Can't believe noone's mentioned Ruth McGinnis.

Not many people still alive who saw Ruth play.
Another candidate would be May Kaarlus daughter of trick shot artist Professor Kaarlus.
She had a traveling show and usually had 2 or 3 world champions traveling with her, all of whom testified to her powers of cueing.
She used to play a shot that was a rail, tickie off the first ball, back to the same rail, tickie to the second ball, back to the rail and 5 rails counting that rail to a carom on another ball.
I tried to show the shot to Mike Massey about 15 years ago and he saw the explanation and was not receptive in the least.
I forgot about it for 14 years and last year I showed it to Preacher Ron who almost hit it on his 3rd attempt.
I had never shot it myself and was explaining it the other day, and was asked to try it , so I did .
I did everything my first attempt except make the carom on the ball after 5 rails I came up a foot or so short.
If I can figure out the wei table I will post the shot.

Allison without doubt has the best record of all time for a female player. Jean won all the tournaments in her day too, but the fields were not nearly as strong.

All that said, the best women players I've ever seen are the young guns from China. Si Meng Chen is a fantastic pool player. The fact that Kelly Fisher is winning over there may mean that she is the best player right now. She certainly has a big game!

jean balukas came in 5th place us open straight pool at the age of 9!
possibly the only reason her record isnt better than Allison is because she quit in her prime.

she won the us open straight pool championship at the age of 13!

cmon now

Jean Balukas

None of the women could compete with the top men for the cash.
Against the likes of SVB, Dennis O., Alex, Efren, Jose, etc.......... all the women get BBQ with the 6 ball.

This is like comparing who was a better golfer bobby jones or tiger woods ? Who knows!golf courses are tougher... Equipment makes it easier. The same with comparing allison to j.b. tables are faster and tighter now and I think the average female player as well as male is better.

I think it is a toss-up between Jean and Allison... but, IMO, someday Jasmin will rank right up there with them, maybe higher. That's if some of the Asian women don't surpass them all. There's a good possibility of that happening.

I could not disagree she is a great woman player, but how can you say Jasmin will "one day" rank up there, or maybe higher? When is it going to start? She better hurry up, Jean was placing high in pro tournaments at 9 years old.

When Lori Shampo approached Jean Balukas at a tournament with an offer to play 9-ball for big money, this was her opening line. "If you play me some 9 rock, I will shoot your ovaries out!"

Lori could play $1000 9-ball -- and did.

Beard

I guess she should be thankful Balukas did not gamble. Or to everyone I have ever asked about it, she did not gamble.

Lori was hot and i know you had the hots for her Fred.

In your real honesty if Lori and Jean were to play a race to 21 for 1000 or more back in their days, Who would you have bet on?

All feelings aside Beard, who would it be?

Jean Balukas is my pick for the greatest female player of all time. I was the first male pro player that she played when she was allowed to compete against the men. She made an example out of me, beating me 11 to 2, shooting an accu-stats game number of plus 900! She went on to beat Kim Davenport, Mike LeBron and a few others in that same tournament. She eventually beat every good male player at least once on the tourn trail before she retired.

However, for a G-note a game, 9-ball on the bar table, I couldnt bet against Lori -- playing any girl. For big money, Lori intimidated good-playing men.

Beard

Lori could woof and shark, Jeannie did no such things. and yes, I did have the hots for Lori, but my opinion still stands.

I actually knew that Virginia, she is a friend whom I never ask about these things because she has manners and class so other than facts or really polite opinions she would never say.
I also notice that someone posted an email from robin to someone about the girls speed? if robin thinks/thought jean was a "b" player what was she a c player?
I never really liked robin as it was from a fan/players perspective but after seeing that I don't think she knows what was going on around her and basically lost even more respect for her.(I had a little beacause she competed)

as I was typing this Freddie posted...THANK YOU FREDDIE,SHOWED YOUR CLASS

I cant believe Robin said Jean was a B player. Robin had as much chance against Jeannie as a burp in a Typhoon.

Beard

Robin couldnt beat Lori on any table -- if they were gambling -- and Robin did gamble.

love it.. I played jean for 1 dollar or a soda a million times we played races to five and the only trash talk I could muster from her was ooops, your gonna lose this set

She started at 3 years old!

The two best that I have seen was Jean and Allison Its hard to make a comparisons seeing that they didn't play in the area. It would have been something to watch .

heres the post.i hope robin gets wind of it

I think we may be reading a bit much into Robin's statement. Robin was comparing professionalism, and overall game. And not just being an A, B, C player skill wise. Most pool players could use some help in professionalism, so to rate them an A+ or something might be over the top. Especially after the match Robin had with Jean on ESPN. It was un-called for the way that match was. Totally unprofessional.

As later Robin said, yes, she feels Jean is definitely a more skilled player than Alison. But adding in professionalism, I think Alison is the epitome of professionalism.

that was at the end of a very long career of being targeted...btw does everyone realize that the nine flying in the corner of those racks were probably bad racks?

Jasmin has a 5th in the World Straight Pool Championships (men) about 6 years ago. She may have done just as well another time. Bad memory.
