I am going to have two different sports networks following me around the Derby. The History Channel and ESPN are coming to DCC with cameras.
They have both been in contact with me for the last few weeks. I am going to be dukking them into the hot shot gamblers,

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

that should be fun and interesting for them.

thx for the headsup, Mr. Beard.

Freddy,

How about showcasing the good things about pool (i.e. competition, young up and comers vs. aging veterans, the thrill of winning a huge tournament, etc.) and steer clear of the things that has always plagued pool from being a more publicized and growing sport like gambling, drunks, cheats, thieves, drug dealers, etc. etc. etc.

This is a great chance to put pool in a good light to the masses. Don't blow it!

Because unfortunately, the masses don't care or will not watch what you just described. Now on the other hand, even people who don't follow pool will stop and watch a woofing match, 2 guys playing for big money, or a cheat or thieve. Sad but true. Kinda like what happened with poker, people who had never played in their lives, would tune in and watch the high stakes and the guys with personality.

Every attempt to "church up" pool has set pool back. Pool is what it is and trying to change it ruins it.

Good work, Freddy! :)

This might open the door to some kind of reality show on the History Channel. That network is big into reality TV. One of their big hits is "Pawn Stars" and I love to watch that show. Wouldn't it be great for them to do something with Pool!

Sorry Kelly, but the only thing those TV people are interested in are the gamblers.

How many books and movies are/were about tournament players? How many were about gambling and hustling? I rest my case. Go get em Freddy. Johnnyt

He said ESPN and the History Channel ... not PBS or the BBC...

Yeah it's not really appealing to the upscale demographic that would be attractive to sponsors, but at this point beggars can't be choosers. Getting eyeballs watching and getting more people wanting to play is good for everybody. Let er rip Freddy.
