Gold Crown IV Cushions/Replacements

not looking to stir anything up but, actually, the Diamond at JA's room in Marietta is their "pro" table, number one when you walk in the door and not for general public's use.

best,
brian kc

That's quite alright.
His rant at the 14.1 told the truth of the matter.
Everyone knows it.

Just another nobody who doesn't like the way diamonds play. I haven't played on a IV or V and don't care if i ever do. Gimme an older GC and I'm a happy guy!
Not sure how the pockets are as i only drive balls into the rails ;)

Could be cause thats what most tournaments are played on, not what they PREFER.

Doesn't is say something when you're the only one doing the complaining, grow up!!

Ironic that this statement comes from the most belligerent poster of all time when it comes to getting bent out of shape because of any criticism of Diamond.
No one on this forum goes off the deep end like you about Diamond.
No one.

We all know you have a vested interest in Diamond.
That's why regardless of what you say, no one cares.

You are Diamonds #1 groupie.
Everyone knows that.

Hard Times here has twice tried having a Diamond table among the many Gold Crowns.
People did not gamble on it.
All of the GC's in the tournament section have tighter pockets than Diamond.
I think the best playing Diamond does not play as well as the best playing Gold Crown.
And the GC's tear shaped rails are well loved by players.
It's just too bad Brunswick does not support the pro events anymore.
But, one infamous promoter did stiff them ( allegedly ).

Mean while, all you do is run your lips because that's all you're good for.

Well, now, I didn't mean to get some people fired up over one simple question. All I wanted to know was what was the best thing to do for my Gold Crown IV. I remember playing on the Gold Crown IVs over in Peoria at the WPBA women's tournament years ago and they seemed to play a lot better than the GC IV that I have.

And my pockets are too big, around 5" or so and that's too big. When I played on Nick Varner's Gold Crown V I had a hard time making some shots on his table.

So, folks, can we get back to the intended discussion and not trash and bash each other anymore? Unfortunately, over the years, this is usually what happens on this forum. And one of the reasons I'm not here much anymore.

Without having a clue???
Sorry.
The entire forum is 1000% sure that you are a shill for Diamond Billiards products.
There is no question about that.
That is an absolute certainty.

Glen you do the same thing every thread. Real players give real feedback that they don't like Diamond rails (or other parts of the table). You take it personally and then go in attack mode.

We all know pool players will complain about free water. But to simply ignore years and years and years of complaints about the way the balls come off the cushions... Well, think about that a minute. Are the complaints made up? Or are they legit?

We all want Diamond to succeed. They are the only table that supports the game. But they took a design that was tried and trued for 100 years and changed it. Yes, they definitely improved some areas. But at the same time they made other areas much worse.

That's why this is always such a heated debate. Players actually care about the sport and how the tables play.

Players want the ball to come off the rail a certain way. Not like a heated carom table where it flies off. That's what a diamond pool table plays like. Hell, maybe it's even faster off the rail than a heated carom table.

If not for those players, there wouldn't be a Blue Label.
i"m hoping for Diamond to ditch that 141* corners and get it down to 139*.

Lol.
So they stopped the balls from launching into orbit and nailing people in the face with the Red Label, and now it just plays like a pinball machine with the Blue Label.

Here are things as I understand them:

Regardless of whether or not you like RKC I think you can not argue the fact he puts out the finest playing Gold Crowns.

I believe Diamond hired Glen to correct their rails due to his reputation with GCs

I have never heard anyone say they want their table to play like a GC but many say that they want their table to play like a Diamond, I guess that means that not everyone hates Diamond as some of you claim.

I have no idea what Superstar is saying when he speaks of excessive shelf depth on Diamonds unless he is comparing them to Valleys, then he has a valid point. (but who compares a table to a Valley anyway?) The shelves on my GCII were deeper than Diamonds until I had my pockets reduced to 4 1/2", now they are the same.

Blue Label Diamonds play just fine, it is only the Red Label tables that play "springy", it seems to me that Diamond fixed their rail problem, unless once again we are comparing them to Valley's with backed cloth.

Anytime you have a product made in a production environment quality can always be improved upon by an experienced and knowledgeable craftsman whether its an automotive body and paint job, an engine, kitchen cabinets, a pool cue, or even a pool table. Tolerances are generally much greater in a production facility vs custom work.

I love my modified Gold Crown II, I would not trade it for a Diamond or an unmodified later model Gold Crown unless it was a GCV but because I like the way they look, not because of the way they play, that I know I can have fixed.

FWIW Glen did not do the work on my table so I do not owe him anything nor am I in his debt in some way causing me to post these comments.

Well, I'm moving to Waco, TX shortly, but when I do, I think I'm going back to working on Diamonds exclusively.....I don't need all this bullshit from people that don't know what they're talking about, so problem solved....I'll leave fixing up GC'S to you experts.

I talked to Mark just a little bit ago, he's not interested in fixing up GC rails anymore, and I just decided I'm done as well....all you experts need to just do the work yourselves and stop relying on us perfectionist to do the work for you.

The shelves on GC2 were deeper than Diamond's??? How is that? The slates on D's are deeper.
All those knockoffs in China all wish they play as good as GC's.
Before them, Gandy , Murray and AMF made tables to try to emulate GC's.

Well, it wouldn't need rework if it was done right in the first place.
I can understand why Mark has enough work in Anniversaries and Centennials alone.

Mark's not too crazy about Diamond's playability himself.
Hates them with a passion.
