U nothing to opologize for it your opinion .. I just putting u straight on money matches ..

If u ever at a tournament and at the bar we will drink and chat about no problem

Anyway time to get of here and drink.

Take away the pain lol .:-)

You are a class act in my book and have nothing to apologize to anyone. Have a drink for me, I wish I could buy. John Terrell

Darren is always a class act!

Perhaps some of the people posting here should think about themselves how they behaved when playing for several hours and they had the intention that luck was not on their side for most parts of the match.

Yes Darren mumbled, isn't that human?
He is a human like anyone of us... and winning was important for him...

As long as he did not bothered Dennis's concentration he can mumble all day long imo and he did not interfere Dennis's voncentration!!!

On top he had to cope with the situation that he heard the sometimes questionable commentaries pretty much only favoring Dennis O's game) in hos mother language understanding every word...

I know how hard these kind of situatiosn can be and how difficult it is to stay focused and positive in the moment when you play below your true abilities, when you think the commentators should be more neutral at least and where you can here them all the time and when you have the subjective impression that lady luck fell in love with your opponent!

Emotions of the players - any kind of emotions make this beloved sport of hours real interesting for the spectators!

As long as a player's comments do not interfere the opponent- as long as the player does not insult his opponent or the spectators (like Earl does it all the time) I do not have a problem!!!

Darren is a class act because he never blames anyone else but himself in the end ( although he did not seem to do so on TAR in the end he knows that he could / should have won and that he just did not take his chance(s) )

He is a class act because he even apologizes for his behaviour because it was not as profesional as he expects it by himself and he did not wanted to offend any of the spectators!

He is just one of the greatest sportsmen alive!

The mumbling was irrelevant, and the announcers should have ignored it. In fact, Darren should not have had the mic on, or should have had it removed, simply because of that odd habit. As long as Darren was not sharking, which he definitely was not, his talking to himself was beside the point.

Darren in fact has a great virtue, that he is one of the most competitive players, in a good way. His talking to himself is just an idiosyncrasy.

When you think of how deep he dug to beat the Chinese fellow in Dubai or Quatar a couple of years ago, hill-hill, and how deep he dug to beat Corey in the US Open finals hill-hill, and how consistently competitive and what a great performer he is against the best in the world all over the world, you have some idea of his fantastically intense interior mental game.

the talking to himself was irrelevant. He doesn't need to be with the mic though.

Darren is a champion for the ages.

Thanks for coming by Daz. You shouldn't really care what any of us think, but you do, and that says a lot.

This sums it up quite nicely.

Darren, you are one of the good guys in pool. You are part of what's right with pool.

I enjoy watching you play, listening to your interviews, and reading your comments here and on facebook. Thank you for interacting with us. As others have said, you'll be right in the thick of things at the next tournament.

Daz don't sweat it

Its easy to get down on other people for being emotional and basically seeing what they are thinking, but I am so glad I am never mic'd up! Most of us would make Daz look like a mute compared to us. I know I would! If he had not been emotional people would have said that he didn't care and didn't take it seriously. Catch 22 for him. The fact that he could here the commentators sucks. You are not playing up to your own expectations and getting down on yourself then hear the commentators adding to it? Makes for a rough match for anyone.

Very nice TAR match put on by Justin except for the 8 ball portion IMO. But justin I really hope you are embarrassed by the commentary over the last 10 games especially if darrin could hear them
Wishing bad rolls for darrin. Prime example of why pool is struggling ppl like Bob who is supposed to be neutral blasts darrin cuz he was showing his emotions.
Darrin it was a pleasure to watch you play an glad to see you aren't afraid to show your emotions. Hopefully we will never have to hear another person like Bob commentate on TAR again an if anything owes DA an apology for how he acted

Here are the stats from Pooltrax. Very interesting.

this thread is brutal. No one here seems to realize that dennis likely could not hear anything that was being said by Daz. He had a damn microphone on his cheek. As for tar this was one of the worst one's that I have seen. The commentators were completely out of line. There were technical difficulties all weekend, plus the damn window doesn't always show the bottom pockets. Jay is brutal and has nothing original to say. I like what he contributes to the community both those 2 are brutal together. You need someone a little more lively in there. Shit was like watching paint dry.

