Ian Anderson asked the same question as I did on here. Is the 10k added only for a full field of 64 @ $520 a pop? Now I know why I got no answer...Ian didn't either. Johnnyt

I wish I was asking the questions. I'd have a few more inquiries to add, aside from Charlie Williams' Dragon Productions.

I can see the WPA not awarding points, but to penalize the players who play is crazy. The WPA hasn't done a thing for pool... all they seem to do is sanction events that bounce checks and then run and hide. The WPA is worthless and an impotent organization. They've done a super job of doing nothing for our sport.

If I were the women, I'd play. I'm not a CW fan, but I'm even less of a WPA fan.

The WPA can count their lucky stars that Trudeau failed because if he didn't, the WPA wouldn't exist anymore. They'd all be getting high playing spades in their parents' basements.

Good idea, let's put em in a Jam :grin-square:

It sounds as though Dragon Promotions wants to become the sanctioning body for "world" tournaments. It would appear that they are attempting to take that distinction by force. But sounds and appearances only lead to speculation (which is what I am doing here). But speculation is not to be unexpected since Mike Howerton admitted (at least twice) in his interview with the WPA that AZBilliards has not been running the press releases sent to them by Dragon Promotions, and since Jerry Forsyth has authored and published what appears to be a pro-WPA article on AZB. So my question is, will Dragon Promotions be given an opportunity by ABR and AZB to tell their side of the story?

Roger, I believe that Mike also interviewed Dragon on this. I am not privy to any other info on this or when it will be aired. At a guess I would say it will be on Thursday.

Is there some reason Dragon can't come on and tell their side of the story in a post? They like to spam the board with numerous other repetitive posts every tournament.

You will indeed get to hear from Dragon Promotions tomorrow.

Not unlike Ian, I would take no pleasure in trying to stop an event or penalize players but I do agree that Dragon has stepped over the line, more than once.

My Opinion

After listening to Ian it is apparent that he gave DP a viable out. Rename the tournament and put out a press release that it has nothing to do with the former or any other World 10 Ball Tournament...case closed. Now this was Ian's opinion and not that necessarily the WPA Boards.

Having said that I feel the tournament would not have or will not be a success as the $520 entry fee is way to much for a $10K added event. As Ian said with the cost of travel, hotel and food it just isn't worth it to most players. Have to see what DP says on ABR tomorrow night.

I applaud the WPA's actions. But now, Ian Anderson should get out there and sell 14.1 to the Continents. I know it's hard and that it's not popular in many countries, but neither was 10-ball 5 years ago, but if anyone can sell it, he can.

We need a WPA sanctioned 14.1 World Championship with WPA ranking points and fair prize money.

The WPA has sanctioned the DP 14.1 in the past

Correct. those were probably the years the event was sanctioned. According to that list, there hasn't been a sanctioned d 14.1 world championship in the past 4 years.

I just wanted to make it clear that the WPA did recognize the DP World 14.1 Championship in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010 and recognizes the winners those years as world champions. They should make accommodations when the added money/sponsorship falls short to still recognize the event. Especially 14.1 which is a dying discipline which needs a Worlds Tournament.

Just my Opinion (I am only talking about 14.1 not the rotation games)
