TV crews at the DCC

Get Shannon Daulton in front of the mic, and add Alex Pagulayan into the mix. Get a barkfest going. The action players who show no fear are the ones you need.

Hillbilly would be an excellent choice to watch.

I'm not sure who's going to DCC this year, but those are few colorful players who would put on a great show for the cameras.

Of course, Jeanette Lee will steal the show if she is in the house. ;)

Freddy, does Harrah's know you are coming with this? My concern is that wagering between two players in not considered gambling in most states as it is a test of skill, not luck, and each player has the ability to affect the outcome.

But once railbirds start betting then it becomes gambling (and illegal) because they cannot affect the outcome of the contest. And gambling in a casino in any form for which the casino does not own a license could be problematic for the Casino and the event.

Maybe I am just paranoid, but does Harrah's (or Diamond) know about your plans?

It sounds like they at least know( as does G. Sullivan), judging from Post#14 in Freddy's thread on onepocket.org :

Both constituents have talked to Greg Sullivan already. He aint worried.

Jam, talk Keith into coming and getting in front of the camera, that would surely be a hit, even the mainstream people that know nothing about pool would fall in love with him and the way he can work a room

Yeah... cleaning up snooker's image did absolutely nothing for the sport /snicker

Wrong. My impression is that most experts point to the late Hurricane Higgins appearance on the scene for the explosion of snooker's popularity. He was not exactly a church mouse

a lot of people saw TCOM ... call it "In Search of Grady Seasons"...

Freddy, you gonna pull your suit out the bottom drawer for this one :) Love to see that !!!

Agree with this 100%. Even if he doesn't play, but gets people in action, the room and audience would love it.

I am going to have two different sports networks following me around the Derby. The History Channel and ESPN are coming to DCC with cameras.
They have both been in contact with me for the last few weeks. I am going to be dukking them into the hot shot gamblers,

Don't forget to steer them to your favorite case maker! I am your favorite right?? :-)

Freddy,

How about showcasing the good things about pool (i.e. competition, young up and comers vs. aging veterans, the thrill of winning a huge tournament, etc.) and steer clear of the things that has always plagued pool from being a more publicized and growing sport like gambling, drunks, cheats, thieves, drug dealers, etc. etc. etc.

This is a great chance to put pool in a good light to the masses. Don't blow it!

Kelly

Amen brother. There is no saving the game when things like this are rewarded.

JB, how many of your cases do I have in my closet? I seem to have forgotten!:
(I believe my career has progressed to the point where all my pool paraphernalia is now gratis in trade for a professional endorsement.)

"This week on the History Channel Pool Action Stars see Little Pooter dump off not one but three backers in a single game. Also drama arises when White Willy runs out of Adderall in the middle of a two day session."

Everyone better be careful what they wish for. Reality TV is not going to make pool look good. Think more Honey Boo Boo and less Duck Dynasty. They will find the worst possible people to put in front of the camera and then just let them act like as big of fools as they are capable of.

If you subscribe to the any pub is good pub school then it wont matter and I suppose at this point nothing could make it any worse. I just dont know if I could take watching two guys scream at each other over a $100 a game one pocket on my TV set. Hopefully Freddy can steer them towards things that dont look retarded but my guess is they wont be interested in those.

This is exactly why I haven't been to the DCC in years. The fools are simply too much for me to take. Glad to see that you are finally seeing it -- or at least now talking about it.

Seems like there are a lot of holes here. I just dealt with the Golf Channel at my event in Houston for an entire weekend. We had to make an announcement before they started filming asking if anyone that didn't want to be on camera to come forward. Also, there was the feeling that they would try to spin it in a negative way until they met our crew and the players. The Golf Channel story line quickly changed. Sorry but I just don't see the posse of fools that run around the DCC pulling that off.

Would it be good for pool even if they show how things really are for a lot of the hardcore loud mouth gamblers? You know showing how they go from having $10k to pawning jewelry and cues just to eat in the matter of a weekend. Then going out and robbing vending machines, selling dope, hustling college kids etc to build up a "bank roll" to go out and gamble it away again. Living off girlfriends or bumming from friend to friend sleeping on couches, living in cars or on the street. All in the pursuit of living the "good life".

Sure it will get people thinking about playing pool. That in turn might help get some of the younger generation playing. Which would be a great thing. Problem being it would make them want to ACT just like the losers they see on TV because that's how it's done right?

Now if you can manage to show both sides and show some of the players that act like professionals, have sponsors, etc that live a decent life and show viewers that it's not all pos losers then you'd be doing some good. Much like some of the intervention shows or shows about drugs. They show the bad and the drama but don't glamorize it. Use the bad to bring them in and then show the good.

Congrats Freddy, can't think of a better spokesperson to introduce the real
gambling.
Have a great time.

Wish we could, but I'm in the middle of a brutal work schedule right now.

I want to echo the others who think this is really cool, because I sure do.

I have noticed that sometimes when new things happen in the pool world, they sometimes goes political. Those who aren't involved with it want to put it down. And along come the testicle-dangling allies. What a shame!

I never thought we'd have Republicans and Democrats in the pool world, but we have political parties. If you're aligned with one pool political party, the tendency is to put down efforts by the other political party. Seesh! I get enough of that crap in my job here in D.C.

I'm rooting for Freddy, et al., to have a good showing at the Derby City Classic this week.

JAM, I don't believe anyone is putting anything down. It is just people talking about the realities of dealing with cameras on casino/hotel property.

People are gambling; people may be at the hotel with people they would rather not have udder people know about; they may be doing things they'd rather not have recorded.

It is a very delicate situation and I'd be surprised if Caesars Entertainment is fully aware of, and has blessed, what these guys may be doing. Now, having said that, we are talking about two established outlets, so maybe they've dotted the "i's" and crossed the "t's" with the property. But they'll still have to deal with the players, backers, and sweaters who may not want to be on-camera. I guess we'll all find out in a week or two.

One thing y'all can count on is that I aint gonna dog it around Big business and Big TV. They will not push me around because I dont give enough of a shit. Just like I would never endorse a product that I didnt like, no matter what i was offered, money and a TV career dont ring enough of my bell to get me to do what I dont believe in.

Now, maybe if they had some new serum that allows a player to never miss a ball, and that was to be my reward, well that would be a different story entirely.
