Here are things as I understand them:
Regardless of whether or not you like RKC I think you can not argue the fact he puts out the finest playing Gold Crowns.
I believe Diamond hired Glen to correct their rails due to his reputation with GCs
I have never heard anyone say they want their table to play like a GC but many say that they want their table to play like a Diamond, I guess that means that not everyone hates Diamond as some of you claim.
I have no idea what Superstar is saying when he speaks of excessive shelf depth on Diamonds unless he is comparing them to Valleys, then he has a valid point. (but who compares a table to a Valley anyway?) The shelves on my GCII were deeper than Diamonds until I had my pockets reduced to 4 1/2", now they are the same.
Blue Label Diamonds play just fine, it is only the Red Label tables that play "springy", it seems to me that Diamond fixed their rail problem, unless once again we are comparing them to Valley's with backed cloth.
Anytime you have a product made in a production environment quality can always be improved upon by an experienced and knowledgeable craftsman whether its an automotive body and paint job, an engine, kitchen cabinets, a pool cue, or even a pool table. Tolerances are generally much greater in a production facility vs custom work. The
I love my modified Gold Crown II, I would not trade it for a Diamond or an unmodified later model Gold Crown unless it was a GCV but because I like the way they look, not because of the way they play, that I know I can have fixed.
FWIW Glen did not do the work on my table so I do not owe him anything nor am I in his debt in some way causing me to post these comments.
