What I want to know is who transcribed the interviews!:grin-square:

My personal opinion, the ABP appears to be a stew right now consisting of many flavors. They need to cut back on too many seasonings to make it taste better. :smile:

Just a couple of comments: The ABP comes off as highly disorganized and dysfunctional. Apparently they have zero clue who is doing anything in an official capacity.

In a way, it's kind of sad that they want to demand so much, like imposing their seeding (based upon their rankings), their rules, and to play in well organized, conveniently scheduled events with a minimum of $25K added, and yet offer little in return except VIP autograph signings and participation in pro-ams.

It's also sad (and indicative of their organizational disarray) that one year after incorporation they are still offering a lot of -- well, we haven't quite worked that out yet -- in response to the tough questions. Needless to say, it would behoove them to sit down and hammer out a few things.

Lastly, the only guy who came off well is Mark Griffin who told them to go pound sand when they wanted him to seed his event.

Lou,

Don't forget Mike Zuglan. The Turning Stone Classic events are not seeded. Mike evidently told them to pound salt as well. A quick look at the results from this past event tells the story. Most of the ABP leaders were there and not seeded.

Man....I had a hard time following some of that conversation...........I really thought this group had achieved its mission and was going away. That is what I heard from JA during a TAR broadcast. Or didn't he think anyone was listening.

It really is sad! Some need to support their families and some are young and trying to make a name and living for themselves and there ain't enough money in pool to support them all!

Either way things play out some one loses and there is no way around it. Some times you just have to pray that the pool gods see to it the greater good is the result!

You need to get together with Goofy and Mickey and find out what's going on behind the scenes. I hear Minnie has banned Mickey from hanging out with Donald Duck. No more pool for Mickey. That puts an end to the ABP and this Mickey Mouse operation. :grin-square:

Really? I thought he came off closed-minded in his predictable "it's that dern Charlie Williams again!" to Johnny Archer. To each his own!

Agree with most of what you're getting at in the rest. They desperately need to iron out these bizarre contradictions.

You do seem to have an affinity for Charlie Williams. Just curious, RedEyeJedi, but are you a female? There's something about the style of your written words that rings a bell with me. I just can't put my finger on it, though. :wink:

Pool players are not skilled in Marketing, Accounting, Promoting or creating a business model because of their lack of education/knowlege, drive and desire in this area, its NOT in their dna, its NOT what motivates them.

From another perspective, how many of the ABP members have degrees in these fields of work?

On the other side of the coin;

Marketing firms, accountants and promoters are also not skilled at putting together rack after rack of run out rotation pool.

I used to fish allot with my small boat and motor, but when I got the call to steer the titanic.......................
 
From what I've read and seen of the ABP, they present themselves as a purely self-interested group of top pool players, but transparently incompetent amateur businessmen, who are trying to bully the rest of the pool world into giving them privileges that they haven't earned and don't deserve. IMO.

I say lock them all in the TAR studio and no one gets out until there is a tour with at least one $25k added event per month and everyone agrees on points and seeding.

I think what I take from the article after digesting it overnight is that you are correct in that the ABP doesn't give a hill of beans what we, the American pool public, think. This is evident by the way they have contributed to this forum concealed under a forum name, nobody knowing who the "ABPpros" identity truly is who is writing the posts.

The very fact they don't give a damn what we think, why should we give a damn what they think? Let them scrape for whatever crumbs the industry members of the BCA throw their way, which won't be much.

It is sad that they are shooting themselves in the foot. Instead of getting us, the American pool public, excited about pool, they seem to create confusion, doubt, and anger at times. The ABP is just the latest incarnation of Charlie Williams' attempt to control. It will come to an end, just like the UPA did when the UPA president jumped the UPA sinking ship, leaving Frank a ship with a hole in it to steer. Nice guy!
 
In my opinion, the ABP is still a club. Mike D. talks about how "they need to be less cliquey" which is code for, the guys at the top don't like me, so I see no benefit. Which to me is the problem all together.

If pool as a sport is to grow, we need people that have a true passion and are indifferent to the parties involved with which the deal. They will also need to establish a cohesive and uniform approach to players, promoters, and sponsors. You can't tell Bill you going to hook him up, and tell tommy to F-off, just because. They also need to establish more realistic expectations from the promoters, help them to meet those expectations, AND THEN require X-ammount of money be added.

The ABP (IMO) right now is a joke. It is biased, unorganized, out of touch. I think most spectators would agree. If the ABP were to be salvaged it would take an outside independent entity to come on board. This person or group of people would need to know the industry and be completely independent from the active players that are members of the ABP. This would get rid of the biased, and protect all members as a whole. It would also put sponsors and promoters on a more consistent playing field. This person or group would also have the PROPER amount time to dedicate to keeping up agenda and image of the organization, but also keep in touch with the members and fans so as to keep providing a good and CONSISTENT product.

If this is to happen it will take an outsider. Some who is not a member already, but who will keep the members best interests at heart in all negotiations, without diluting the final product.



I could really go on for hours about how hopelessly lost the ABP seems to be, but I don't have the time nor the care for the organization. The above only begins to scratch the surface of what they are doing wrong as a group. They'd have better luck trying to turn the Bonus Ball into a pro-league with guaranteed payouts etc.

Props to Jerry for getting the interview(s) in a timely fashion. And for almost holding his tongue well enough to hide his passion :) *poke poke*

A little something was lost in the translation, but its still easy to see that the non-money-asking-for-non-international-non-defined-point-system-with-members-who-aren't-really-members organization of professional players has a few glitches to iron out.

Just sayin.

I could say these people have an affinity toward this or that, but I know its more complicated than that.

I'm a writer by trade, so I do make an effort to ensure a certain springiness of verse. But no, I'm a guy, Derek is my name. :)
