i do think mosconi would run 7 or 8 hundred on todays equipment.
today players though if they got to play 30 years straight of 14.1 on a 4x8 with 5 inch pockets would run 900 plus.
todays high run of 294 on a 4.5ft by 9ft diamond with 4.5 inch pockets is equivalent to id say 750 on a 4x8 . in case u didnt know who made that run it was me ,on film . 294 is the highest run on a diamond ever . it could b broken but without many witnesses or film its the diamond record just like willies 526 on a 4x8

This is well said and it underscores how difficult the comparison is to make.

Mosconi was generally viewed as the greatest 14.1 position player ever , but nobody would suggest that he was even close to being Lassiter's equal as a ball pocketer. If I had to pick a guy from the golden age of straight pool as most likely to produce a huge run on a tight diamond table, it would be Lassiter (with due respect to Mosconi, Crane, Sigel and Balsis).

Today's players shoot straighter than those of yesteryear, with Lassiter the obvious exception. As you suggest, if they'd tried their luck on loose 4x8 tables, they would produce huge runs.

I would agree with your synopsis about Lassiter being the straightest shooter of yesteryear's bunch. I have some old tapes of Wimpy, including the two "The Legendary Stars of Pocket Billiards Tournament" series that I'd personally recorded onto VHS tapes, and Luther pitched a shutout in one of them -- defeating all his opponents by a perfect score, including handing Willie Mosconi a bagel in the final. It was obvious, even in the twilight of his abilities, that he "still had it."

I personally feel that if Wimpy put in the same amount of effort into straight pool as Willie did, that Wimpy would at least equal, if not eclipse, Willie's abilities. Tall order, I know, but deep down I feel it to be true. Not that I don't "like" Willie or revere his accomplishments, but I just feel that Wimpy was more accurate.

High run on 4.5 inch pockets is Thorsten Hollman is 412 which he told to me and I'm sure can be confirmed if someone asks him.
High run a 9ft table Babe Cranfield 768
High run on a 8ft table Mosconi at 526 but did also ran 609 on a 9ft.
High run on a bar table?
High run on a diamond pro is 311 (thank you)
High run on a 5x10 I'm not sure Lassiter didn't count.He went 5hours without missing but was a slow player but had to be 400-500.
As far as I know all these runs we're on the square without removal of balls to polish after the runs had started.Im sure we can contact Charlie Ursetti and have him add all his knowledge very easy.

No offense, but where are you getting this "860" number from? The well-known number that is attached to Babe Cranfield's legacy is 768, not 860. There are a couple sources, not the least of which are R.A. Dyer and George Fels:

thats not hohmans high run and we could bet on it if u like.
also ive ran 400 and 403 and never cleaned balls during run ,which they do in snooker by the way so its ok.
also i had camera phone and about 30 people c both runs.
also my 294 on diamond is highest run on diamond,its on film.

its kinda like a guy who has a low round of golf of 62 ,well trust me he shoots 70-74 daily.i never c u run 100 and ive seen u play many many many times.

i c u get in the sbe 14.1 challenge and take like 50 tries and u ran like 108 once banking a ball off the stack twice,
your next best inning was like 65 after 4-50- innings mind u.
