question about the brain

Ok, think about this. Up until several hundred years ago there were no mirrors. It was rare that we could actually see what we looked like, only maybe when looking into a clear pond. When the first mirrors were introduced, they frightened people, who thought they may be a portal to another dimension.

The early mirror makers were considered so valuable that countries would protect them from being kidnapped and also make sure they didn't escape to make a better deal elsewhere. The secrets for making mirrors were closely guarded and did not become common knowledge until a few hundred years ago.

Wonder what life was like when women didn't have mirrors?

First came the mirror then came the cosmetic industry. Johnnyt

why when u fall too sleep ur brain stops working an how does it start working again if it stops..... an when it does stop when u go to sleeep how do we stay living an not die just curious

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the future of our great nation.

Here's another question of equal importance: How do you grow up to man size without being able to match a five year old's knowledge of biology?

Jeeeezuz Christ. :frown:

(Also, this is NPR)

Hey Mike, know what you are saying, but that was no line on my part. I was thinking about some great people in my family who are no longer with us and shared my thoughts.

Maestro,

I was just kidding around. Just another weak attempt for a chuckle on my part. No offense intended. There's nobody smart in my family so I didn't understand.

Best,
Mike

When you are born you know nothing. Everything from then on is taught or self taught.

As a young person most do not think or dwell on mortality or failure.

You age and people around you die, so much for mortality. Millions of things now occupy the brain, the worst of all is the "what ifs".

We tend to lose our younger what ifs where if we buy a lottery ticket we will win a million dollars to if we buy a lottery ticket we won't make our car payment.

If you approuch a shot in Pool with any negativity you get what you thought, you missed.

Can you free your mind of all negativity and free wheel yourself into not knowing how to miss? Bring this thread up in two more years, the answer will be yes or I will not be posting or playing Pool.

Actually, the brain is the gateway to an alternate world that is shared with the the one we exist in now. When we sleep the gate is opened and we are allowed to co-exist in both worlds.
When I go to sleep I become Brad Pitt, and win every pool tournament I enter. I also have a speedboat and a dog named Charlie.
When I'm awake in this world, I'm me, which pretty much sucks.

The brain never stops working until you learn the power to turn it on and off yourself. This is the secret of the Zen masters.

As we used to say in the sixties, ''goom is too deep for me''....

Hey that's great news! I thought I kept waking up just because I was depressed. :-) (Mike, no problem by the way. Thanks for the note.)

Everything I have seen about the brain, the one thing that the doctors and scientists are not sure about is exactly the time at which we go from being "awake" to "asleep". If your brain actually stopped working when you went to bed, you will be dead in minutes from no oxygen.

Odd post for the pool forum though, although lately I've been playing like I was brain dead, have not gotten past 1 or 2 rounds in a tournament in weeks.

Then it's a good thing when my brain turns off because I was wondering about that for the last 30 years or so. I'm just not sure how I'm doing it when it happens.

Best,
Mike
