One Pool Shot for ONE MILLION - How Would You Handle the Pressure???

What the picture doesn't show being almost at eye level with Earl, is that the table was completely surrounded by spectators, 10-20 deep on all sides, and just about everyone in the stands was on their toes. He rifled the ball in....and what followed was complete and utter pandemonium. I wrote a story about this on AZ years ago, but can't work the search thing very well.

Anyways, it is now a legendary tale, and I was glad to be part of the event.

Hey there, Robin, I'm glad you were a part of it too. The part after the shot is the best part of the video we have, it shows Earl break his cue and give John McChesney a big hug......that was amazing for a variety of reasons. ;)

I'm so glad we captured this moment on film, it's not "Accu-Stats" quality, but it's good enough to see everything that went on in that brief minute.....it was the most exciting moment (that wasn't staged) I've ever seen or experienced in pool.

I would have been so nervous, I'd probably shoot the 3 ball first.

CJ this is one truly amazing picture! I dare say its perhaps the best picture I've seen to date that doesn't feature my wife or little one. Any chance I can buy a copy of it to put up in my poolroom?
 
My heart is pounding just thinking about it. I think I'd have a chance to make the shot but I'm certainly an underdog, no doubt. But I promise y'all one thing is for certain, I'd love the opportunity at a shot for a FREE Million $ American. Set it up!!!

Wow, look at that look on Earls face, Man he knew he was going to make it!

CJ i just noticed that Earls cue is off center to the right of his chin, has he always played like that? or WAS IT FOR THIS SHOT ONLY?

If so, i cant beleive i never really notice it before!

Is that Joey Speath, behind Earl?
 
I have seen videos from the 90's of him playing like this. I have not seen or noticed any vids of him with the cue centered under his chin, but that is not to say that he did not play that way.

Today it looks like his cue is centered under his right ear.

One thing about Earl is he doesn't seem to be fearful of changing things up if it can give him an advantage.

What is more impressive to me I how he must of handled the pressure as it built up in the racks prior.

You know that as he got deeper into the run the pressure had to build.

Earl has always been a little off-center.

I have been watching him play for decades and the way he addresses the table is so full of purpose, I find it highly inspiring.
 
Someone needs to make a movie about Earl the Pearl Strickland! that movie would have ups and downs and be hilarious and very serious at the same time.
 
I just want to know who had the "Cahones " to stand inline with earls million $ shot and take a picture:eek:, this story may have had a different ending had he missed that ball cause of a flash or somthing. That probably wouldve been the moment Earl became the Earl we know (and still love) today.:grin:
Earl was a different guy then (mentally) and he probably wasnt concerned , and there had to be a 50 people around the table , but still.


me, i wouldnt have taken the sissy combo, id back cut bank the 1 and run out :grin:
