Question for the Balabushka experts

I was just reading on Wikipedia that George made between 1000 and 1200 cues in his career. My question is are they all accounted for?

You kinda answered your own question. If the amount is between 1,000-1,200 clearly not otherwise they would have a definite number not an estimate.

I doubt there is even a full list of all the known Balabushka cues that people have in one place. I think there were a few posts like this a while ago also.

There are probably closer to 2000 Balabuska out there.

Probably less than a third of those were ever touched by George. ;)

And the only sure way to tell it to have them x-rayed .
I don't know if anyone else was crazy enough to use his A-joint "screw".

That's because he bought them at the hardware store at the end of his block next to the barbershop. A hanger bolt.

Thjat bolt broke on my friend Silias Carter while playing many moons ago--snapped right in midstroke,,he looked down and was only holding the butt of the cue..Would have loved to have seen the expression on his face,,with all that going on.

Bill, did you have to give that away?
Now, the fake bushka makers might use it . :D

Verl Horn made cues with the same screw. Not sure if he did it all the time. I bought one on a flyer one time for $800 even had it x-rayed and it looked just like a Bushka but it was off on a few other dimensions, It's reported that there are more high quality fake Bushka's than real ones.

Balabushka

My experience has been that the rumors of fake Bushkas is way more prevalent than the fake cues are.

In other words - I don't think there are 'that' many floating around. I will admit Verl Horn made some that were very difficult to ID.

To make a close Balabushka copy would require a good deal of set up work on butt and shaft taper bars, etc. My understanding is there are a greater number of fakes made from the Titlist cues. I would assume there are fakes that were so well made that they have been authenticated as genuine. Martin

i agree with you all

Same here. As the saying goes anything worth it's weight is worth copying. Sucks but that's the world. I've always been curious as to how to authenticate a Balabushka. Just looking at a traditional one as opposed to a Szamboti or Tascarella is hard to decipher to the naked eye. To me anyway. I'm not an expert by any means. When you xray cues what exactly are you looking for? Besides measurements what are the tell tale signs?
