This took place at the 2000 us open straight pool championship held at rosemont ballroom. I was there. That is where I met up with Freddie Agnir, Lou f. Jumbo. Gideon and someone I'm forgetting.
The tables where real soft, big pockets and new balls and cloth. The first roun I believe there were 6 100 ball runs. This was a 125 match. They were raining balls. The next day Tony Robles had the opportunity to tie the highest run ever. He was in a 150 point match and was minus 2, he ran 148 - made the break ball and missed the next shot. He still won. His opponent was Johnny archer.
Interestingly, I was sitting next to Kevin Trudeau during that match!
Also interesting is that there was a practice table in the lobby area, where some vendors were set up. I definetly remember George Michaels the clothing guy. So, on that lobby table, Sigel ran a 220 something earlier that day ( could have been the previous day) - so anyone that think he could not play does not know pool. Definely one of the top players of all time. His finals record was something like 90% winner. He was to pool like Tiger woods was to golf. You could almost bet him against the field.
Arguably the best straight pool player sine the Mosconi era.
