New Social Networking Group: Host A Pro (Pool Player) On The Road

Hi Folks!
Introducing a new networking Facebook Group for 'Hosts' and 'Players' all over the world.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/hostapro/

In the interest of defraying costs to traveling professional pool players, as well as the promotion of the sport of competitive pool in all forms, this group was created.

Host a Pro on the Road seeks to identify traveling professional pool players who wish to attend certain events and defray their travel costs, by lodging with local pool players and pool fans, and in return offering exhibition, training, or just hanging-out services in return.

Conversely, this group seeks to identify and qualify potential hosts for these traveling pro players, and the corresponding needs and opportunities for exhibitions, classes, and events to appear.

It may be the case that the only requirement of success is simply to match up pro players with a host, and this group can serve as a forum for discussion for pool events nationwide.

No facebook, but....

I'm fortunate enough that my job allows me to telecommute. With a 4G hotspot and an extended battery, I can be anywhere, anytime, and work a full shift. For some time now, I've been kicking around the idea of finding a road player, and splitting expenses while travelling. I may never obtain the skill level required to travel and play on the road, but I'd at least like to experience it, even if its just as a spectator. I'm currently invested in a project at home, but in about 3 months, this would be a definite possibility. If that time frame works for any road warriors out there, PM me!

I'd be on a beach somewhere tropical.

This is done all the time with the lower echelon of players on the professional tennis tours. Usually with club members of where ever
the event is being held. I don't know how the players are vetted. I'm going to contact the USTA and find out the particulars

I think it would be great to set it up by states, there could be a list of host in each state with contact info. This could be beneficial to both parties.

The road sucks. Almost impossible to get a game, when you do theres always some bullshit one way or another, the expenses eat you alive and you spend most of your time in shitty places with people whose only goal in life is to take your money.

Save yourself the aggravation and just go to the US Open One Pocket and US Open 10 Ball in May, Tunica in July and the Open in the fall. You'll spend less on expenses, see a hell of a lot more good pool and you wont miss anything but the horrible boredom of sitting in a pool room at 2 AM in North Shitheel, Illinois listening to a swarm of nut hunters trying to take one another off for $20 a game.

Jade on- truth...I hate hanging out in a poolroom, and I like pool.

I disagree with you, Mr. Black-Balled. I happen to enjoy sweating the all-night one-hole games, especially if I'm on the winning team!

I don't mind watching good pool in the pool rooms. I miss that. It was fun!

ETA: I think it all depends on the company you keep. ;)

Be careful of what you wish for !!!!!

Is this organization going to be Bonded?

I have hosted several people in my home and you have got to be careful.
They have been great friends, and I have been lucky in choosing the right individuals.

Greg Lemond,13 yrs old, 5 time winner of the Tour De France
Paul Potier a great guy.
Francisco Bustamante and that other lucky guy
Mike and Francine Massey
Ian Calip, 2nd Director of Star Trek being filmed now. I want to sit in Captain Kirk's chair.

Wow, Lemond at 13.

'Careful/ concerned' was my first thought too.

Greg Lemond, 5 time winner Tour de France

Blackballed, I took care of Greg Lemond for several years.
He use to come down for the Catskills Criteriun in Los Gatos Ca.

My buddy who ran the criteriun was President of the San Jose Bicycle Club.
He needed people to take care of the junior riders for the four day weekend.
He gave me a great young rider from Reno Nevada to host.

He told me that Greg would not win the race but he would be in the lead all the way till the last 300 feet.
I don't remember the length but they were racing around this huge park for several hours.
Gary, said he would be beaten by a Wheel Sucker.
A wheel sucker is a guy who rides behind you and slipstreams at the end to pass you.

This wheel sucker was a beauty because he rode right behind Greg the whole race.
This meant that Greg had to break the wind the hole race while the wheel sucker coasted and rested behind Greg.

When he lost, he was heart broken and cried, I told Greg it' okay your not a wheel sucker.
Your time will come.

I got a call one late afternoon from Greg in France.
Mr, Calip did you see me, yes Greg I saw you.
He told me it was my time to cry and I did.