Jumping joe saying I can't play for money is stupid .. Yeah I lost a few games on tar .. But I won a hell of alot more than I've lost.. And won big money in the Philippines against top players which nobody else as achieved . Except yang. And play 50 k sets in last and won all of them but one.

Tar matches are not money matches they are challenge matches with prize money on the line .. Basically like playing a final of a tournament so obviously want to win big time ..

Tonight I opologize for my muttering and other nights just sometimes it's a frustrating games and I mutter alot anyway .. But to myself my opponent can't hear me .. I never shark any opponent ..

And I feel I got the rough end of the rolls for majority of the match that's the way I see the match. IMO

But at the end I only myself to blame which I said in my interview to Justin I dogged it simple as that .. Don't know why because usually when am on the hill I only need one chance either money game challenge game or big tournaments Etc.. But that's life shit happens where all human . We all dogged it sometimes I seem them all do it before. And we will do it again.

Obviously right now am sick to lose but that's life I will come back stronger and not make same mistake next time .

If I offended anyone with my muttering then I opologize .

Darren
Daz you have nothing to be sorry for. Yo gave us 3 full days of awesome pool and I thank you for that. No one knows what it's like to go through. Thanks again Daz.

Darren don't sweat the BS. It's impossible to please everyone. You are the caliber of player that you are largely due to the fact that you are tough on yourself. You came within one shot about 5 times from winning this thing. I personally think your adrenalin got to you and it showed most when you put the four ball in the side and then powered off the side rail and clipped the 10 into a hook. Then you came within a hair of making the kick in the side.

The one back cut into the corner to avoid the balls and side pocket you want back. Tough way to lose after a long hard match against a world class opponent. Dennis said it best when he thought he had lost the match. From there he felt little pressure and was on a free roll.

Chin up and off to DCC. You have come up a bunch of pegs in my books. Taking heat from a bunch of clowns you can give the 3bAll and rob is tough to fade.

No but seriously, I feel for daz. I was pulling for him.
The booth guys were super critical of the fact that he mumbled to himself
nonstop after every error. But that's exactly what makes me want to see him win.
He's human like the rest of us and he cares a lot about the outcome.

Sure he cries about the rolls and blames bad luck.
But as perfect and careful as he shoots, that's often correct.
At hill-hill he played a pretty decent safe and it happened to wire a ball
straight into the hole with automatic shape if dennis just makes a good hit.

Not that it's ALL luck, Dennis broke dry approximately 10 times in a row,
and darren still couldn't close out needing 1 rack to dennis' 5.

People on AZ claim they want to see players show some emotion but there
were lots of comments about his negativity, and praise for Dennis' calm.
It's pretty much all the booth guys talked about for the first 50 racks.
Then they spent 10 racks nakedly rooting for dennis
like they had bet the mortgage on him.

"COME ON BABY BOUNCE! NOOOOO!"

I enjoyed the match and I don't expect them to be neutral and boring,
but they could come up with the occasional bit of praise about darren
other than "ah jeez he hit that ball good".

I felt that the booth guys were super critical, period.

There's nothing wrong saying things like "he didn't want to do that" or "that was a mistake on his part" but it seemed that they really hammered on every mistake.

Well said and thanks for jumping in the TAR box.

I enjoyed watching you Darren, I can tell you REALLY wanted to win and I got no problem
with your sportsmanship. A little muttering... much ado about nothing. We all do it.

It's cool that you come visit us on AZ and can respond to the punters,
and don't just do "press releases" and otherwise ignore the fans.

Certainly makes it enjoyable to watch your matches, when you feel like
the player is a regular guy who just happens to shoot phenomenal.

