad needs. Who's supposed to pump them up and get that fire burning? The captain. Think our captain this year has that USA fire burning in his belly? Well, he just got back from China where he represented South Korea and doesn't have one speck of US patriotism burning in his belly, he's just there to pick up his pay check and a piece of the few others pay checks that he represents.

How many Americans, Canadian, Fillipinos, Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwanese play in any of these Euro Tour events? None? Maybe two or three?

Euro Tour Events to qualify for the European squad

Portugal Open 28-30 October

Spanish Open 2-4 December

French Open 10-12 February

Italian Open 14-16 April

Austrian Open 7-9 July

German Open 25-27 August

Mosconi cup breaking

Are you actually watching the same cup as me, or are you just blindly repeating Raj's words. Because the US broke way better on the day 1 and day 2. Yesterday Europe had the edge breaking, as well as in all other aspects.
.

I only watched 2 hours on day 1 and less on day 2.
Was in audience when I did watch ans was there most of day 3 and am watching day 4.

I went to York hall last year. I encourage you to ask around.
Last year the USA got manhandled on the break.
And that is how I see it this year.

EuroTour uses this break all year long. USA needs to practice this style of breaking. It seems we are breaking somewhat better today - but from my point of view, the Europeans break better and have better results thanusa.

Not even sure what the comment about raj even means. And not sure what it has to do with anything.

Indeed, it is not Matchroom's fault that Corey Deuel decided to become a golfer instead of a pool player.

Yeah, Rodney was a great addition to the team this year, he is exactly what they need in order to lose 11-3 given the way he played in that last match instead of getting to 7.

What the USA NEEDS is players like SVB who play full time professional pool, players who DO go to all of the international events and compete on the world stage against the best players the game has to offer. What the USA does not need is more part time glorified amature players who play 2 or 3 truly major world class events, solely in the USA, and sending them in to compete against battle hardened world class players who DO travel to ALL of the major events each year and play full time pool against the best players in the world.

It was SVB that dragged the USA back into this thing and gave them hope, he won the game to get them from 4 wins to 5, and then he won the match that got them to 6, Archer managed to win an ugly bloody set with Darren where he got a boatload of second chances, and from there and then the USA lost with 7 total wins.

SVB is the SOLE reason the USA went from 4 wins to 6, he single handedly brought his team back into the thing in singles matches and they managed to win a whopping 1 more match for him due as much to Darren missing tons of shots as Archer shooting anything close to good.

You're north of the border, stick to commenting on the Canadian team buddy......

You could use Alex and Klatt to give your team a little more power. Better hope to see the Mosconi Cup become North America vs Europe or you are in for alot of "silver" medals, also know as "participation awards".

I personally know a couple of Eskimos that can play pretty well too.
And not the Edmonton Eskimos either.

But seriously, I hope after Shawns less than stellar performance, he never sees fit to make another comment about Earl. The Euro crowd might be able to drive Earl crazy but at least he can handle the pressure on the table.

Alex could take on Team Europe all by his self.

Seems to me they get shit done and would finally get the dog out of team usa... Oh yeah, make that shit winner break and make the races longer. Short races are for *****es lol.

Good idea, make the Mosconi Cup selection more like the Ryder Cup, that'll solve your problem .................oh wait, we've won the Ryder Cup 4 out of the last 5 times as well

The Euorpeans don't have anything to complain about the system.... Its severely flawed for the USA. Thats a fact.

The USA will win one of these Mosconi Cups, but they will be underdogs for many years to come unless America stops living in denial about the state of its professional play. The American professional playing community has been focusing on tweaking the game, the rules, and the equipment to suit themselves. As Jay Helfert has often said, no matter the equipment, no matter the rules, no matter the length of race, the cream rises to the top in competition. The same guys, for the most part, will win.

The worst part of what's going on with American pool is the relative absence of any young players who look like future world beaters. Shane is one of the greats already, Mike Dechaine looks like a very solid young player, and I'm impressed with what I've seen of John "Hennessee" Pinegar, but not many young American players are wowing me right now. I remember watching the 19 year old Earl Strickland, the 18 year old Allen Hopkins, and the 23 year old Mike Sigel. Despite their youth, each of them could take on virtually all comers way back when. Where are the young Americans who can do the same? Only Shane qualifies.

The American system is not producing many premier players anymore and the reasons nees to be studied. Time honored methods for instruction, practice, and preparation need to be reviewed, critiqued, and where necessary, revised, if we're ever to catch up with Europe and Asia. If it is broken, fix it!

Good posting !

But in my opinion an event like the Mosconi is something, where you really have to prepare for. What is a fact is, that in the last 2-3 years some europeans came up really strong. If we just look at the U.K. - Appleton, Boyes, Preach, Melling-and they have some other canons sleeping there under the radar. I m sure there will come some more for sure.
The germans still have *their* champions- netherlands also.

But the bandwidth all in all in my opinion still speaks for the USA. They have so many good players-much more than the europeans. They re just totally organized (let me call it so^^) different.

We re just talking here about USA and Europe. If we would have a look over the edge towards Asia....brrrrrr. There are so many unbelievable players, the most of us would be scared about the potential overthere.

To be back on topic: The following Mosconi will always be a thrill. Here the willing counts, the team spirit-and how you prepare for it. Noone can say, that the USA would have the *less skilled* players, that would be wrong and too easy.
For me they just were not able to handle the pressure- And in the next Mosconi they will come back stronger.
When both teams starting with *their strones line up* it will be always a trhilller and a 50/50 chance for both. Paperwork doesn t count here.

The 2nd day and the begin of the 3rd day shown clearly, that the USA have great champs-- this year the teaam Europe was just stronger. This happens in every sport.

I enjoyed this year really much by watching it, and really lookin forward for next year.

a smooth stroke for all,

Ingo
