This was a great night at the TAR Studio. 7:15 Part 1 is Classic.

Yes, I had a blast there, I almost booked a flight for TAR 24 just on the merit of the after-parties alone. And yeah, I had to add that quote to my sig.

I booked a flight on Dec. 18th to go to TAR 24. I found out Tuesday at work that I can't go due to some new projects.:bash::banghead:

That would be great if Joe Rogan could pull something off like he said about following Earl around with a camera and record his life for just 30 days and at some tournaments. It would be a hell of a reality show << ED:cool:

" I sat there for 3 hour watching them kick a stupid white ball and never score", Classic, got'a love Earl.

Priceless!

I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard.

I am a fan of Earl Strickland though I can understand why people take issue with him.

Earl's absolutely right about some of the things he's saying.

That was absolute entertainment better than watching a netflix movie.

Thanks for sharing.

Earl holding court can be described in two words.

Brilliantly insane.

Someone whom I met a while back that I know has been around Earl a good bit described him best. They said he is like a savant where he is absolutely brilliant at pool, but lacking in social situations. No I will not say who told me this....it's just something that stuck in my head about him.

EARL FOR PRESIDENT! I don't care what anyone says about Earl, I'd rather listen to him and watch him than ANY other pool player.

Reminds me of the old Billy Joel song, "You May Be Right".

"You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for"

Some people call him crazy, some may call him a lunatic...but HE is the ONLY "lunatic" that draws in the crowds and excites the crowds. Whether you like him or not is another story.

Pool as a spectator sport in the U.S. will NEVER get off the ground if you are going to have all the players dress up in fancy clothes and sit around all quiet and proper like a bunch of old women at an English tea party. Pool needs "excitement"...you got to add a bit of Jerry Springer, or WWF, to it to get people to watch it.

I have played pool my whole life and it is still my favorite participant sport because I have dedicated most of my life to learning and playing it. However, I will be the first to say that the "average" American thinks pool to watch is "BORING" and they don't have a clue one about the game...other than knocking some balls around maybe on a bar table somewhere.

I don't know "what" if anything can cause a rise in pool popularity in the U.S. because today's youth had rather play video games than play pool. The only way to bring kids back into the pool rooms is to entice them in with some sort of entertainment, OTHER than the pool game itself. Once they are inside, then you need to concentrate on getting them involved in pool and keeping them interested.

I live in a city with approximately one million people and there is but one "real" pool hall and it is completely vacant for the most part of the day. It is only at night when they have music or a band in the back area that people start coming in the place...then the tables get full.

If it wasn't for the fact that they started selling alcohol a few years back, I'm sure this place would have already closed down.

My favorites from Earl's lecture:

"This is real funny bunch of people on this planet. Wish I could find another planet."

"I'll shoot your liver out and hand it to you."

"I've got more talent in my little finger than every sport in this whole world's got."

"Money can't buy what I've got -- character and talent."

"I don't like too many people in pool. He's the only guy I like, I think. I don't know why, I just like him." [speaking of Shane]

"My ass looks better than Kim Kardashian's."

"The women on TV are phonier than a three-dollar bill."

"You guys don't know who I am, really. I ain't here for your reasons, I'm here for pool, period. I'm like some kind of messenger, or something. And I'm going to die broke. It doesn't matter what I am. Long as I've got the ability to keep running my mouth and shooting balls in, I'll make a difference."

[on soccer] "If you put toothpicks on my eyes to hold them up and held a gun to my head, my hands tied, I'd beg you to shoot me if I had to watch it. ... That's how boring it is."

[on ESPN and pool] "ESPN comes in and films it, and you know what it looks like? The Blair Witch Project."

One of the smartest men on the planet (Rogan) having a "discussion" with one of the dumbest (Earl) and trying to make sense of it all. CLASSIC!

thank you for posting that. listening to earl's rants are amazing. one minute he is making sense than the next he is telling you how his azz is better than a womans, incredible!

Earl should do standup.

Dam straight.

I'd be sharked out playing him just from thinking of this skit and laughing.

"After the cowboys got done fighting they played pool"...classic

Pool is putting every time you hit the ball, but with spin.

Guess I'll dissent.

Where's the fascination in a man that has blanket disrespect for those who play his sport and similarly rejects those in other sports as well as their sports? This man is mentally ill, and rather than laughing at him, I'll just wish him better times. It's sad for both him and pool when his pathetic act away from the table draws laughs.

On the table, he's one of the all time greats. Off the table, it's another story.
If reality TV's next stop is to institutionalize and capitalize on the mockery of the mentally ill, then these are sad times we live in.

Good luck, Earl, in pool and in life.

"Where's the fascination in a man that has blanket disrespect for those who play his sport and similarly rejects those in other sports as well as their sports?"

I agree sjm, he does have some downside to his commentary for sure.

But........he makes some very accurate comments about how ESPN covers pool, the best one was his last of the 3rd clips.

Earl says..."When ESPN covers pool it looks like the Blair Witch Project" That's funny and sadly true.
