The International 9-Ball Open

How come?

:scratchhead::idea2::joyful:
I guess it depends on your point of view, but as an American, having 3 Americans and only 2 Europeans in the final 8 (assuming Orcollo can finish off Kaci) is not bad. A possible sign of hope for the upcoming Mosconi Cup!

Not encouraging yet for me. A year ago, Americans in the Chesapeake event failed to medal, with Shaw gold, Kaci silver and Sanchez Ruiz bronze. On home soil, I considered that to be pretty bad.

If we don't medal again this year in Chesapeake, it will be discouraging. Perhaps we will medal, though, and one of our guys might even take home the gold. Time will tell.

Dennis vs Shane next.
Shane has Dennis's number at the USO.
Gonna be tough for Dennis to win.

good to see some negative thoughts posted here SJM.......as we all know , it is impossible to disappoint a pessimist. Hope things go well for you though out the next week or so...that should drive you crazy.....

I don't know what it means for MC success, but I am proud of how the Americans have performed, even if they don't win another match. To have the number of players getting to the later rounds is exciting.

Honestly, they way many talk about how dominating the Pinoys, Europeans, and Asians are, having any American other than SVB make it past round 2 is awesome.

But it does make a counter-argument to the pervasive idea that the Americans (other than SVB) are so far behind every other company. I think America has a very talented and worthy group of young guns. Throw old timers like Cory and SVB into the mix and we have a strong contingent in any tournament.

The real problem with Danny is that his broadcasts are just boring. He has stories, let's hear them.

Great to see the use of a shot clock here as it makes matches much more watchable.

You confuse negativity with objectivity. I've offered my opinion and I've given my own point of view. I've not, by the way, made any predictions regarding how the three Americans left will fare, nor have I knocked the play of anyone American or other.

It isn't negative to say that I'm not yet encouraged, it's objective. You need not subscribe to my opinion, for you are entitled to see things your way.

... but don't define negativity relative to your own sense of things. It's your right to be encouraged by what you've seen. I may be encouraged yet, for this tournament is hardly over, but I'm reserving judgement.

Well played, Skyler. Nice win over Bergman. Next opponent still to be determined.

Update: Skyler will play Estonian Dennis Grabe in his next match. No idea whether it's a stream table match.

Two dominant performances by Skyler and Ko. Some real good pool still to come. I love watching how players perform under pressure. That's what separates the champions from the rest of the pack. Ko has matured into a championship level player. Whether he can maintain that form for two more matches remains to be seen.

Yeah, always awesome to see who steps it up on game day.

OK, Jay, you've convinced me. He's not Baby Ko any more. Ko Ping Chung will play for the hot seat!

I don't think the Taiwanese govt sponsors pool players. I think that might be more of a fantasy we Americans have. That is the whole reason Wu changed from ROC to PROC, so he could have sponsorship.

Taiwan ROC is bleeding money. All of their manufacturing industry moved to mainland China. Unemployment is high. They don't have the excess cash to sponsor sports, let alone billiards.

It's always been that way-"It's taught in schools": Well yeah, it was an option in some Phys Ed Classes.

PS-IIRC First Wu changed citizenship/residence to Singapore to avoid the Taiwan Draft-Then he didnt like something there and switched to 'China Proper'
