Damn, I never saw this clip before...

Not sure how relevant this is to the conversation. But.........

In an interview,( forgot where and when) Efren was asked what players he likes to play against. I was very surprised to hear him say Mike Sigel's name first.

Efren has said a few times that Sigel is the toughest player he ever faced.

Siegel was almost unarguably the best player around, in his prime.

He also is an ahole, but that cant be totally unexpectex, given his type a+ personality.

He also scammed the scammer, with that apt payday. Oh, to read the transcrilts of his/ trudeau's early discussions...

I think the whole IPT thing probably has more to do with the general dislike of Sigel than anything else.

Maybe you want to change your avatar. Just kidding, sure you're happy with it.

No more than three years ago, Sigel ran 180 (unfinished run) on Mike Davis, before Mike got tired and had to leave Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD. It was years after most of his tournament play. I watched it.

Yes, Sigel is a bit hard to take at times.

Yes, he is still a great player.

I put Sigel, Luther Lassiter, and Harold Worst at the best all round.

All the best,
WW

From that clip, I can't tell if that's Danny Harriman or John Schmidt that he's playing, which is a little ironic considering their history.

Sigel vs schmidt

This took place at the 2000 us open straight pool championship held at rosemont ballroom. I was there. That is where I met up with Freddie Agnir, Lou f. Jumbo. Gideon and someone I'm forgetting.

The tables where real soft, big pockets and new balls and cloth. The first roun I believe there were 6 100 ball runs. This was a 125 match. They were raining balls. The next day Tony Robles had the opportunity to tie the highest run ever. He was in a 150 point match and was minus 2, he ran 148 - made the break ball and missed the next shot. He still won. His opponent was Johnny archer.

Interestingly, I was sitting next to Kevin Trudeau during that match!
Also interesting is that there was a practice table in the lobby area, where some vendors were set up. I definetly remember George Michaels the clothing guy. So, on that lobby table, Sigel ran a 220 something earlier that day ( could have been the previous day) - so anyone that think he could not play does not know pool. Definely one of the top players of all time. His finals record was something like 90% winner. He was to pool like Tiger woods was to golf. You could almost bet him against the field.

Arguably the best straight pool player sine the Mosconi era.

The announcers said (at the end of the clip) that the score was Sigel-132 Schmidt-128. Must have been a 150 match. Always enjoy your posts, Mark. Looking forward to checking out your new room someday.

In that era no doubt sigel best at 14.1 all around my vote nick varner!

It's the all-around prowess of guys like Reyes, Sigel, and Varner that make me rank them ahead of guys like Strickland and Hall on the all-time greats list.

Was it a Mike Sigel cue? A lot of heavy metal guys, like Yngwie Malmsteen, smash their guitar to bits, and it looks like their #1 guitar. Then the roadie hands hem the REAL #! and he finishes the song.

Maybe this was just some weird form of gamesmanship?

He worked with Kevin before Kevin went to the slammer the first time (for credit card fraud). They were at a BCA Trade Show selling MegaMemory Systems(?) -- a pyramid scheme -- and I thought to myself what hard times the former best US player had fallen on to be working such deals. I don't think Kevin begrudged Mike whatever he got. Mike was doing private appearances for Kevin long after the IPT fell apart.

To me, the lost chance of Sigel playing Allison, like Bobby Riggs playing Billie Jean King....was a HUGE miscue.

Allison was at the top of her game and had a chance in one race to ''beat Mike''. I'm sure he didn't want any of that, he wanted the $250K. Rumor mill said the WPBA board, wouldn't let Allie play. Hummmmmmmmmmm :scratchhead:

Two thoughts come to mind here:
1.) Every time I see that video I have one thought ... "Wait Mike - trade me cues first"
2.) Arrogant? Sometimes there is a fine line between self-confidence and arrogance. Personally when it comes to Mike - I'd guess the first.

OK - I'm a pretty tolerant person,
I tend to like most of the folks. Little idiosyncrasies don't bother me - to me it's what makes a person a unique individual. (granted; breaking sticks might be outside the standard) The only one who seems to be a downer is "Earl the Pearl" He just always seems to be so unhappy.
