poolhalljunkie in this thread mentioned he put artemis on his gold crown2 based on quality and longevity and donny's recommendation
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=260358

does everyone agree with this???
what is the difference???

also which artemis???

superspeed is k-55 and one version of artemis is k-66 the intercontinental is k-55
what does this mean??
and can i put a k-66 to replace a k-55??

i also have a gold crown 2 that needs new rails and the person i work with mentioned superspeed as the top of the line and did not mention artemis

thanks for any comments you can provide to help clear this up for me

Not a mechanic but,
I know of a local pool hall which had Gold Crown 4.
Within two years, they had several tables with hardened Superspeed.:yikes:

K-66 does not fit Gold Crown tables right .
I went with Artemis K55 on mine.

The Artemis Intercontinental K55 cushions are the best cushions I've ever used to date, which is just another reason Diamond uses them on all their 9ft tables.

Have you ever come across Manhattan cushions , Glen ?
Some are still floating around in the Philippines ( AMF-Puyat tables ) and they are very coveted there.

I've come across manhattan cushions many times, and almost every time, they were in surprisingly good condition considering their age. I kinda wish they were still around.

Were they better than the Monarch ?

Donny of SD Billiards set up my table and I went with his recommendation to use the Artemis Intercontinental #66 for my GC and am very happy. I was at his shop and he showed me the bare cushions along with the superspeeds and they just look like a way better cushion to my untrained eye. The Artemis are even serial numbered.

My understanding is that you would not want to use K66 profile rubber on a table designed for K55 cushions.

Keep in mind one thing I find confusing; the Artemis Intercont #66 cushion is a K55 profile. I don't know why they numbered it like that but they did.

Can you save old ones?

Are the old cushions damaged/destroyed in removal when new ones are installed?

(Example older GCII-cushion 'upgrade' to Artemis intercontinental #66)

I'm guessing you mess them up in removing them.

When Glen did my table in November, he put on the Artemus Intercontinental cushions. These cushions give superspeeds the six.

From what I'm understanding, if you have superspeed cushions, and desire Artemis 55 or 66, you will have to modify the rails. I say this because any dimension I've compared doesn't match the superspeed profile...close but no match. I'm trying to determine if I'm correct in this line of thinking since it may be cost prohibitive to go to a better cushion because the superspeed is its own profile. I've got one junk cushion on the table I just bought and if the cushions gotta be replaced I would rather go with Artemis if its not too involved for whomever I can find to do the work. I would love to hear any opinions since I've not really found much information on this subject.
Thanks!
Todd

The experts will confirm this cuz I'm not a mechanic, but my understanding is that superspeeds (at least the ones that go on Gold Crowns) are K55 profile. The Arteimis Intercon #66 cushion is also K55 profile so there should be no problem. In fact when I had my Gold Crown set up I had the Artemis #66 installed and I do not believe the mechanic had to modify the rails to do so.

Hopefully Donny, RKC, or one of the other guys will either confirm this or tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.

Well that is good hear!

"Location: Left Coast".....That actually made me laugh as I'd never heard that one before!
It has been a few years since I've played, hope to be as bad as I used to be: I could make a game of 9 ball last a half an hour, but I always had fun!

Yes, both are a K55 profile cushion.

What part of Indiana are you in? Depending on your area, myself or Jack Zimmerman (JZmechanic) should be able to help you in replacing your rubber and recovering the table.

GC1's & 2's have a factory sub-rail width of 7/8" from the Formica finish to the down angle edge of where the cushion meets the top of the sub-rail. The width of the sub-rail + the width of the monarch cushions being almost 1 1/8" gives you a span of 2", which is correct to maintain the playing surface at 50"X100". If the sub-rail width is not corrected, installing todays K55 cushions being 1 1/4" the playing surface is going to shrink by 1/4" in width, and 1/4" in length. So, though some mechanic's will install todays K profile cushions on the older GC's....they're doing it because it pays, not because it's right;)

Hello Josh-
I am just south-southwest of Indianapolis, 30 min south of interstate 70. I can make it to Dayton pretty quickly, been there for the ham radio festival before. Also went a little further east and north for the "Mid-Ohio sportscar course". I am in no real rush to get this done as I'm doing alot of remodling right now. Possibly in May? I would like to meet with you and see if you wanted any changes made to the rails as I am dissapointed with some of the work on them, though it may amount to nothing. I can be reached @ 3 1 7 945 5 6 0 8 from 6:30 am EST onward. I certainly want to use Simonis 860 blue tourn. cloth glued down if possible.

Hey Glen-
Thanks for taking the time to respond...this is a 2001 Greenbriar home table. Do not know if that makes a difference or not...If I had the cash I rather get a new Diamond table but cheap-ass (economy model) used Brunswick home table will have to do for now!!!
Thanks to all who responded!
Todd
