~~~~Dennis Searing~~~~
Yes.
It's a all ebony sleeved over one of his blanks.
Stealth. :smile:
That's a lot of work to go into a PJ. There's a fabulous Snake Wood 19A Gina floating around with great rings and ivory everywhere that also defies the plain in PJ. Also Brandon's (if he still owns it) Pink Ivory 19A which is up there in PJ value.
I think I've seen a Barry.
Kevin,
I think it was ebony but no inlays as I remember and they were from Tony so not sure what they went for on the secondary market! WAY OVERPRICED in my opinion but then again I don't like a cue without points and they have to have veneers too.
I'm with you. I really want rings everywhere and some work in them. I also way want veneers on my points, even if there are 6 or 8 of them.
Highest priced Plain Jane
Not sure what the highest price would be on a Plain Jane but I have a Ebony on Ebony Merry Widow Barry Szamboti, I turned down $7,000 for it last year and I don't think the guy was going to stop but I specifically told him the cue was NOT FOR SALE, who knows what he would have went to, LOL. But this thing is Ultra Rare and to my knowledge only mine and two others exist. When these were made they only came with one shaft, mine has the original shaft in mint condition and Barry last year made two brand new matching shafts for this cue. Also It's my understanding that mine out of the three is the ONLY one that has the SZAMBOTI stamped on the butt cap the other two do not. Also making this cue rare it has a lot of GUS parts on it as well. Barry used GUS's Vintage Cortland Black Wrap and used an all Black Delrin Butt Cap, Black Delrin joint as well, so a lot of rare parts for this SZAM ! Some cues you just can't put a price on.
Good info Kevin, thanks.
My question was poorly worded. I meant on the secondary market but not from deceased or retired cue makers like Jerry Franklin or Gus.
That would be a nice collection, high end plane Janes.
I think I know where a contender is...
I heard Searings are now a 27 year wait list... Just as believable as 11 years...lol
I would believe it...some people may have already waited longer than 11 years already. I think once he done building the big $$ cues, he might consider building the lower end one. Don't blame the guy...would you build 3K cues or 30K first?
Duc.
I would build whatever the next guy on the list wanted and I'm sure that is how Tony does it!
Got to love the guys that don't believe Barry's or SouthWest's or Searing's waiting lists.
Lets see, Dennis builds 10 cues a year. There are 100 people that want to by a Searing at Searing's price. The math is really not that hard. Don't believe the waiting lists exist? Call Barry and see if throwing money at him will get a cue out of him.
Thanks
Kevin
I have heard that Dennis Searing doesn't even have a waiting list anymore.That he is "booked up" until he retires.These are comments that I've heard in a South Florida pool room not far from Dennis's shop.I can't say that any of this is true,this is just local pool room chatter.One comment was that if you ask Dennis to make you a cue,he will ask you how old you are.Dennis does great work and is a real nice guy.If you are young enough,you may be able to get a cue from him :) or there's always the secondary market,if you can find one of his cues.Good luck.
Maybe we should have a "waiting list thread" but I've also heard that Dennis may have closed his.
I know Barry did a couple of years ago.
I think I may have heard Hercek did also.
Ernie Gutierrez told me recently that he was building a few cues along with his 50th Anniversary batch, but not taking any orders beyond that right now. He's toying with the idea of just building maybe 1 cue a month, so that probably won't be a particularly inexpensive article.
I could be wrong but I don't think you can order a cue or go on a list with Showman either.
Kevin
PS I just reread Big Kenny's ad for his big Hercek and he says its getting harder and harder to get on Joel's list, so apparently there is still a way.
