Top 57 Players on Earth

Very Difficult

And even further to go in order to be considered in Balukas' category.

It is very difficult in any sport to compare past and present champions. I loved to watch Jean play back in the 70's and she was a cut above all the other women players. However, she played most of her tournaments on the East Coast with very little foreign competition.

Siming plays globally with a far stronger field. Shit I saw her play about 2 years ago against Karen Corr at Triple 9's in Elkridge, MD on the JPNEWT tour. Karen barbecued her...but that outcome gets reversed in Beijing. Wonder how Jean would do traveling to BumF*#K China!

Just saying

Wedge!

It's a debate that will never be answered, just like Jordan or Lebron, but my opinion is that Jean is the best female player who has ever played. She regularly competed against the men, and won her fair share of those matches. I don't care where they played, I think Jean would BBQ Chen if they were both in their prime.

Then again, who knows. Maybe Chen isn't even in her prime yet.

Perhaps if we are both good boys we will get to see them match up in heaven! See you then but I doubt if we will be allowed a wager!

You must not play a lot of pool.
Or you would understand she can win a short set
But not if they played a long match .

To be fair Ron doesn't play pool as he is busy trying to meet post count quota each day regardless of what the topic is about....even if he has no clue he still has to make a post about it!

Hypothetically, would you play her even, one single set only, to 9 or 11, for 5K? Of course, the longer the set the bigger the favorite the better player is.

In this particular case, I don't think you'd find anyone, except Rhea, to bet against you even in a race to 9. I know the Fargorate puts her above you, and I have been a big proponent of it. But I do think the women vs men is not flushed out very well in the Fargorate system, just because very few women play in men's events, so its not quite right yet for this comparison.

Buddy, no one outside of america plays or cares about 3 day pool snooze-fests.

You lot need to get a grip. It is simply beyond comprehension why you take such pride in tedious endurance races. Play a normal game like normal people and go home, winner or loser.

Rhea and me ;-)

I don't necessarily disagree with this. And we are anxious to get in more data that couples the men to the women. My hunch, though, is there is already sufficient coupling.

I suspect Chris would not like it in a long set against Ms. Chen.

Just curious, but is there any american pro level player you don't crawl to?

ummmm, yeah, I'd venture to say that 80% of the American pros have been called out by me at one time or another for dumping, or acting like clowns, or skipping out on a Calcutta, etc., etc...

I do know most of them because I've hung out with most of them or played golf with them at one time or another though.

Any more questions?

I actually think vetty's much loved variance works against top women's players, not for them. Women will find playing men difficult because they are in such a minority, but if they play them more often and in a more mixed field, that will balance out over time.

Yeah. Why are you obsessed with variance?

It should most definately use a rolling average.

3 years sounds reasonable to give a large sample and accurate assessment of changing player dynamics.

Nice troll thread BTW.

'Twas another copy/ paste, with no credit to the property's owner.

Our apologies to the alphabet. We really hav no control over what others do to you.

Rhea, why did you pick 57 players from the list, and not all 100? We might as well discuss that, as I think we've discussed every other option in this thread:)

Im normally a fan of your posts but im thinking this time you were dying to say the above and just slid it in here where it really didn't quite fit.

It's already been proven here in these forums that some 'naysayers' had no clue how Fargo works. Im guessing that is very true still.

Some people simply get tired of the same spiel.

In this case, there is a very specific template for certain people's responses.

It's not that hard to figure out.

because I play a lot of poker and I'd actually love for some of you to actually understand the concept and see why it's statistically impossible for the world 9-ball to identify the best player year in and year out. Short races and alternate break has extremely high variance and any one of 50+ players can win in that format. Make it races to 21 and winner breaks and that number goes down significantly. In fact, I'd venture to say that only a handful of players could win if it were changed to that format.

That's not to say that short races and alternate break aren't good for viewing. I actually do enjoy them and they are good for tv, but it doesn't identify who the best player is, only who shot somewhat better in that one race, got the most rolls, got the most shots after the break, etc...

Because Siming Chen is currently in 57th position in the world, and I thought it would be a good discussion point. She is a great player and extremely underestimated it seems. I just wish she would get the credit she deserves. She's only 21 and still can even get better.

He wouldn't be the only one this list of American men that could'nt hang with her in a long set is much smaller than some may think ,, and I believe in games like full rack rotation that list shrinks even smaller

lmao, you can't possibly think that she could really beat Chris in a longer gambling race? A buddy of mine that no longer even plays and just sits around and drinks would beat her in a gambling match. You guys really have no clue as to the pecking order when it comes to actually playing a long set where the better player will get the cheese.
