Thank you Atlas Billiards!!!!!!

After Christmas when I start the next list on the wall. I just might try them. Do you think they will glue up ok and stay together?

Kim

i forgot all about having some of that material
i bought it a couple years ago on a whim and never used it
it looks pretty smooth & slick to me
i think i'd run it thru a drum sander to ruff it up a little
i'll see if i can do a test piece soon

Tony's pictures are about a year old. You ought to see what his is doing now. Opps you can't. He has been banned. What a loss for AZ!

Larry

Jacob texts me some pics once in a while but his work needs to be seen.

I guess the first time I saw them was about 2 years ago, in Jake's shop. He's been making them for quite a while.

Jake is as honest as they come. If he's pissed off, it's for good reason.

The way I understood it, this section was intended for customers to ask cuemakers questions about cues, not for cuemakers to share information about how to build cues.

On another note:
Our industry needs to grasp the reality of Intellectual Property. IP must be respected by an industry for the industry to grow and prosper. Copyright's, trademarks, and patents don't have to be that expensive. We should protect our intellectual property and defend it vigorously.

'I see' said the blind man.
That ringwork is awesome and really understand him for being upset. Too bad they got banned so soon, I would have liked to hear Rick's explaination, as it appears that those rings are clearly Jacob's signature rings.

i drove down to rick shop 3 week ago to pick up my new cue and he was drawing the change to ring on the computer and i met stew.... stew showed me photos of cues he made with that same angle in it 30 years ago.....

i know fact that rick made change based on stew advise because of all the stuff that went on in jimbo.....that's a fact....

i met this tony at the windy show where rick shared his table area with him and put him up in his house for a week tony was real quick to throw rick under the bus.........i would put large money on that he never talked to rick before blasting him......

if you know or have delt with rick he is class guy i have re read this posts and is clear he had no idea what this other guy was trying to say..... tony was painted rick as a bad guy.... not true.....

the rings this lsgm makes is real cool but i never have seen them on AZ and i go there every day in FS and galery.... i would bet the same for rick...what is the name of his cues....

Obviously you have never dealt with Jake or have any clue
what kind of cuemaker he is.

I have used a few of the plastic rings and they seem to epoxy up really well. I did sand them to get rough surface.

Well..... sandwich up some of them in a veneer stack and then beat the hell out of them to see if they separate.

ownership

Somebody did points first.
Somebody did BF points first.
Somebody did veneered points first.
Somebody did slot rings first.

diamonds, propellers, notched diamonds, MOP dots, Hoppe rings.......... etc

How long do you own it once you put it in a cue for the first time and put it out in the world for everyone to see. Is a new innovation owned or is it in the public domain?

After all, almost everything in cue building has been done by some one else previously.

not bashing anyone.......... just asking

Jake it was nice to meet you as well...

Let me clarify something... Jacob is my best friend, period!

Stew also showed me some ringwork he made in the old days but not like that.

Also, I appreciate the fact that Rick welcomed me in his house and he knows I'm very thankful for that, but because of that now I can't defend my friend that was banned? He did not have the chance to defend himself!!!
At the same time Jacob did not use profanity in public, Rick did... My 13 year old reads this forum once in a while and my wife as well. Do you really think that behavior should be tolerated? Do you think that the pm Rick sent to Jacob was really a welcome and friendly message?
I did not expect that coming from Rick and was actually extremely disappointed.
Throwing Rick under the bus? Call it whatever you want, I would do it again to defend my best friend specially if I know my friend is 10000000% right.
The fact the matter is that when Rick went to Little Kenny's show he did take some pictures of Jake's (LGSM3) cues.
Coincidence or not all I know is that the exact same ringwork design now shows up by miracle
The people that know Jacob know how long that ringwork has been around on his cues.

I wish you Happy Holidays!!!