Caption: Eddie, you're a born loser.

and THAT was the point Jay and Cotton were making. The “... these people are so lucky..” / “... why does this always happen..” “..I never get a role..” blah, blah are a serious of negative excuses and give you a reason why you are going to loose... and in the end all that internal negativity came forward .. with an EPIC choke!

Going into the match .. I liked DAZ... and I like the fighter image, working class struggle, the courage to move from one type of game to the next, move over seas to learn and move here to compete... all good things..

but IMO he revealed a really serious weakness last night

Jay and Cotton smelled it and pointed it out. They talked about how that negative stuff will effect you, get in YOUR head and how if you are playing a champion it gives them strength because you are showing weakness and THAT is exactly WHAT happened.

Another thing it's not easy when u can hear every word the commentators are saying.. But that's part of the deal and I accept that..

I appreciate everything that tar do and have done for the game it's just shame the industry doesn't support them and more viewers.

Darren

It must be annoying hearing those two in the booth, it shouldn't be part of the deal at all.
The guys commentating should be far enough away or soundproofed so they can't be heard. I feel bad for Darren, went on tilt a bit but he's playing one of the best money players in the world who makes very few mistakes. I'd still feel confident time and time again betting with Darren given all of his accomplishment and mental game.

2 sides to this...

I have followed all 3 days and was excited to see this matchup! I did not particularly root for one player as I like the game of both of them. If I had to, I might lean towards Darren since I am European...

I did at no point think, Darren's muttering was totally out of line or too offensive. I cud feel for him. Nevertheless, I felt for a world star in any sports the swearing and muttering was not acceptable. In pool though, it is unfortunately quite common... at the Mosconi Cup I realized again, why pool will never be prime time tv material. I have watched Snooker on TV as well, mostly on BBC. Although, the snooker players look sometimes like emotionless robots, the whole ambiance shows class and does the game justice.

The TAR38 shows a matchup, that would be in Tennis sth like Djokovic vs Nadal. I feel very sorry for pool that this world stars for our sport have to play in the relatively tiny TAR studio with no crowds on-site to follow the match!! I understand from Justin, that Vegas is a tough city for pool and that he gets very little support from the industry. Still, it is a shame in my eyes not to be able to draw a crowd for matches like this.

Nothing against TAR, Justin is doing a great job and I was able to follow some of the greatest pool I ever saw. But matchups like this shud not go down like this. If there was a larger crowd, I feel the players would also behave better in the long run.

Jay and cotton were fine by me as commentators. a little over the line in the end opposing darren's muttering... but since, I learned from Darren that he was hearing what they said, it is not ok from Bob to be so expressively biased.

Darren has definitely not lost due to rolls going only one way. he had his rolls too in an important stage of the 10-ball match. additionally, Denis cudnt make a ball on the break for a long time, which usually is the killer in any game. Darren needs to work on his ability to mentally fade rolls inequality and fade errors made by himself. If he had been able to shrug off the rolls and few "bad" decisions or execution, he wud have had enough changes to win the match anyway.

Anyway, if there is future matches with Darren, Dennis, Jay or Bob, I will watch it anyway. It is entertaining and I can learn a lot from the pros. So keep it up TAR!

my 2 cents
bicki

You played youe heart out Darren and it was great to see your amazing skill. Don't let anyone here get you down. You have won more money on pool than most people here will make in 10 years and you are leagues better. I am gonig to Derby as well and will tell you this in person. It was a pleasure to watch you and Dennis play the last three days. See you at Derby.

A lot of dumb in this thread. I'll just ignore that and state how cool I think it is that Darren came on here and said what he said. One of the best matches I've watched.

First of all I really like Darren and Dennis equally. I'm sorry if Jay and I both made comments on Darrens behavior during the match but it was hard not to. I never want to see players get bad rolls like Darren thought he did or didn't. They are both world champions. In my opinion darren mumbling for the last 2 hours hurt his game and I feel bad for him that he did that. As I said I really like Darren and definately don't wish him bad luck. The rolls were even in my opinion and when Dennis got a good roll or a bad roll he never said any thing. It just dissapointed me to hear Darren complain.
