DCC Experience

:smile:Just got back home after having a nice time at DCC.

The Bigfoot experience was different than what I expected. I expected outstanding shot making, but what I saw was incredible cue ball control. The table appeared to super fast, but the cue ball control was breathtaking. I guess when you expect one thing and you see something totally different, you take notice.

Secondly, it was great to see the new crop of youngsters playing. I didn't see Landon, but there were plenty of new young faces. One of note was a 17 year old that beat Earl Strickland in the banks. It wasn't that many years ago that I wrote for Inside Pool an article of the "Young Guns". Those "Young Guns" were Gabe, Corey, SVB, etc. I guess those guys are the "Middle Age Guns" now .

I saw a lot of great sportsmanship with a lot of matches. When you hear about pool dying and you see a couple of common folks playing a match and are having a good time and are being great sports too, it makes you understand pool is doing fine, maybe not for professionals, but us mere mortals still love and respect the game.

Finally, I really like seeing all my friends I have met over the years and I probably had at least 10 people and introduce themselves to me as an AZ member and recognized me from my picture. Great AZ folks.

If you are on the fence about going, let me say go. You will be glad that you did.:thumbup:

Sorry I missed you Saturday Ken. I spent a lot of time in Sureman's booth watching 4k-15K cues change hands. I guess I was drawn to that just like a moth to a light..lol

I am going again this Saturday. If you are not up there, we will try again next year!

Hey Ken it was great meeting you! Thanks for letting me hit a couple of balls with your Boti! That cue is pure magic.

Well said Ken, glad you enjoyed yourself and played a little pool also.

DCC is the best of all tournaments, no tournament comes close and that inludes the us open!

Sounds like a good trip. I don't know if it's the same guy you saw, but Tommy Tokoph from Albuquerque beat Earl in banks and he's around 24-25 or so, but looks younger, a fine young player.

No, I was told by my friend Brian Roberts that a friends son, who is 17 years old beat Earl and it was his first tournament.

I think I got that story right.

I believe Drake N beat Earl in the banks. Drake also beat Billy Thorpe in the banks. Billy said Drake was 16. Billy is only 18 or 19 and plays real sporty as well. It is good to see young talent coming into the sport

Today is Drake's 18th birthday. His present was attending the entire week at dcc. I roomed with him for the past few days. He is a great kid with lots of talent. He is headed in the right direction. Yesterday on the long walk to the venue from the hotel we bumped into Earl and he stopped and gave the kid some great compliments that made Drake smile from ear to ear.

Ken - good to meet you.

And as 1on1 said - Drake is a great kid with a father that obviously understands how to raise his son. I look for big(ger) things from him in the future.

Sounds like the kid plays great and was raised right. Also pretty cool of Earl to stop and compliment him.

OK, I must have gotten bad info...somebody told me Tommy beat Earl in Banks and I just assumed...lol, thanks.

Isn't Drake in Mark Wilson's Lindenwood University? Soon to be renamed to the Mosconi Cup Breeding Factory ;)

As I mentioned earlier, I think we are great fans and supporters of the sport. But sometimes we all get down with the lack of money, and events, actions of a very few.

But when I saw some great play by alot of young lions, it made me feel better about the future for US players.

I heard that Earl did come by later and watched Drake play his next match, and when Drake missed a fairly easy bank, Earl gave him a good natured, "You never missed one of those against me...." Again, I heard it was good natured and everyone got a good laugh at Earl's expense and made Drake feel good too.

Trip report

Thanks for your insight and the report on your DCC trip. I've got to go to the DCC one year. I keep saying I want to go, but something comes up every year and I haven't made it there yet.

Drake is indeed headed to Lindenwood. Very mature, polite and poised young man.

That sounds like the kind of person the US needs representing us instead of the time bomb so many people love to see go off and embarrass the team. I don't think a player should be called great if they can't control their emotions. There are so many great players who let their game do their talking and never have an ill word for anyone.