Here is a story to lighten the mood a little hopefully.
My wife who has only been around cuemaking for a few years now, walked the floor at this years Super Billiards Expo looking at all the cues. She told one cuemaker that it is amazing that people who can do such good craftsmanship can also be so artistically gifted. The cuemaker just laughed and said, "We are not, we just steal each other's ideas."

He was joking, but telling the truth at the same time. We all get inspiration from others. At what point does an idea become public property? We all make points yet none of us invented them. Most of us make stitch rings, but did not invent them. We do inlays, but did not invent them. These guys do angled stitch rings, but did not invent them. Yes they took them to levels that are fancier than those who did them before had. But still did not invent them. I did silver lace wire rings years before most other makers did it, but I still was not the first. I think I may have been the first to use Purple Heart for break shafts. Should I be upset others are doing it? I see Window in the pictures and know he did not invent Windows or even over lapping windows.
Two people both invented a tip pick tool at about the same time without ever knowing each other. They fought in court for years over who deserved the patent and another company just used the idea, changed the housing for the needles and took it to success. I invented something for bathroom use, only to find out it was already patented years earlier.

I understand one party being upset, but the reaction from both seems overkill. People have asked me to post pictures of all items I want to sell. Well I listened and posted pictures on here of my veneer miter cutting fixture and in less than one month someone made copies of it and listed them on ebay. I used to refuse to let anyone take pictures of my lathes at the Expo's, but finally just gave up. Every time I see Asians with really big fancy cameras taking pictures, I wonder how long before I see copies of my lathes coming out of China. Everyone knows we have seen plenty of copies coming out of the USA.

The bottom line is most cuemakers do some things that are semi-unique, but for the most part we all use ideas that have been around for a while.

I agree with this post...
I also agree that some things are proprietary to the person who designed or created a type of product or design of an item...

But, in this case, there are no patents or copy rights, on the artistic designs that are created...if that were the case then, 99% of every cue built is a copy of the original, with the exception of the new creative innovations, that are open to the public for their own use and applications.

I understand that there are hard feelings, but I really wish that both guys would have conducted their business via PM's, as I think they both have great skills and talents as cue builders...and they deserve to be on here, as they are a benefit to our community.

I honestly don't know either of these guys...but I've enjoyed their contributions to the forum.

Thank you

Let's face it. There isn't enough money involved to make it worth while to enforce. Takes a lot of 800.00 cues to pay for a 350.00 per hour patent attorny. And personal integrity is not something that is rampant in the pool culture. Let's face it, a lot of pool players wants to be a hustler. Steal from the mark. Go for the quick buck. Sandbag your handicap.
I wish I had a solution, but I don't.

tony i don't have any ax to grind with you but you seem to be making a lot of statements based on 2 nd hand knowlege......

you got it all wrong.....that is for sure 1000000% friend or know fried it seems that lsmg was the 1st to post the swears that were a private pm.....rick was not smart enough to ignore it... you need to get your all facts straight....

does your friend have the right to attack anyone who adds a45 degree angle to his cue rign ...stew did it along time ago....just for the record...i seen the photos, i don't think you understand or saw it.......all i see is rick added a 45 to the ring he has been using ...does your friend own 45 angle

when people make statements they should check the facts and listen a little first.......

and after all of the good things that rick has said about you on az.....real friends don't jump to coclusions.....

as mush as you think you are being true the facts i know say you misunderstood and spoke too fast.......that's all i will say................chris said it right, most things been around a while........

Perhaps all is not what it seems.........

Tony, a phone call before posting would have been appropriate.

This thought process is part of the problem...

If you don't think enough of it to protect it and/or the Patent office does not deem it unique enough, its up for grabs. All I know is AZ just lost 2 active posters.

They both have some time to address their problems before they are allowed back on the board.

What do you mean?

Kim

The notion that you cannot come up with something unique
to uourself anymore.

Alternating silver and ivory rings? Gina.
Diamond maple rings? Samsara.
Scallop butt cap? BB.
A self-respecting maker should call them for permissions
if they want to use those unique element imo.
They're not exactly dead.

Welcome back Jake.
