Romanian player in town looking for action

I thought that was funny too.
He ask if I'll play them even like they are around top 300 in the world .

I would say if Wang Can is in the top 10 in China/Taiwan it is barely. I am not sure he is actually in the top 10 there TBH, I can think of 10 players I would likely take over him.

The best thing I am hearing about Shaw is that match where he played really good and shot the best anyone has ever seen him play, and still lost... I have watched him blow tons of matches. He has loads of ability but he cannot hold it together like the elite players who actually win the top end events. Sorry to say but Shaw is not of the same level as SVB or Darren or Niels or, Ko or Chang or Orcullo or Thorsten or Biado, or... He is simply not that level. If you think barely in the top 50 is elite then whatever. But in most single competition sports being in the top 50 does not cut it and those guys rarely win the events.

In a world class event there are usually 15-20 guys in the event who are the clear favorites in the total of 128 and the winner is likely coming from that group of players. Shaw is not in that group, he is in the next group of talented darkhorses who if they won the event with the best in the world in attendance would be something of a surprise. That is the simply reality whether you choose to accept it or not.

Shaw has talent, but he simply does not have the professional composure the elite pros in the world have. The elite guys ARE winning events, SVB just won his 3rd US Open in a row, that is elite. Darren Appleton has won multiple world championships, that is elite. Niels is the world 9-ball champion, that is elite. Orcullo is elite, Ko (both of them) are elite, Chang (both Yu Lun and Jung Lin) are elite. Shaw is not at that level of those guys.

He's from Canada son.... Pretty sure he's using some sort of metric system to count.

Are you saying there are only 10 euros that are better players than you?

Agreed.

Ranking players is difficult. There are unknown monsters everywhere, and the difference between non elite pros is minimal at best. Truth is, other than the top few, there's nothing to choose between several hundred players.

No, I think he's saying there are 10 he might not play for 10K if they showed up tomorrow on his doorstep. The rest can probably get a match (not that they're known for gambling).

Let's not forget, it wasn't too long ago that Chris humbled Darren Appleton gambling.

300 is not farfetch
WPA rankings already has about 300+ players http://www.wpa-pool.com/web/rankings And these are only players who get ranking points and make effort to play in the major tourneys. There are tonne of known players who are not listed in the list. Then there are also tonnes of unknown players ..players with names you never heard of who pop up . Look at recent W9B qualifiers ..128 qualifiers many of whom never heard of
Look at recent MP Manny Pacquiao Cup in Philippines- a host of pinoy monsters never heard of.
And that is not counting bunch of players from less known countries like East Europe , Middle East, South America- sure most of those may not be super elite but just take the national champions from each country and you have another few dozen

:D

Very true ..................

Ranking equals no thanking and no banking. IOW, doesn't mean squat. Show me the money.

WOW mind boggling.

Chris has already stated there are maybe 100 people he may not be able to win against, but Celtic and Spartan keep saying at least 300.

I suggest Celtic or Spartan grab one of these great unknowns pump them up with cash then send them off for Columbus to bust Chris.

I also suggest they may want to first make a stop around the St. Louis area for some easy pickens. After all you never know how much Chris will be willing to lose, best come loaded.

Can we get a list of the 10 Europeans who are barred from an even 10-ball match? Say race to 21?

I would like to know who is left over on the "I will play" list. I am going to DCC this year more then likely and maybe we can set something up.

Glad you will be there
I'll start my list with spotting you the last 5

I am ok playing you if we can figure out a fair spot to make it be gambling for both of us.

You are a top 100 player in the world, I am probably close to about the top 1,000,000 mark at this point.

If you are cool playing 8-ball instead of rotation pool that would be good. As a terrible amateur former league player and all those fancy shmancy pro rotation games just confuse my simple and un-evolved pool playing mind.

I am OK if we split the difference and play 8-ball on a 9-foot, or the 10-foot if they have it there this year.

My name is Shane Lyons.

It is fairly pitiful I know, I expect I would need a huge spot from someone who has committed their life to the sport of pool.

What do you think is fair for someone of your talents in 8-ball as far as a spot goes against such a clear rank amateur such as myself?

I would actually seriously be interested in a fair match with you, win or lose I think it could be a fun experience. We just have to figure out what line would make it gambling.

You're old and cool.

good luck Celtic

part of the action downfall imo over the past 15-20 years is the complete lack of spots by the so called "action" players

they won't give it up and expect rank amateurs to play em as even as possible, yes it goes both ways for sure, but at the moment the fault lies with the better players who gamble
