Can anyone shed some light on how Gina cues play? Hit,feel, sound of the hit the cues feedback. Ernie's work everything. Looking for all info. Thanks in advance for those who help.

Describing how a cue plays is like the ten blind men and the elephant. Until characteristics of a cue can be scientifically described using a standard based on numeric values it's like asking how much does a hen weigh. Get one and try it. Either you will like it or you will not and that will have no bearing on the next person's feeling about it. I have seen the exact cue described by two people as too stiff and too limber.

I had the chance to hit with one of Ernie's cues last night. It was a basic cue with 5 points, black, green, black, natural veneers, BEM nose, and ebony butt. The joint is SS 5/16 18 thread and the shaft has an ivory ferrule. The taper is a long pro taper.

I found that the cue had excellent balance and a solid hit. Feedback was good and you felt confident while stroking shots. My impression was that Ernie builds one heck of a nice cue. I could own this cue and be perfectly happy.

The workmanship was amazing for a simple cue. All 5 of the inner and outer points liked up perfectly. This does not sound like a big deal, but, look at many top tier 4 pt cues and see how many of those points match up perfectly.

I have a high end Gina cue listed right now for sale that I would buy for myself if I had the money. I have no problem saying that it is hard to go wrong with one of Ernie's cues, top shelf all the way!

They have a good reputation and a premium price. You won't make a single ball with them that you can't make with a cuetech. Change the tip on a cue and it will hit different. Your best bet is to hit with a few Gina Cues but even then they will vary from cue to cue depending on your ability to detect the difference.

If you know what you like in a cue, you might call Ernie and get him to make something that fits what you like. You might have to wait but you are more likely to get what you like if you can't hit with them first. Shows like SBX are great because you can test hit the actual cue before you buy. If you're going to spend $5k + on a cue you deserve to know that you what the hit is like for you by your own experience. Otherwise know Gina is a fine cue and hope you get something you like.

I have a Andy Gilbert and a Gina. I seen Andy at the SBE and told him that my Gina feels like a Gilbert. He laughed and said that Ernie would be happy to hear that.

It is really hard to say. His cues are excellent. He is a old master that has perfected what he makes. Everything appears to be perfect. They are top notch and hold their value for a reason. Wouldn't use one as a banger or bar pool league.

Is it the magic feather? No it isn't. The cue "plays" only as good as the player.

Best advice is to go to a large venue like the SBE where there are a lot of dealers and cue makers and try different cues.

Funny that was my thought too

I have a Gilbert I really like and shot a few with a Gina last night. I honestly thought the two felt very close to being the same. If I did not know which one I was handed and just shot I am not sure I could tell. I think the hit and feel was solid, a touch stiff and good feedback.

In reference to my post that you quoted, both the Gilbert and Gina are 5/16 pin with a piloted ivory joint and ivory ferrules with leather wraps. Gilbert's are also excellent cues, excellent workmanship and a great value for the money but as with any reputable cue maker his cues are also increasing in price but still affordable.

They hit real hard.
I don't like them at all.

Gina's have a nice solid feel. But honestly, the shafts have some of the highest squirt characteristics I've encountered. It would take a while to adjust if someone is used to a low squirt shaft.

they look great, but the hit isnt my bag. Ernie does amazing work. its up to the individual what feels best

My experience with Ginacues is that they hit to the softer side of the spectrum. (Steel joint 5/16X14). I liked the playability of the cue and would compare it to the feel of my Chudy or Schick.

As another post mentioned, there was some squirt but I found that the deflection was quite predictable. The cue played very well for me and shot exactly where I aimed.

The most important point I want to make, however, was first said by Dr9ball: Ernie can make the cue hit any way you like. So some Ginas out there will hit stiff while others may be more as I described. The man is a master...if you know your preference, express it and order a cue. If used, hit with it first if possible.

Either way, you'll have something special.

As far as making a cue art wise that is the way you want it Ernie may comply. If you want him to do a custom taper on the shaft or want a ferule other than ivory forgetaboutit!
