from WPS FB page. I hammered 'em pretty good about the stream and they got all pissy and banned me from further comments. Hey, i call 'em like i see 'em and so far the stream(free or not) has had ,at least on my end, way too many problems. I've seen better streams done by an 8yr old with a smart phone. I'm devastated. No,really i am. I hope i can get thru the rest of my day.

Id suggest a song to help:
Wine is fine but whiskey's quicker
Suicide is slow with liquor
Take a bottle and drown your sorrows
Then it floods away tomorrows
Away tomorrows

Thanks brother. Feel better already. Thanks for reaching out.

what stream. I get nothing, but it was worth every penny I paid. What do they do things like this? Charge and provide a stream or don't offer something that they cannot give us.
Who is to blame for this? I don't want to just bash anyone jus because their name is associated with the tournament.

Hey Now........

Being banned for expressing your opinion, unless you were using vulgarities, basically says you were
dead on with your comments that hit a nerve and there was no rebuttal offered. Why? You told the truth.

High Rock Productions seems to be a new venture and I am going to give them a pass on it for this event as they work out the kinks. It cost me nothing anyway. I like what Darren is trying to do with the free model and I think the event I did with Frost/Orcollo might have shown that big events can be done without doing PPV. Lets get the viewer numbers up and sponsors on board.

I considered doing Facebook for events but found that not everyone uses Facebook and many work places block it too. I chose to offer two ways to view via Ustream and YouTube which has went well. I did do the pre-match Q&A on Facebook for the interaction and promptly got the recorded videos uploaded to YouTube so those without Facebook accounts could watch. Facebook only allows you to stream to them and not multiple sources unless you know the workaround. Streaming to as many places as possible is the way to go but also takes more bandwidth and technical know how.

Any kind of long duration live feed will have issues from time to time. I streamed over 20 days last month, there were little issues here and there that got resolved. Sometimes its on my end, sometimes the internet, or sometimes its a viewer issue. If you are the only one in the chat complaining and everyone else is good you have to realize the issue is you.

I applaud Darren for putting on this event with lots of moving parts so stuff goes wrong. I don't know the reason why he went away from Upstate Al because Al does good work and is seasoned but maybe High Rock will get it figured out and work out the kinks. Big key is in the downtime is to run a graphic that tells the next match time on the screen and just run the stream without stopping it if possible. If I see on the screen next match at 630pm EST or a countdown clock until next match then I will come back then to watch. I appreciate the FREE stream, hope it continues to improve.

I highly suspect that the internet speed/connection is to blame, on both ends, and possibly in the middle too.
If the numbers that are being thrown around are real, 750,000 people viewing will do that.

I do agree with you Fast Lenny. However, I cannot get over the fact that the first tourney in January was great stuff for me. nice WPS website, Cuescore providing best brackets graphics ever, nice matches and so forth. And then the 2nd tourney comes up April 5 and no ads at all beforehand. I regularly get e-mails of tourneys running which are free. But with the WPS nothing! No E-Mail, no invitation on Facebook and not even a top story on AZ!!!

If I had setup a tourney series and change the whole thing shortly before, I would make sure to announce that properly, give good reasons for it and in this case, obviously offer the people who put their trust in them a refund. But there is no information at all! I have not come across an explanation for this development up to now and it seems not many care at all.

@garzcar:
Funny you should mention that... Shortly, after first accessing WPSs FB page, after having found the right place eventually, I wrote a comment regarding the fact that it was a PPV event the first time and now it is free on FB and asked what was going on. I never found this comment again. Since I am not a very experienced FB user, I figured it was my fault. But now that you mention it, makes it seem like a deliberate approach of deleting bad press.

This kind of customer service and business conduct lacks of integrity and respect. I am truly disappointed. Once more...

Whenever someone gets banned I figure they are spending too much time on the internet and not enough time at a pool table.

Weird, I see two stories about the WPS in just the last week.
Plus the press release from Matchroom with all the dates of the added WPS events.
And its been aaaaalllllllll over facebook for weeks.

Yes, they're not just amateurs but really bad amateurs.
The excuse "this is free so what do you expect" is a bad one.
Either do it right or don't do it at all.
Who would pay for this junk anyway?

Well, typical american opinion. I AM THE CUSTOMER I AM RIGHT, I HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HAPPY 110%.

You should nicely talk to them directly, be polite, ask for improvements or if not possible at all some kind of compensation (get the next match half a price or somesuch).
If you would hammer on in a public forum I'd ban you in a heartbeat for foul language, without remorse.

With the Internet it's not only their fault or problem, you know? YOUR provider can also do all kinds of shenanigans.

Stop being one-sided and always blaming people.
TALK and resolve your issues actively.

Cheers,
M

Typical German egotistical reply.

Is Fast Lenny the guy that put on the DO-SF 1p event?

That stream was flawless.

Someone needs to give Darren and the WPS guys Lenny's number. Serious.

I think there was some bugs with the first day coverage, but I really enjoyed all of the coverage last night. The matches were really good, and the shootouts were exciting. As hardcore pool viewers I don't think we have a problem with ppv coverage, but even though it's giving us what we want it's reaching a very limited audience. Streaming through facebook, and especially since Darren got a partner in Unilad (a facebook page with hundreds of thousands of followers), really brings the tournament to a much wider and much more diverse audience which is good overall but maybe not ideal for hardcore pool fans.

I had a chance to watch the shootout between Melling and Orcollo and wow that was pretty cool and exciting. If they are getting those types of numbers then the possibility of (significant) outside sponsorship is a real possibility. Sponsors want a return on their investment and drawing 3/4 of a million viewers is a step in that direction. Hopefully, the technology for streaming will continue to improve with that amount of traffic.

You know I am confused about WPS sudden death rule, they were tied after what five rounds ? From what I understand sudden death means next point wins, why was DO allowed to shoot after Melling made his shot in sudden death ? Since DO was able to have a turn don't that take sudden death off the table ? Then it got tied up again.
