Open Offer to Danny Harriman and John Schmidt from TAR

Oh I get all the things we pool players do in order not to get screwed in one situation or another. All those protections just may be what makes our sport have such a limited venue. Seems to me TAR was willing to take a huge risk in order to promote our sport and I think they should be respected for that and the pros owe it to their fans (a base that is getting smaller every year I wonder why?) to step up and show some class for a change.

I am not sure what is your point be there.

For TAR to incur all the costs involved- money and time- and to position itself wholly at the mercy of a guy with a grudge...that would be russian roulette, if not suicide.

Respect has no bearing in the matter. It is just common sense...risk/ reward math is not looking good.

Now me vs. Neil...that will be a blood letting of extra-ordinary magnitude.

Maybe that is why he hurt himself with it then :)

What did he have to say about all this??

I think I'm going to do a podcast with Keith someday. It will offer a view on pool that maybe might shed light on some topics that crop up on this forum from time to time.

Right now, for example, our dog is dying. Wild horses couldn't tear us away from the homefront to shoot pool right now; thus, another example of why somebody may not be able to attend a pool event even if paid to do so. We are taking each day, one day at a time. In fact, Keith is in the back part of the house giving Sammy Boy his medicine.

Here's our Sammy Boy. We have a holistic doctor that comes to our home each week now, giving him acupuncture and Chinese herbs. He's doing better, but some days as better than others.

If you are saying the pro players have a right to think the way they do, hey who am I to argue, I'm sure they have been lied to, cheated and used their entire lives.

However, given the current state of competitive pool in the US, wouldn't Dr Phil be asking this collective group of pro players regarding their thoughts "how's that working for you?"

Touché! That's a good analogy!

Let me just address these "good" hypothetical reasons you are coming up with for Danny not attending. You are also necessarily saying danny is a very bad communicator. If his dog is ill, why wouldn't he just communicate this issue and i'm sure all would understand. He said "i want more" and "i'll be forced to hit balls." boo effing hoo on that second reason -- wo says these things?

Just sayin. I know its bad for the players. Its just that the current state of affairs is not going to get any better unless we all try something different. The same old same old is killing the sport we love. TAR came up with a new opportunity. I think the fans are way willing to embrace it, and I think the pros involved should too.

Thanks

Kevin

Give Sammy Boy my love. I've lost 2 older animals this last year and its a heart breaker.

danny heres what i think

thing is danny u have sent me messages saying many very unflattering things, and telling me that u were not impressed with my game etc etc and basically insulting me .
even though i have very little respect for your character etc i do have respect for your game.
i know full well i could lose if we play.
if i lose my life will go on,i have friends my health etc.

dont get me wrong i would rather check every inch of rosie odonell for ticks in a phone booth on a hot summer day then lose to u on live stream.

u tell me im heartless etc but i know one thing i got enough heart to give u a chance to win against me on film but i dont think u have enough ticker to do the same.
if u r scared say so danny and i wont bother u anymore, ill send u a autographed copy of one of my instructional dvds lol.
if u r not scared then quit running your mouth at me thru private messages and get your cue.
if u dont play im going to have to continue to refer to u as the springfield bb gun instead of the springfield rifle that u r known for.
im ready ,tars ready, the fans r ready, now quit crying and u get ready.

Did Danny come on the forum and post his reason for not playing? Is the only communication from Danny about this matter the private e-mail that was posted on this thread? I may have missed Danny posting elsewhere, which is why I am asking.

Whatever his reasons are, they are his reasons. If it affects his home life, work life, part-time job, full-time job, girlfriend, dog, an illness, he's entitled to decide what's best for him. He should not feel required to play pool because of us on this forum thinking, hey, it's good for the sport, pro players need to support industry members, et cetera, et cetera.

The offer was made; it was declined. End of story.

Time for the next extravaganza. I'm sure there will be one right around the corner that will whet the appetites of the forum members. Who knows, it just might even be an all-star cast of players. Then people will be saying, "Danny who?" :D

Well said John. We hope to see you at the Maryland State 14.1 Tournament again this year. Everyone in attendance enjoyed your play and your friendliness to the the spectators!!!

This is one of those lovely situations where technically, I know you may be right. However, everybody knows for a fact he is just scared :)

Nobody but his hairdresser knows for sure! ;)

I don't think he is scared, and I also don't think he'll be goaded into playing. If he plays, it will be his decision to make, not ours.

Danny doesn't want to play and has made that clear in a PM to Justin.

NEXT...................

Russ

The problem with "NEXT" is that this match as some unusual legs, and for TAR's first venture where they are assuming all the financial risk they are, they need a match with legs.

I mean look at the post above by John, he's in there mixing it up! This is what we need. If Danny would step to the plate these guys would have plenty of time to woof, we could all get involved and TAR could take a solid shot at promotions like this. if it was successful for TAR, who knows how much content that could lead to?

For us people that all watch the streams anyway saying "forget Danny lets move on", doesn't mean much because we watch all the streams anyway. TAR needs a match with more than the usual suspects tuning in and this one way has that potential.

IMHO

We could even start an official Harriman vs Schmidt woofing thread. Cmon Danny.... you know you want to play. I know you are reading this -- I will say a prayer for you tonight and ask God to give you the wisdom to change your mind.

I called Corey with a similar offer for a match about three weeks ago. He said he had to talk some people and get back with me. Still waiting.

Can you believe we are trying to give $5-$6K away and players dont seem to be interested?

Dude, I'll play. And I mean ANYONE! Put me in the ring against Efren for all I care. Or put me up against Shanelle. I'll probably lose to ANYONE you match me up with because I can't run on a treadmill never the less run racks of 10 ball. But I'll make it interesting with snarky comments and lame excuses that will have people laughing (AT me; not WITH me) for months!

But in all seriousness, its sad that some people won't push their egos aside for a free payday.

it was a great idea for a great match. The only flaw was not taking into account Danny's "pride". Hopefully we'll see more matches in the TAR studio.

I think this needs to kinda stay on point in order for this match to go forward.

Gary's offer is appreciated BUT it puts a burden on TAR - there is a reason we put in the studio. To have a permanent location for matches , in a controlled venue. Pool rooms cannot off that.

Also, one of the main reasons for TAR offering the financial format is that backers are getting hard to find. The players get almost the same end result - without the need for backers - with Justin's offer.

I see some merit for Lenny's idea, and IF 10 people want to ofer $1,000 to Danny, that is their option.

But, I know Justin, and I am really hoping Danny rethinks his position on this. His number just does not work - the risk is too high for TAR. And if Danny makes it too tough to deal with him, then his future offers will probably become fewer and fewer.

Danny is a tremendous talent, and the American fans would like to see this rubber match played.

There is a point where the deal is not worth the hassle. I am sure Danny thinks that TAR makes gazillions of dollars on these PPV events. I can guarantee you that we don't.

Hopefully he will reconsider. Showing your ability to compromise to get things to happen usually means you will have the future opportunity to make more things happen. Playing hard to get only means that the people making the offers will probably go somewhere else.

Hope Danny thinks about it.

Best post on the thread!
