SVB / Orcullo Round II

This just shows the difference between the absolute top players and everyone else. Not to demean Corey and John, but they might not have gotten to three. Not saying they would not adjust or that Shane/Orcullo could play at this level every time, but they made that table look like a bar box.

I completely agree with all you said.. That was the highest level of 8ball I have ever witnessed and on an extra tight Diamond.. Simply unbelievable.

Why does it matter?

On the broadcast when they were talking about changing the 8 ball race to a longer one, they talked about the effect that would have on bets made on the match, plus inquiring minds want to know.

After seeing how easy those guys ran 4-5-6-7-8 racks in 8-ball, I think even a race to 20 is too short.

Because at least half of the most talked about gambling matches of all-time are because of the amounts. These being the $100,000 Walden match; the $150,000 Dippy-Frost debacle; and the $100,000 Color of Money match between Efren and Earl.

There is a possibility with the money on both sides of this match to have $1/2 million dollars on the line. I have no idea if anything is being bet, but both sides have the resources. I believe Orcullo's crew would easily bet six figures. Knowing that a hill-hill game is worth $50,000 or more is much more meaningful than $1,500.

The most I have played for on a single game was $300 and I was not concerned at all on any ball whether it fell or did not. If that figure was $3,000 I would be sweating bullets even if I thought I was a huge favorite.

In that case then...yes...each side is betting $200,000. Four years from now that number will turn into $400,000. Ten years from now they will have been betting a million a side and a little finger.

I see your point but no one ever really knows what the hell is really bet anyway. Two of three matches you name I wouldnt cross the street to watch no matter what the bet. Both of those matches I was closer than that distance and didnt bother sweating them. But to each their own.

But just to satisfy everyone's curiosity Dennis's side wanted to bet a decent number per set and Shane wanted to bet a decent number on the overall....so far they haven't agreed on anything as far as I know.

For anyone who thinks money matters at all between these two: last night after awhile they decided to play short set of one pocket with Shane giving a ball. The amount was about what a nice dinner for two and drinks costs in Vegas. Shane lost...then picked up the cue ball and promptly slammed it so hard in the table it almost hit the ceiling.

They are playing for more money this weekend than anything they have played for so far since they been here.

So far in these matches that are "exhibition" we have have had two players threaten to fight their opponent and one person have me so mad I wanted to do murder. So forgive me if this little money doesnt impress everyone but for some reason the guys actually playing for it seem to care a great deal about who wins or loses.

I thought the TAR match started tonight? Is this a preview/exhibition set that everyone is talking about?

???

Yes.

Dennis and Shane played some $500 8Ball sets on Wednesday and Thursday night that we streamed to get people warmed up for this weekend.

TAR 29 begins tonight at 7 PM Eastern.

In the spirit of an election year...

I APPROVE THIS POST!

Mars, you are shane's backer correct?

Can you please dress him next time?

Stripped shirt, plaid shorts, dayglow sneakers, dirty white glove and .... a Cuetec.

It looks like he drove by an exploding WalMart and stuff stuck to him.:grin-square:

I cracked up at this! Hilarious!

Thanks it was Awesome

At Fargo Billiards last night, we had a blast watching before league, and even more fun was Rory Hendrickson and Shane texting back and forth. Giving him shit about his shoes. Hard to concentrate with it up on all the TV's as our Team played against Randy G, the Pool School instructor, whom is in town for lessons. Lucky we have Rory on our team.

Rory giving Shane crap about not winning a flip!
Rory giving Shane crap for spotting his 4 to 8 games every set!

It was a big hit, and everyone is excited to watch this weekend.

Thanks again

JCIN if they play that hard I wouldnt care if it was for $50, a shlunkie, and a fried twinkie. Just sayin yo!

Can you elaborate on this Justin?

Im sure he left it vague as to not give out names...

But after reading about (and not even watching) I could probably guess the players he is talking about... and no, I'm not posting it either.

I noticed Dennis has a little muffin top' and I gotta like Shane after many days of play if he's done his prior road work and crunchies.

Timing is, in fact, everything!

I tuned in last night to see Dennis up, 8-0.

Then I watched Shane pull out all the stops and win it.

The last game in that set was just SICK. Shane misses on the 8 in the side...then Dennis scratches. Never seen anything like it.

A come-back for the ages. Can't wait to watch the show tonight!!!

Thanks to JCIN and OB Cues for putting on one hell of a show!

I hope you stuck with it to see the next sets.

:o So they played another set (this time 1-pocket) after the streamed matches last night and this time SVB slammed the ball on the table after losing? He must learn to keep his cool against a player like Dennis. I saw his face as the 3rd set was about to finish (they are even on the money now after 2 nights) and he looked so frustrated after leading 3-0 (or was it 4-0) and then Dennis won the next 7 or 8 matches to win the match. Dennis on the other hand has obviously done his homework after losing 2 sets the first night. I read he practiced his break for a couple of hours after losing Wednesday night and he was rewarded.

Basing it on last night's play, Dennis appears to be the very, very slight favourite. But tonight may have a different scenario. Hopefully, SVB keeps his composure and focus. Dennis looked like he could play another 10 sets....and win...

Something happened last night (IIRC) during Shane's awesome comeback.

Shane said something to Dennis along the lines of "sit down". A solid and a stripe were very close together. I think there was more to it. Anyone know what went down?

There will be a little something "extra" on the line today and all three days. Let's just say that the bet in the middle is now the small bet.
What did you expect? You've got two guys who love to bet it up! You will have to look very far to find anyone who can out-gamble either of these guys!
I love this match-up. These guys are the REAL DEAL when it comes to pool in 2012!

My comment was never meant to lower the meaning of the match on it's own merit. The matches last night were some of the best ever. Every match you guys produce is top notch (at least you do everything you can to make it so). Some players' personalities ruin everything (you touched on that yourself).

I will support TAR and buy the match regardless. I will enjoy stellar pool play for sure. I will watch the two slug it out with immense desire to win no matter what. If it happens to be the highest bet ever on a pool match, I would love to know that while watching it. If not a single dime is bet in the middle it doesn't matter either. Sorry if I offended you.

I think Shane should not have played Dennis any of those $500 sets, he let Dennis get comfortable with the equipment. If Dennis and him both walked in the door without really getting the feel of the table then Shane would win because of his comfort on that table and Dennis would have needed some time to get used to it. Dennis did not look good at all the first day playing. I think this match is really a coin flip and pure gambling, I was not going to even bet on it because I did not know which side to pick.

No offense here. To me its about great pool is all. Thanks for sweating the match.
